  1. Surprised so many are going for Williams inclusion. If we go with back three it was proved in the last game that he does not seem to have the legs or nous to provide defensive cover. Even MP commented on how Bell was left exposed.

  2. Personally from memory I didn't think he did to bad defensively. Problems were caused on his side by Williams being poor at supporting him and covering. Williams was even pointing at him to cover the run of other players when it was obvious it was Williams's responsibility.

Yes he made mistakes on the ball but that was going forward. Assume NP took him off because of this and didn't want him to get to dispirited.

@BS4 on Tour...Personal opinion, Deeney’s legs looked like they’d gone at Watford last season.  This season he’s not quite as slow as he looked last season.

It's called deceptive pace Dave. I had it when I played. I looked quicker than I actually was.

Moving from the floodlights - the four corner pylons were just classic style - to dividing railings.

I didn’t think the dividers went in on the Park End until after the Stoke City match, where there was a bit of a rumpus, the first home game in Division One.

This photo seems to pre date that match, as I’m sure we had pylon floodlights by then.

We’ll be on to the Souvenir shops next!

If you look carefully you can see two sets of railings and I believe these lined the inclined ramp at the Ashton Rd entrance ( now to the Dolman Stand ) adjacent to Crackers Corner. A bit of an optical illusion.

I can remember when we had floodlights all around the pitch and they all were turned on individually

Correct and that's what I consider "the old floodlights". Could even lower the whole floodlight to the ground when not required so as they didn't block the view of the pitch. Tried to find a photo of them but couldn't. No doubt someone will.

Not sure where they went when the four corner ones were installed.

Me too. I haven’t been since the shambolic battering at the hands of Blackburn. I haven’t witnessed such a lack lustre performance in years. We offered nothing going forward. And the throw in routine was at under 3 level of ?.

I vowed not to return unless we were entertaining.

I’m hoping for that. And a bit of fight and commitment.

    and a 3-1 city win.

Nothing changed in that department then.

I know he has a thread already, but I wanted to talk about just one aspect of Saturdays performance. I have seen players using "stepovers" so often in recent years, and thought how little effect they seem to have, other than to often bamboozle themselves rather than the opponent.

I have watched that 2nd goal a few times now and I don't think I have ever seen it used so effectively. Han breezed past their player so easily it was almost embarrassing, it was as effective as Cruyff's great turn or the "Walshy shuffle".

It's rare to see a player beaten and being left facing the wrong direction and that moment deserves to be a meme for years to come.

Glen Roeder of Newcastle was a great exponent of this type of step over. I copied him and got away with it a few times. Trick is to play a couple of passes with the outside of the foot past an opponent just out of reach and he is then sucked into the final dummy one expecting another pass.

There`s always been injury time as far as I can remember. Back before you knew how much was due to be added on was fun though!

I don't think the ref knew either as it was stop the watch for an injury, restart the watch when the sponge man left the pitch and play restarted. Hence the match always lasted for 90 minutes on the ref's watch.

Can they both lose? I still can't forgive us not relegating Brum on the last day of the season three or four seasons back.

Weren't the players doing Cotts a favour?

Remember Joe Bryan being unable to clear the first man with his crosses every time he tried. Very suspicious.

What a joke of an opening post. If this had been posted by Hampshire Red everyone would’ve slagged him right off and call for him to be banned.
Just because Mark is a regular on a podcast and on the radio, doesn’t excuse this thread. It’s ridiculous.
Pring has been superb this season and was superb in this match. And to even make that effort going forward in the 94th minute was fantastic to see.
Maybe he could’ve gone to the corner, but it was a 2 on 1 attack. There aren’t many players in the world who would’ve gone to the corner in that situation.
For what it’s worth, I thought the lone defender did well. He stayed in a good position. It was clear Cam was going to want to find the pass to Semenyo and the defender made sure this option was constantly blocked. I’m glad Cam was trying to be so positive.
There are plenty of other things to point out as to why we didn’t win that game. Pring being a positive attacking threat in the 94th minute is not one of them.
    Joke of a thread!

    Agree entirely Harry.

Saw all these calls for the options Cam had so thought be had completely mucked up by trying to beat a man in a dangerous area. Highlights only showed the Preston attacking phase from out wide. Then someone posted a clip from a Preston fan showing the whole play from when we robbed the ball and Cam set off. I'll bet the City fans were more than willing him on as he broke away with Semenyo on hand as well. Probably not many shouting for him to go to the corner or whack it into row Z. If he had he would have been chastised.

Although the loss of the ball ultimately led to the equaliser as he broke the the rest of the team should have been automatically taking up their positions to keep a decent shape particularly as Cam was out of position. Plenty of other slack play went on notwithstanding the space created, by pulling away from his marker, by the goal scorer.

I totally agree - at a recent-ish gig I had to ask a young chap in front of me to kindly lower his iPad (through which he was filming the gig) as I couldn’t see a bloody thing and I certainly didn’t wanna watch the gig through his sodding iPad - I long for the frenetic gigs of the ‘70s and ‘80s when we just had a brill time without pissing of those behind us ... ?

Happened today in front of me. Four  youngsters stood up, blocking our view, videoing our fans  celebrating our third goal after Cardiff restarted the game. Had to politely request them to kindly refrain from inhibiting our sightlines and requested them to return their posteriors to their seats, please.

One of the technically best players we have.

I really do hope he kicks on and goes back to the standard he has shown in the past.

I still think he's better going forward than he is defensively, but hopefully he can still improve that side too.

Thankfully outside distraction has moved on imo

Fingers crossed he'll now kick on and prove his worth.

    Thought today was the opposite.
