  1. It just struck me that’s it’s 30 yrs ago when I went to the tournament with a few mates.

At the time being young single and fancy free I was going everywhere with city and a few England trips. Football was still relatively inexpensive then.(the beer wasn’t!)

It was the best “single holiday” of my life. The football was shocking but oh my goodness was a crack we had.

Anyone else on here go to the tournament and want to share their experience?

Still having my doubts whether Carlton Palmer was international class?

Clayfield Rd holds many memories for me, it was the go to place with injury's from being in the park and, the cut through to Sherwell. Two mates lived there, Gary Coomer at No.10 and Mike Davis up the hill on the right. Plus the Chaffey's.

    Sorry away weekend rich.

My family and myself knew all the chaffs despite me being slightly younger.

Always nice to look back on golden/olden times.

I ran a coach once from Briz to Peterborough in a cup match, I just can't seem to find reference to it anywhere, about1973, Took their end and had a few run ins. It was so long ago that it was a buglers coach and Shem, Minnie and a couple of others tagged along. Then they damaged the effin seats, Buglers wouldn't take any more bookings. My one and only coach.?

I live in Clayfield Rd where Buglers were.

Shem,Minnie you obviously know Briz‘s finest.???

I started going on Shem tours from 1989/90 when I started working with him.

The best days of my life honestly. All the rolls Royce/aerospace boys I salute u all.The people I met on these trips.I could write a book -pissed up with the city and last minute agony (is it a bit long for a title) - it would win the Pulitzer Prize and be a bestseller

If Shem didn’t have a coach/Aztec half coach as I use to say 33 seater/ mini bus/ he said to me “beanie will have a coach”

    And  those are another stories
    goodnight ?

I am a bit disappointed to see that we play both Sunderland and Wigan in our early opening fixtures. Whilst they are teams from the division below they often make up for their deficiencies with extra motivation and energy. Also they are used to winning.

I much prefer to play them after six to eight weeks when they run out of steam and the bubble has burst.

So we will need to be on our game from the off to avoid dropped points. I don’t agree with Bristol Live that it is an easy start.

I agree with major and even liked this thread.I would prefer to play clubs at our level so to speak early doors.

However remember us romping the league and Mickey Mouse cup under Mr C.
We struggled big time the next season. We were used to winning  and suddenly we looked very ordinary.mMomentum/ confidence is huge imho.

Anyhow whoever we play cmon u reds

That's what his wife wrote in her letter; which is why they have it in quotation marks.

It does seem excessive given that as a rule of thumb is that one bottle of wine equals four pints.  I worked with someone who didin't eat at all during the day but every night had a big meal and two bottles of wine; if he was pushing the boat out he might go up to four I suppose.  I couldn't drink sixteen pints of beer though; the sheer volume alone would make it impossible.

Never been much of  big I am however.

1991 / 92 Sunderland away.we left briz village at 6am on Shem tours.I had bought a 24 pack of Stella between myself big jas and Martin .On arriving at Chester le street we then had 3 rounds each and staggered back to the coach .

onto the game 3 nil up .Ithink Andy Cole scored twice and leroy rosenröter the third?

    We won 3-1

After the game the 2 litre bottle of blackthorn was drank and then we stopped at Mecca of the midlands- Ashby de la zouch for refreshments as well.

Absolutely steaming when the coach dropped us back in briz village about 2am.

Back up the Good Intent at 12 the next day

joey and his lightweight wife can do one

Im 51 now and can no longer do this.

  6. Without a doubt the worst pundit employed by sky.

Dean Windass had a go for a while on the “around the ground” commentator.

However villas finest has set the bar exceedingly low.

I appreciate he has had mental health issues but he really is the Bristol Rovers of the pundit game.

To Lee Hendrie “you have sat in the sky studios too long for any good you have been doing.Depart, I say and let us have done with you.In the name of OTIB go”

  7. City v Spurs Jan 79

I was 8 - Im sure the game was on match of the day as well to see Gerry gow booked ? I was in the children’s enclosure

Fairly sure it’s the biggest crowd I’ve been in at the gate as well.Spurs had ossie in the side not sure about ricki villa?

I can remember from getting off the bus at temple meads with my dad and walking along the cut past all the spurs fans singing songs in the pub where the Peugeot showroom was.

I know the game was shite but hooked for life with everything about football- crowds/singing/swearing- absolutely proper mind - I wish there was YouTube so I could watch it again.

  8. Blackbird1 I hate those tosses with a passion because they are annoying xxxxx.

Look at the kit, look at ground, look at their fans, hollow head, the fake sheik.

,tick tock they r coming for us,the trumpton yrs, their stupid ####kin song.

Give me a reason to like the gits cuz I know they don’t like us.

My oldest mate (best man) is dopey gas **** .I txt him regularly. At the moment hourly they are that amusing.

Im 50 I know I shouldn’t care but that’s football ,it gets in your bones.

I have a feeling there was a game v the gas that was called off due to the area around the stadium being frozen. I remember putting my golf spikes on to walk to the shop.

I think that was the icy pre match game when the gas hit squad turned up like cockney wannabes in a back of a lorry and got slapped about round st Nicholas market- happy days

  11. I watched the BT rerun of the Arsenal game yesterday. He looked some player.I was only 6 when it happened but a lot of older city fans I know reckon he would have gone onto play for England.

Such a shame his injury robbed him and us the chance to see what he could have achieved.
