Conway at his best there, running alongside a defender, beats him to it, causes a problem with a good ball into a dangerous area. I wish we saw more of those situations, it's where Conway really causes the opposition problems and exactly what we've not been seeing of him under Manning, hopefully the odd glimpse will make Manning realise that's where Conway is best.

Yes, really want to see twine start a few games supplying conway. Like him or not, there’s no denying that twine was mannings pick in January, and for him to be missing this long has really thrown a spanner in the works.

And to be clear, that footballing due diligence would have been totally at Tinnions door. Irrespective of whether people want to defend him for other things, that’s the one thing that undoubtedly would have been down to him.

Yes, that sort of thing is now his responsibility, and its reasonable that he should be held to account for it.

i dont think anyone could influence the lansdowns either👍 frightening to think that they actually thought along the same lines as MA though isnt it and backed him 100%.  suck up to them and get big rewards

Yes, and look at ashton now,, its sickening but no one can say the impact hes had at ipswich hasnt been huge,,, perhaps that could have been the case here, but our owners arent as clear at what they want as theirs?

    So..

You dont believe he played a major role in shafting Pearson to further his own career (behaviour of a snake in the workplace), or you accept he did, but consider it ok as he played a lot of games for us?

Pearsons departure was on football grounds, so who provided that insight Micky Bell, Scotty?

I certainly consider him unintelligent in the context of the role he has snagged for himself, and he hasnt actually delivered any Academy lads to the 1st team who werent made ready by Probert.

    Hes fair game imo.

I don’t believe he has sufficient power to influence the lansdowns either way, and if he didnt carry out their plan, he would have been gone next. I also believe pearson knew he wouldnt be getting a new contract, and starting making noises in the press that may hasten his departure with his contract paid in full. Tinnions role in that i dont think was particularly significant, but the recruitment of manning he will have probably been told to carry out interviews etc, clearly the club knew who he was before pearson went.

i dont see you quoting any known sources that tinnion shafted pearson apart from heresay and conjecture from people on here who dont like how it was done. I dont think it was done correctly either, but if the major decisions over the last 20 odd years have been lansdowns, all apart from this one which is tinnions, i cant believe anyone seriously believes that.

Attitudes to fitness were very different back then Simon. I used to see several City players drinking in my local pub in Nailsea. Tinnion was one of them as was Scot Murray who the more pints he had the louder and more profane he became. The then landlord Ron (who was a miserable git) threatened to chuck him out if he didn’t tone down his language.

Agree, but we were still a mess. and i loved murray, but the local star footballer being threatened to get kicked out the pub for his drunken behaviour, shouldn’t have been acceptable then or now, and half our team was doing it in those days!

    Simon, Simon, Simon.

The only agenda people have on here is wanting the best for Bristol City. And nobody thinks the decisions are nothing to do with the Lansdowns. But as the only “football man” in the heirarchy, it’s more than reasonable to acknowledge that Brian was involved in football decisions.

In short, if he isn’t what is he being paid for?

So, now we’ve got those parameters established for you, and you can understand my - and several others - “agendas” in wanting the best for this club,  can you explain your “agenda” in appearing to want to give someone wholly incompetent a free pass because you liked him kicking a ball around once?

Silvio, silvio, silvio, if its a discussion about tinnions qualities as a technical director at this level im up for discussing it, and i have my doubts about his suitability for that role, but not his impact on the academy, or his playing career with us. I think he has earned enough respect from those earlier roles to not be called snake, sid, thick, unintelligent, or have someone thinking that the blame for all our troubles lies solely at his door, which is what was said earlier.

I never knew that CR. I obviously missed that SL interview. It was a big mistake sacking DW.

We were a mess at that point, the stories of the players habits was well known, I remember being sat in the revolution bar watching members of the first team squad smoking.. it took your mate GJ to come and fix it in the end.

At the time SL said in interview that he phoned Danny to inform him of some budget cuts for the next season, one of which was dispensing with the services of the sports psychologist that Danny was using and SL thought unnecessary , DW disagreed and in SL's words " I decided I couldn't work with him anymore and sacked him"

I was struck by the phrase ' I decided ' because back then we still had a board but SL unilaterally made the decision and saw no reason to involve or discuss it with other board members.

It's always been Steve's way or the highway.

Yes, and that was 20 years ago. Anyone coming to the club to work has to accept it on that basis.

Theres toeing the owners line and there’s actively politicking. But thanks for confirming Brian’s total lack of moral fibre and desire to do what’s best for the club.

If you found yourself as ceo of a professional football club on lets say, for example 250000 per year, in your last few years of your working career, where the owner is very wealthy and completely controls the narrative and wanted to replace the manager, would you resign in protest knowing it was going to happen anyway?

I respect pearson for keeping us afloat in the circumstances he had, and building the close knit squad he did, but he must have known when he came out publicly and said theres no one around to discuss his contract extension what it was going to lead to, after the alex scott quote when he was sold that he didnt know about it, not getting the transfer proceeds to spend and after telling the lansdowns their plan of selling players to survive was crap as well? i don’t blame pearson, it was probably a relief for him when he left given his health situation too that i hope is much better now, id love to sit with him for a beer to hear his side of it, but anyone thinking it was all tinnions doing along, nothing to do with the lansdowns, is either totally naive, or has an agenda against tinnion specifically,,, and its clear that a lot on here do, including you.

