It’s not because Shankland is based in Scotland. It’s because Shankland is the top scorer in Scotland. By some distance (6 goals clear this season). And has 48 league goals in 74 league games in the last 2 seasons.

Hes not tall and hard running is he?

This is perfect to me and despite all the criticism, at least JL has set the marker. We’ve given Liam 6 months to adapt and learn the league, we now expect results.

As said above, the first 10 games will be huge next season, even more so now in my book.

If after 10 games we are in the playoff mix, job is being done. Next review would be Christmas time, are we still there. If we are not in play off contention at either of these two checkpoints, sorry Liam but your head is on the line.

To some degree that depends on what happens in the transfer window too, if we happen to get twine, plus another 3-4 million on a striker, and a million or 2 on a winger, then there wont be much patience, if those type of signings dont happen, im not sure liam will wait long enough to be fired. The thing is, even with those signings i just dont see us challenging, because we never do.

We'll be in the top half all season

Id love it if you are right!

but ive seen basically nothing in 25 or so years of the lansdowns owning the club to suggest they have any knowledge of how to get the club to that level.

Got a crystal ball have you Glen?

With us both being in the Championship we’ll obviously be rivals.

We will play them twice next season but thats about the extent of our rivalry with Burnley, they will be top 6 all season, we will be lucky to be in the top half at any point.

If Twine just had the season he's had but for someone else, and if he had no connection to our manager, would we be keen to sign him?

    I'd think not.

Manning needs to practice what he preaches here and take the emotion out of it.

For 5 million quid, we need to be buying a guaranteed hit. Twine ain't that at this level.

So we'd be taking a punt, hoping he'd grow into one. And the price we pay for a punt at this level is probably about half what Burnley want.

Do we have anyone clever enough to strike such a bargain?

Not sure its a matter of being clever enough to strike a bargain,,, if someone came to buy your house for half the asking price the deal wouldn’t happen no matter who they were.

And some very low points totals will keep two teams that have cheated the system up.

Tie it in with a tussle at the top between an insufferable trio, 115 charges still hanging over the head of the darlings from Moss Side, the aforesaid PSR cases, failing to block the Football Governance Bill being tabled, and a pretty dire Man Utd, Chelsea, and Spurs still somehow looking at finishing high up.

It's really been a pretty shitty season for The Football Association Premier League Ltd.

    Oh well, how sad. Anyway...

    Best league in the world!

    Ditto.

I’m going to tap my sign again that says Liam has had three seasons in management and has not brought through one academy player to be a regular first team squad member (who actually plays some minutes - hello Jamie KL) at any club. He has a reputation (based on being an academy coach) of bringing through and developing youth but this is totally and utterly unfounded at this point - and a five minute cameo off the bench for Morrison doesn’t change that.

To be frank, there are still bigger question marks for me and it’s a big first 12 games next season. But three seasons, three clubs, not one player isn’t just “there was no quality coming through” - it’s rank unwillingness to use the system (despite the sound bites of looking to the academy first), and once more you have to wonder exactly how much due diligence was done on Liam as a “fit” for the club as he doesn’t appear to share the academy ethos.

Im not sure where he came through an academy but manning obviously gave twine the big breakthrough at mk when twine was still 21. The jurys still out but if he had someone coming through of that quality then they might have been in. Weve obviously kept bell and conway from this batch that have been released, but no one else was really competing for minutes, and the under 18s are all still very young. Hopefully they will start to get minutes next season.

There was a centre half at Leicester about twenty years ago (Elliot ?) used to score a lot of goals, scored all four in a two all draw once !!! 🤣

De vos at ipswich always used to get a few as well?

Yes, funny how there were ZERO additions following the sale of Scott!

A completely unnecessary and self harming decision by JL and led to Phil Alexander leaving the club.

    Ask yourself....

Why did we not get Twine in the summer?

Where would we now be in the league if we had?

