Pace I agree is deceptive, football is all about the first 5 yards and I don't necessarily think he's got that.

Agree, when I played I had deceptive pace. I looked a lot faster than I actually was!

Joking aside it has been said he is the quickest over a timed distance. We lack players with real explosive speed. Take their goal today their player went away from ours after the charge down. We do not possess a player with pace like that. Yeboah may be the only one in the future.

  2. Problem is if one of your players is sin binned for say 10/15 mins it's simple to set your formation up to be negative and contain the opponents. How many times have 10 men held out.

It's not like rugby, which presumably the rule is being copied from, where it's basically man against man and you have one "extra" player who has no one marking them. I think in rugby it's been proved that if a team has a player sin binned for 10 minutes that usually allows the opposing team to score 7/9 points.

I suspect most over 40 on here have been close enough To drink, drugs, gambling and other addictions one way or another!

Not sure what some of the above has to do with football at this point.

Not sure what the above age group was supposed to have been exposed to. Only drink was a temptation in my formative years. Pub opening times 5.30 - 10.30. pm. May have got 11.0. pm in the dance halls on a Saturday. Betting was on course except a few illegal bookies houses dotted around and drugs was stuff those Rag students whiffed on occasionally.

Well I never! My mother always went to the Co-op on Castle Street which looked very lonely as only four buildings left after Uncle Adolf's bombers had visited. Where I had my first football boots and every scrap of clothing.

I still use her Co-op membership number as one of my codes for use in a world where we all need endless pin numbers etc.

My memory of Castle St was mainly of bombed buildings with just a few left standing. One was the cinema, think it may have been named the Regent that mainly showed cartoons and Pathe News as well as a film.

With Christmas due shortly it reminds me of going to the Co-op to see Father Christmas. First a ride on the train. Well sat in a mocked up carriage with the scenery going around to simulate a train journey. Then see Father Christmas for our present. Boy did we look forward to these trips. At bit different to the over hyped, money grabbing, commercialised, maximum profit generating season we have to endure these days. Oh for the old days.

Fairfax House.  That’s where my Nan use to go to spend her Green Shield stamps.

Prior to Fairfax House Mum used to drag us all to the Co-ops on Castle St. First to collect her accumulated dividend, then spend the vouchers in the Co-op stores. I can still remember Mum's and Grandad's dividend numbers   **1** and **2**( not going to divulge them on here).

    One for the oldies.

I never have had a BMW & never plan too... but if I ever did, I'd have to get the badge ceramically changed to at least Red & White (I've seen a few other people do something along the lines of that)

However - my first aim is to never be enough of an ignorant tosser to justify being behind the wheel of a BMW...!

Yeah, but you'd never have to bother using your indicators again.

I think he is trying to resolve the issue by getting as close to the mic as possible which does nothing for clarity.

My thinking is they cant get the volume up in the Lansdown because he stands in the tunnel area and it feeds back when they try to raise it, meaning that to get it louder he has to raise his voice which isnt working and is distorting. It could also be that they are stretching the limits of the wireless mic which can also result in bad sound.

They need a high pass filter at 90-100k as we dont need to hear the low end of his voice, they also need a compresser to catch his vocal when it exceeds a set volume so that clarity and quality is preserved. (They may have an EQ on the mic but whoever has done it needs re training)

Do we gain much from having him on a wireless mic, walking around? A static mic in a controlled area like a box would be much easier to control in terms of clarity and he could be given any information about subs etc, its not like hes walking round the stadium like they used to.

I dont have much faith in them to resolve the issue, theyve struggled to get the PA in the Lansdown hospitality right since it opened, and thats just a simple powered speaker set up (Because the speakers in the ceiling presumably feed back when they try to use them for guest speakers). Theyve resorted to having the guest walking between the tables being followed by a dinner trolly with a speaker on it so that section can hear, its embarrassing to watch every week and this is in an areas where the club should be trying to excel and upsell.

They must have engaged a company to organise and resolve the issues regarding sound in all areas of the stadium but I wonder who is resposible for the audio around the stadium and in the hospitality areas on a day to day basis? Do they actually have a trained technician or is this somebody from hospitality moonlighting?

Ive done sound and lighting for indoor and outdoor events for 15 years and if anyone from the club wants some free help im more than happy to offer it.

    Sorry for the essay :)

Been out of the PA game for a long time. Used to look after Ashton Gate pre Dolman stand. Wide open spaces to cover in the Open end etc, etc. The legend Dennis Langley on the mic and for Hospital Broadcast. Announcer needs to be just that not a bloody DJ. Oh and we did manage to use frequency shifters in event rooms where a mic needed to be in indoor areas with speakers. Probably old hat now.

Fair enough.  I’ve barely seen him play. I think I could name 10 better centre backs than Maguire though

I'm not a Maguire lover but the 10 better than him are they English?

  9. Oh so different from my schoolboy years playing football from the late 1950s. Played in the school junior and senior teams on a Saturday morning then in the afternoon the Federation of Boys Clubs League that started at under 14 level, although we were all 12 year old, then progressed to under 16s at 14 years old. Only adult present was either a school master or Boys Club leaders who normally refereed the games. Whilst the school masters were usually sports teachers some of the Club leaders didn't have a clue of the laws of the game. We made are own way to games travelling all over Bristol on the bus or on our bikes. We had great fun and made lifelong friends. I appreciate that there are many adults who give up tremendous amounts of their time in many capacities to enable the youngster leagues to function these days.  However, a lot teams appear to exist to just win and that puts pressure on the youngsters to perform at the expense, at times, to the detriment of enjoyment. As with most things these days it's all so different to us oldies.

Apart from the '76 squad..Gibson, Briggs, Thresher, Parr, Connor, Low, Derrick, Clark, Atyeo, Williams, Hooper.

Too early for most on here but a entertaining team.

Week after week this team was consistently the one picked. The names just rolled off the tongue. The correct player in the correct position. Keeper, two full backs centre half, two half backs, two wingers, two inside forwards and a centre forward.

IMO the BEP certainly used to have a pro-Rovers bias, which was especially noticeable when there were arrests for football related trouble: City arrests headlined but Rovers arrests quietly tucked away, but to be entirely fair I haven't noticed that for a few years now.

    Other than that I agree.

Does anyone read the "Post" now to know what it's reporting?
