There are so many different conundrums, damned if you do, damned if you don't scenario.

Look at the cases of signing Kalas, Palmer and DaSilva. The money we paid and the wages we paid/pay them.

On paper at the time it seemed worthwhile.

Now look at them and compare them with players we have in the team now, who will probably never earn wages they've been on...but imo just as good if not better.

The messages that sends out to a squad is confusing and frustrating. Both for players, managers, CEOs and Agents.

The transitional period we are in now with wages etc etc is going to to take a lot of getting used to.

As soon as I started seeing Ferraris in the players car park, and compared it to the average performances on the pitch, I knew we were in trouble.

Is this why they now park up at the HPC and arrive by coach.

And some of those games were terrible. Remember the one at the end of the season when we had the chance to relegate them to League 1 and we were just abject. It’s not a new phenomenon - it’s been pretty much the same since Cotts was sacked.

What the one where our players did a favour for Cotts who was assistant to Harry at the time.

  3. Yes, remember it well. Had my 15th birthday in January. I did a morning paper round on my bike starting at 6 o clock in the morning and finishing at about 8 o clock in time to have breakfast and then cycle to school. Paper round covered Knowle West and Hengrove and I managed until Easter before coming off the bike due to the snow melt turning to ice overnight.

Exactly this, but its difficult, as you think about past xmases with my brother/sisters and their families, for the past 2 years I have been chucked on the rubbish pile and they have not contacted me at all; my crime was to take my wife to hospital in Chelt, for a last chance op to save a smashed eye ball and stay with her; rather than attend my 95yr old mothers funeral in Bristol, who died from dementia/covid. (The op saved her eye ball but not her sight in one eye and she has not driven since)

Still have my own family and grandchildren to get me through, but still think of years past

Dear gl2 it's so sad to hear this situation has occured but please don't beat yourself up over it. Your dear old mum would have been born about the same time as mine and that generation of ladies put their families, particularly their children, above everything else and made tremendous sacrifices to ensure their wellbeing. I should know as I was the eldest of 8 kids, dragged up in Knowle West, and as I grew older I could understand what was going on. I'm sure your Mum would have been of the same ilk and would perfectly understand the decision you made.

Hopefully sometime in the near future your siblings will have a change of heart, maybe through a situation they experience, which will change their outlook.

In the meantime stay focused on the loved ones around you and try to stay positive looking forward. Best regards.

  5. Well after witnessing todaysk debacle I have decided not to even watch the first half on Boxing Day. Instead of dropping the wife off with the kids and then go off to the match I'm going to stay with the family. I'll think of a very family orientated reason and not that I can't stand facing a game that's likely to spoil my Christmas.

They can say what they want, but the reality is that their teams have gained points also  from penalties, red cards, offside decisions, etc. whereas our team simply CAN'T.  Surely other teams make defensive mistakes too or fail to score, but our errors are more costly because we have to do more than others.

The players and Pearson's weaknesses are a different matter, and DON'T JUSTIFY referees behaviour and the constant decisions against us.

Only a naif/blind football supporter can think that this element is not having an impact on our results/table.

And school boy defending coupled with p*** poor distribution ( I counted 6 misplaced shortish passes and happened to look at my watch, 6 minutes played) doesn't have an impact?

  7. I know nothing about EVs but a friend who has just bought a new one claims the predicted mileage on his screen is not affected by heated seats or steering wheel being switched on. But if he uses the car heater the predicted mileage scale just drops and drops. He's going to buy a pair of knee high fur lined boots.

I did as well for a season. I'll stand by my statement. It was full of inconsiderate people...not all...but when stuck on a bus with them , you can't get away from them.

Public transport is a nightmare in this country.

Its broken... doesn't work half the time...and when it does, you have no choice on the people you have to share it with.

Who wants to be sat next to a bloke eating a rotisserie chicken like an apple, whilst listening to some woman with no social awareness talking on the phone loudly about her fanny problems to some nurse!!! Everytime it's like an episode from little Britain ?

I couldn't agree with you more.

I think the whole thing is bullshit mate.

There are plenty of unemployed people. Low skilled people came across pre Brexit and got jobs driving buses.

Yet they keep blaming lack of drivers for a few years now.

There are plenty of people that are able to drive buses in this country.

In saying that...from a personal perspective...the last thing I'd want to do is spend time on public transport.

It's either empty, late, or full beyond capacity. Then you get the idiots you have to share space with.

Public transport is like an ambulance...it's the last thing you want to be in.

Oi, I use the buses regularly to get to the Gate.

  10. Fred was manager throughout my teenage years and can remember when passing his house in West Town Lane looking in in awe. Just checked to confirm my memory and after a season managing the Gas he went to Swindon for 3 seasons and they finished in their highest position, 3rd in League 2. They also won the Anglo Italian Cup twice beating the likes of Napoli, AS Roma and Juventus.

He is just a young man that has made some mistakes.  I'd hate to be defined by some of the bellend behaviour I've got up to in the past.  The only difference is I wasn't famous and there weren't any cameras about back in my day.

What a really genuine caring young man.   Hope he get lots of game time in the WC.

    As the saying goes,

in the defence of alcohol I have done some pretty stupid things when sober.

The tannoy system in the Dolman is awful.
Is it fuckery I can hear a Norman Collier impersonater on there every week.Great stuff I say I thought Glyn Riley and Alan Walsh ? were playing last week.

P A system in the Dolman? Surely that's a myth.

Yes, I could see it hit the defender from my seat, just couldn’t tell if the defender had done well to block the pass lane.

At the time I thought it was excellent positioning by the defender and from my viewing position in the Dolman, and being a bit picky I thought Wells should have checked his run slightly and received a squarer ball, this avoiding the block, but he was going at full pelt.

    No,

    That was John Galley

Yes, was working at the Gate and saw Galley running the line on the five a side pitch on the car park behind the "Grand Stand" with a bib in hand and foot in a plaster cast. He played on the Saturday.

Was it his debut and did he notch a couple or even an hat trick?

I don't go to football for the thrill of carefully considered decisions drawing on all the evidence available, assessed in a measured and balanced manner.

I go to Weston Magistrates court for that.

See you next week then m'lud.

I’m not sure that’s quite right - that officials have an assessor in the stands.

Used to happen and I well remember sitting in on a debrief by Roger don’t you know who I am Milford.

The Milf - and he wasn’t - would swan in, his lovingly coiffured locks flowing behind him, wearing his designer rain coat - you could tell it was designer as he didn’t unpick the little label that was stitched on the cuff.

He’d then sit down and when everyone was sitting comfortably he’d begin….

Nowadays I think EFL officials are assessed remotely. Might be wrong but I wanted to tell my Milf story in any case…. ?

Roger to a tee. So unlike Ed Morrison the international rugby ref from Bristol.

When I watch my 11 year old grandson play all I focus on is him (and his team mates) showing them possitivity & support.

As for anyone that needs to be involved in machoistic sabre rattling at a boys/girls football match it's pathetic.

I wonder what chance in life some of the kids actually have with this as an example.

For the brief period my son played at kids level gave every lad on the pitch encouragement never criticism or calling out the ref. Couldn't see much wrong with that. Although the near 40 years I played "men's" football was a different kettle of fish.