Having instead gone to Hull, how much MORE did it cost to get Burnley to recall him and then loan him to us?

    It just stinks!

A hobby chairman who thinks he knows best but actually knows bugger all...

I agree, but TGH signed 12 days after scott left.

    How are you judging progression?

    Points?

    League position?

, neither of those apparently? For us to improve on both after selling our best young talent in decades is realistically as good as we could have hoped for, albeit with serious ups and downs in some of the performances.

If that’s true. We could very much be in trouble next season.

We will probably finish 10-15th next season, like most other seasons. Bird in, twine on a perm plus a big fast striker and i cant see relegation being a concern, though thats with the caveat that oleary, vyner, dickie, can stay fit all season.

Pre recorded to be safe and sure. What a shame we cannot do a live phone in and on the spot transparency. Does worry me.

I think I recall when tinnion was on, the interviewer was getting props on here for asking some direct questions,, this could be quite interesting!

Our midfield looks promising , the big bit now is the No.10 .
    As it stands we have ;
    Bird , Knight , TGH , Stokes , Murphy , Williams? James?

Defence when all fit looks decent too.

Striker one short as it is, 2 if Conway goes .

Who was it that did the squad depth thing ?

Yes, probably need a decent keeper to come in and challenge max as well, if possible

Just imagine though, if you’d used those limited funds in August rather than January!  That’s always been a big thing for me.  I will never be able to square that off in my head, coupled with “you want a CB, here’s Daniel Ayala”.  Hey ho!

Yep, they basically wrote the season off before it started, and its why after 20 odd years we are no closer to the prem now than we have been since they took over.

If “no one can convince you otherwise” what’s the point in bringing it up? This forum is used for among many things debate, would be hard to do that if you can’t let opinions change at all.

I would agree off plain numbers i’d expect us to finish 5 points better, top 10. That’s what i said pre-season before scott’s sale.

Since then, we’ve sold our best player, not reinvested it. Had a major injury crisis forcing us to name a defence with 1 player in the right position for at least 1 game. A change of manager. An extremely toxic club environment. Having to name the same centre back pairing for what 30 games straight.

We haven’t exactly been the most fortunate? For the multitude of games we should’ve/could’ve won there’s probably a relatively close number of games we didn’t expect anything from that we won.

Was it a sensational season? No. But it wasn’t bad either, and considering what’s gone on this campaign that’s not too bad imo. Don’t see a problem with people celebrating our recent upwards trend in results and performance.

Agreed, to sell scott and reinvest limited funds but still finish with what will likely to be more points and potentially a higher place is realistically about as much as we could expect.

I going against the grain here and all the expert sages we have on here, when he came on I thought he had a nice touch but looked a total stranger to his team mates which was not surprising given he had only just come in. The step up in fitness and speed of the championship is massive to a player who has not been playing, but the clips of him training from a while back he looked to have good quality finishing, but perhaps he needs time physically to be up to this level.

As for not getting on the pitch, I will give an alternative conspiracy theory that we are happy for other teams to not seem him play, particularly if we are having to negotiate a deal for him.

Of course I could be wrong and he will go back and never be heard from again, but even if thats the case we lost very little bringing him in and looking and so what if he is just sat on the bench we cannot fill anyway.

Sounds sensible to me, in the old days we would spend millions on players then never play them, bringing him in for not a lot to have a look at him seems like a good idea compared to what happened with engvall, szomdics et al.

Really easy to say mindless stuff this.

He has played 45 minutes twice for the 21s now with a lengthy gap between games.

What exactly we are supposed to do when 2 ACLs has meant that after all this time he appears unable to play more than half a game without doing his hamstring, I have no idea. Do you?

Terrible for him but sometimes it makes absolutely no difference what plan you have if a player has an injury he cannot overcome.

Manning just came out and said they were looking to carry out an investigation into it didnt he? For the whole club, not just for one player, he’s obviously mindless too compared to your all encompassing knowledge of everything.
