Alex Scott - £25m to Bournemouth- Confirmed
Simon bristol replied to SinéadB's topic in All Things Ex Players and Managers
Not really a new scapegoat, but hes clearly had major injury issues and cant have a consistent impact for a top half championship team who are hoping for the playoffs in my view? Without the power to his game hes limited to what he offers in my view? -

I dunno? But we will be replacing a 20 odd million once in a generation midfielder with a 2/3 million midfielder? It fundamentally must be weaker? if/ when he leaves I would expect mahmeti to take scotts attacking midfield place, which hopefully he grows into. Its a shame in a lot of ways about what’s happened to benarous, that could have been his role, perhaps it might still be? -

Our midfield, with no scott, and having to assume joe williams plays every week is bottom third of the championship, unfortunately! And thats assuming knight comes in and immediately becomes one of our top players,, which he might hopefully do?! -

I like to enter discussions on here from a mutual respect srand point, and everyone is entitled to their opinion, but i just cant see why after 8/9 years at this level with the clubs that have come down, how anyone would think we are going to fly it this season? 4 new signings, and 2 have never played in the championship as far as im aware, we have several players who if anything happens to them we are in real trouble, and theres a pretty good chance our best youth player possibly since atyeo is going to get sold. Obviously we all would love to see us replicate luton, but 8th to 12th seems much more likely, and if anything happens to conway, well god knows?! -

I pretty much agree.. but i think bell will really come on strong this season and will get at least 10, and conway will get 20,,, injuries permitting… the rest though not including scott,, im inclined to agree.. there does seem a lot of people with a lot of optimism on here,, but apart from 2/3 of the lads, theres not a lot of real top end championship quality i dont think? -

Was up in sheffield at the weekend and chatted to some wednesday lads,, they were quoting 14 senior pros currently as their first team squad… conpared to that we are pretty well settled! -

It all evens out though,,, there was probably some dodgy stuff that went our way, albeit probably not a penalty! -

Well we will have to see,, obviously we all hope we do, i still see us as “bullyable” all over, especially at the back, with the best will in the world oleary isnt a top end championship keeper, and if anything happens to him then god help up if bajic has to play a run of games. Conway and bell are our best hope of goals, if conway is sold or is out for any period of time, we will seriously lack the x factor to be competing. -

I cant really see, even with scott staying, that we will pull ourselves up 14 places based on the signings weve made? What from the last 8 years would give us any evidence that this will be our season finally?! If we could cut down on weak goals conceded and finish top 10 that would be a result as far as i can see. -

I think we could really do with a top end championship keeper, but im not sure the guy that wolves are trying to get rid of and replaced him with bentley is the answer?! -
Joe Low - Signed for Wycombe

Bajic was really poor too, in fact it wasnt til scott and conway came on that we started to look threatening, it was appalling. -

Yes, was really bad to see a young lad get exposed like that,, good luck to him with this move. -

I think he was being deliberately pessimistic with his analysis of the game.. -

Conway looks scary good, its so natural to him. Plus hes like a twin to a young shearer. -

Just a bump, i think we are all interested to see what the line ups are, when available! -

Yep, with extra money for survival/ number of appearances/ england caps etc, the final figures will all be around the 25 mark to some degree?! -

Yes, he will be an overnight millionaire when he signs for someone, any of us would take that! -

If he goes abroad it would be 300k like massengo, assuming the rules dont change. -

I kinda agree,, pep saw how he played against them, for a club with that much money, with some ageing midfielders, i dont see why they wouldnt take a punt on him?! -

Agreed! He will have a pretty good idea of what exactly has been offered, and it will make him a millionaire. -

Lansdown has confirmed a new contract offer has been on the table for months, and Scott isnt signing it, so thats clearly a hint he is keeping his options open at the very least. We cant be in a position where a prodigy comes through like this and ends up going for nothing/ running the risk of a tribunal setting the fee…. What if inter have told his agent not to sign anything, let his contract run out and they will take him on a free transfer in 2 years! -

Yes agreed, he will definitely have a preferred list in his mind of where he would like to end up. Lots of people on this chat are talking about a bidding war, but i just dont see it happening, unless the bidding war is for his salary. -
Real Madrid - 'business' lessons from Mark Ashton?
Simon bristol replied to highlandcityfan's topic in Football Chat
Im much more familiar with the barcelona situation than real madrid, but i understand madrid have spent a whole lot on the stadium during covid times and were playing games at a smaller venue for a while which will have resulted in a significantly reduced income for a while, perhaps this cash injection is in part supposed to cover this 1 off expenditure? barcelona last season were ridiculous, selling future tv rights and merchandising to fund a couple of hundred million of new signings including ferran torres, raphinia and a mid 30s but great lewandowski and still paying messi a salary which they deferred for years even after after he left.
