  1. Thought they’d use the international break to announce it.. if they don’t and they said the start of September.. that’s pretty odd.

Ah well.. all the more reason to move to a proper supplier when this deal runs out…

have to say though now the season has started, as long as we win every week they can wear that yellow thing if they like.

  2. Best keepers are the ones you don’t notice… seem to be noticing max’s mishaps a little too often personally.. seems others share that sentiment.. not sure if he looks like he’s got much better and he’s coming into his prime now.

That being said if he is our number one for the year I wouldn’t worry about it that much.. he’s decent enough.. but do think we would need to improve that position in becoming a serious promotion contender.

Today he did a bit of a Frankie Fielding impression with some of those kicks to touch ?

Ordinary maybe but at the time of signing our players at a higher level than us and able to offer a significant wage increase. Whilst not all players are lured by money the overwhelming majority want to play at the highest level. Our failure to keep them was not down to our standing as a club, but to our standing in the league pyramid, which like it or not they were part of. That's how it goes. We enjoy the players while we have them and as they move on so do we.

Yeah but at the same time.. I feel his point is linked to the fact that (and I know that there are so many factors that go into it.. luck to to a certain extent) we, who view our selves as decent sized club with a good backing.. (15-25k weekly for the last couple decades) have not played a single game in the PL.

Others like PNE would feel similar I’d imagine but can’t think of loads of clubs our side that haven’t been up at least once to the Prem.

but maybe there are loads and I just see city as the next big thing.. i always have ?

    Genius transfers.

Semenyo & Scott: cost us nothing

    Sold for £35,000,000.

Sold to a Premiership bottom feeder and if either do even slightly well they'll leave within 12 months and City will benefit hugely.

    Win/Win

Makes it slightly easier to take.. If he went straight to that “top side” the likelihood of a sell on would be lower.. but at a club like Bournemouth.. if he is the real deal.. that big club will come in and we get more money down the line ?‍♂️

The interesting thing about Brighton was, unlike the others they always had a large dormant fanbase

They were in the top flight from 1979-80 to 1982-83, reaching a Cup final.

Goldstone Ground being pulled from under them, playing at Gillingham then the Withdean put a major cap on their potential.

They were able to capitalise at just the right time.

Promotion also coincided with move to the Amex in 2010-11.

In 2011-12, attendances soared from about 7.5k to 20k and fairly sure other revenues also stepped up seeing their income rise by a factor of between 2.5 and 3- this can give a club significant momentum.

Ah well excuse my lack of knowledge then both of you .. I was actually chatting nonsense.. slightly before my time. I stand corrected.

Anyway Brentford and Bournemouth can do one. Haha

edit: still think seeing where they're at and where we have been for the last 15 is a little annoying

Was with you, right up until you said "especially Brighton". Cos that's nonsense.

Hear what you are saying... and knew people would think that.. and know that their process has been way longer... but I remember when they were a league one side .. now they are one of the most exciting clubs in the country.. playing in Europe... holding onto players like Caicedo unless someone coughs up 100 million quid.

Different situation to the other two yes.. but to me seeing what they have become and what we haven't been able to winds me up. So nah not nonsense.

Exactly this IMO. We may well have to 'gamble' and hold on to our top players for an extra season at some point.

However, that time should probably come once we've at least finished in the top 10, and a push for promotion looks like a realistic possibility.

We finished 14th last season. With or without Scott, the chance of us being promoted this season is very very small.

To gamble on promotion this season and cost ourselves £10m in Scott fees would seem pretty naive.

As much as watching players AS is what football is all about .. I agree… think we are still 1/2 seasons away from seriously pushing for promotion.. so as painful as this is … we were never keeping him for more than one more year so I can deal with this.

Happy if we add a couple of young exciting players in the knight/Roberts/mehmeti mould like we have been.. in Nige we trust

In an ideal world we could put away fans in the upper Lansdown and then have S82 move to the Atyeo.

    Agreed!

Not so sure tbh.. sound doesn't travel to the rest of the ground from the Atyeo... Away fans are pretty quiet however loud they sing.. its too isolated out on its own.

Don’t know if anyone can help but a friend of mine wants to know the best place pregame on Wednesday to get autographs/selfies with the players as they come in. Where abouts is that possible does anyone know?

Atyeo/Lansdown corner where the busses arrive

Not sure but it is only £10 a ticket (plus fee) and there are nearly all of the tickets left by the look of it when I booked last night, pick any seat you like!

Bought mine today .. still loads left.. anyone have a guess for attendance? 10k?

Sort of agree, but was flat from early on the atmosphere. Oddly subdued.

Not what a big crowd, Opening Day and a renewed sense of optimism should bring after 2 years of downsizing, consolidation and eventually starting to put building blocks in place should bring.

but also agree with this ... was a bit quieter than I thought it would be even in the circumstances

To be fair, and I am not one of the singers or atmosphere generators by any stretch, what we watched was pretty uninspiring.

But the performance, with the atmosphere was like a teenage Disco, where everyone wants to engage, but both are waiting for someone to go first.

Remember the Norwich 1-0 win last season the atmosphere was great.. was the AG8 anniversary so that helped a lot.. but it can be a good ground when it gets going. 'Red Army' chant gets loud and of course it would be nice to sing everyones favourite Alex Scott chant but that situation is what it is. Hopefully a new chant emerges for a player like the Scotty one or the 'HNM hair is massive' chant that gets everybody in the mood to sing.

Got to give us fans a pass though the other day.. neither team had a shot until Belly missed on around 40 mins, was one of the worst half's I've ever watched apart from that! Like not even bad for an opening day just one of the most boring games I've ever seen.

Random example but cant help but think that Brentford's ground looks really soulless and a poor atmosphere waiting to happen if it was a lower mid table championship team's, but people like Gary Neville are always saying how great it is there... personally I think it falls a lot on the fact that Preston North End were clumsily kicking it back to us who couldnt put 2 passes together both sides who have never played in the prem.

Championship football.. can be unpredictable yes but sometimes its very uninspiring.