Not even Danny Wilson himself knew why he was sacked. Got a dismissal phone call whilst on holiday telling him that his services were no longer required.

If he didnt know why he got sacked after that horror show then he shouldn’t have had the job anyway. Plus that squad under that manager clearly had issues off the pitch that he couldnt or wouldn’t get any control over, maybe things would have turned out better for wilson had his first team players not been out smoking and drinking till all hours.

  11. 9 minutes ago, Silvio Dante said:

I don’t know. Would said different CEO/Technical Director also have a history of knifing others in the back to get jobs outside of their ability level?

If so, I agree the outcome wouldn’t have been different

If you mean danny wilson, after that brighton game his sacking was inevitable, and after that performance, was deserved. Alexander came out to praise pearson and got fired soon after, you either tow the owners line in his club, or you get fired.

Spot on and the blame must land at the so called City legend Tinnion,at least we knew where we stood with Pearson, does anyone believe a word that comes out of our manager or the people above him anymore if they did before

The blame must land with the owner, and thats not tinnion. Theres been 20 odd years of mistakes crap appointments and missed opportunities. Do you really think the decision to sack pearson would have been any different if tinnion was still working with the academy and a different ceo/ technical director was in place?

  13. Another thread about how terrible everything is, ideally the season would just end now so this frenzy of anger can just simmer down,, hopefully we can release a few, get the new striker and creative midfielder in, have a pre season and come back stronger next time.

Another thing I liked with the previous regime , the other coaches and staff were encouraged to do interviews .
I found the Dave Rennie one about the Hamstring situation really interesting. At that point you just knew things were going in the right direction and problems were being spotted, assessed and acted on .

Since that lot went , I'm not the only one to question fitness across the squad . Now we appear to be playing players with injuries and knocks , I feel it's not a recipe for success .

Its not a recipe for success, but with a smaller squad, the injury situation snowballs, had oleary vyner or dickie got injured we would be in big trouble, but by playing every game its more likely they will be picking up knocks, prings got something going on now as well. We obviously concentrate on our players, i wonder just how we compare to others?

Injuries aside, i've not been overly impressed by Naismith and i'm still not sure what Nige's plan was when he brought him in?

He's clearly not mobile or physical enough to play as a centre back in a back 4, so i can only think that Nige wanted to play a back 5 all the time?

I can remember numerous times when he gave the ball away which led to us conceding, and for the wages he's reportedly on, he's been a bit of a disaster really.

His one successful season at Luton appears to have got him his nice final big contract before he moves on a free to Partick Thistle!

Have to agree, we could make much better use of that wage, shame we are committed to it for a while longer.

There is a point where someone can say “I don’t want to do the job you’re offering”.  We know from Tins himself he feels he’s deserving of the role…so imho he deserves to be critiqued based on the role.

Critiquing him in the role is fine, calling him sid, questioning his intelligence, the personal stuff is pathetic , hes earned the right over the years to at least be respected.

    How about Medube?

Im not totally aware of the situation with mebude, im no expert on eu/ belgian work permit legislation, if someone did lie about that, then it seems rather pointless. he may have unsuccessfully tried to apply for an eu member country passport or something, and therefore was not eligible for a work permit, ive no idea?

  18. Depends on the reason for the lie i suppose, and some things might be commercially sensitive, or confidential, such as the mccrorie thing, and was only discussed further when mccrorie was ready to discuss it, and that was a million pound signing where information was withheld. If murphy has some kind of ongoing situation that we missed/ glossed over, it doesnt paint anyone in a great light if we still went ahead with the deal, they might feel the lie/ withholding information is worth it, even if it eventually comes out!

I’ve often plumped for a figure of £80m +/- £20m for the Football Club (inc HPC and Women’s) and Stadium, so we aren’t far apart.

Maybe with the stadium included, but with their premier league history, id imagine west brom are regarded at least 1 level above us, if not 2. Its always curious to me though, with so many clubs around there, how the likes of west brom and wolves are consistently in and around the premier league with good support, yet we never manage it, our catchment area is huge, which might be the reason we have a high value. actually i think we all know the reason why we never manage it.

    My complete guesswork…

    - League of Ireland is lower in skill. Murphy is at the top of that league but…

    - League of Ireland is massively behind in terms of athleticism. Putting on the right amount and type of bulk takes many months

    - The club is aware that everything is make or break with the fans right now. If they throw him in early and he is average, or below, then that will be enough for us to write him off

    - I haven’t seen enough of him but I’d guess he’s been brought in to play with someone who isn’t here yet, and/or…

    - He’s been brought in to replace someone who we need right now, but will be gone in the summer

    - Regarding no U21 games, I genuinely believe they think he’ll get injured, so are focussing on what they can do away from the football side (he looks to be a naturally skilful player) and concentrating on the athleticism before joining a pre-season proper

Slightly unrelated on the last point… they’re probably right with this approach. My personal opinion is that our injuries are caused by the playing surfaces we use - a type of turf invented in Australia that prioritises durability for a multi-sport environment.

Id go with that, id like to see what he can do, but rather hed be in the absolute best physical condition possible than put him in early and risk a hamstring injury or something.
