Tinnion has sounded increasingly, and slightly unnecessarily, rattled. His tone is so defensive and bordering on out of control - he sounds completely exasperated.

And I don't think Richard Hoskin has been as half as forceful as he could've been.

It’s better than we’ve had before. If RH knows we thought the questioning was better it will give him the confidence to continue. I doubt GT was the same when he began as when he finished .

Owers is pretty straight isn’t he?

Very. Especially after the game yesterday. Thought he continually brought the presenter(can’t remember his name not keen though) back to the question of what we were promised from the Club and what we’re actually seeing. Thought he was great yesterday.
Saw the game exactly like most fans did and wasn’t accepting any old flannel from the presenter.

  3. Having read many of the posts that pick individual players out for comment, there seems to be a common thread running through all of them. ie. People suggesting that many are not being played in their favoured positions.

I think pretty much every player particularly the midfield and wings are not necessarily being played to their strengths. I doubt that will change unless the system changes.

    Yes yes yes.
That was the bit I forgot to add to my post earlier.
He regularly takes 4, 5 or 6 touches before moving the ball on.
Watch the best midfielders in this division, it’s all 1 or 2 touch. Occasionally 3.
Generally the best CM’s in this league take 1 touch to control it and manoeuvre the ball where they want it, and the 2nd touch to pass. It keeps the play uptempo.
TGH slows the game down like no CM I’ve seen before. When he does the 1 and 2 touch stuff he’s fine, but more often than not it’s 4,5 or 6 touches.
It bugs the bloody hell out of me!

There seems to be a few players guilty of that as part and parcel of this footballing style. Mehmeti far too many touches, even Dickie at times, but as said before I think we saw talent in TGH on arrival and some of the things he’s doing now he wasn’t doing originally.
Unfortunately it feels as though there’s a good few players who aren’t performing as they used to.

I think he’s lost confidence, simple as.  Harry and I disagree on him, that’s fine.  Does the way we are currently playing suit him?  No, it doesn’t suit any of our players really.

Agree. You don’t suddenly lose talent. He started well and was talked about on here in a positive way, so he definitely had something. I think along with several others it’s just not clicking for him at present, but that’s a common theme at present.

Yep, that's another way of saying he gets stuck in! :laughcont:

One of the things always makes me laugh is when footballers are described as "cultured" or sometimes having a "cultured left (or right) foot".  Puts me in mind of a football boot holding forth at the opening of some trendy gallery! ;)  However, I know what commentators mean by that.

Joe Williams is not "cultured".  And as such, I think Manning might tell him to curb his riskier instincts and play it safe.

But are we going to chuck on a fire the nearest thing we've got to a midfield enforcer, or criticise the bloke who played Dickie onto goal yesterday?  Some might, but I'm not.

Not me either . He’s the most passionate player by far in every game. Clearly cares about winning and reacts more to situations on the pitch than other players.
If it’s emotionless players LM wants I can’t see JW staying, but I’d have emotion any day. I’d love to see him stay.

Absolutely spot on , supporters are supposed to support, some around me started booing early on , first half was dire but the intention appeared to be to boo at every opportunity, the vitriol on here is incredible, was pissed off as anybody when Nige went but it isn’t Mannings fault , this massive negativity is not helping ‘ flowing football’ as it was obvious from comments and interviews afterwards meant we went out with an intention to do anything to get a result and because of the reaction last week and that the tactics reflected that.

Vitriol’s a bit strong. Comments are hardly malicious or hateful. They’re born out of fans paying a lot of money only to be frustrated week after week.
We all show emotions in various ways and don’t always behave in ways acceptable to all. I don’t find booing helps me and I am sure it doesn’t help the players, but you have to ask why has it come to this.

    Exactly this...

Also amazes me how no one could be arsed to support the team but found the energy to boo 🤔

I never boo. I hate it, but, you don’t really know what fans were doing prior to booing do you. I’m sure most were supporting fans, as they do every time they go to Ashton Gate.  It’s difficult to know how else fans can express their annoyance, anger, etc. at the time?

Just as Joe showed his frustration some fans did too.

I can reassure you that you don't have to worry about the young lads getting bans or being in any sort of trouble. After the match they were skipping happily along making their way to B&M, I'm guessing for a bit of shop lifting.

The stewards however, are probably looking at a 12 month sentence for assault 😏

I know you’re probably joking, but I did worry a bit that the steward needed to be a bit careful (especially nowadays)  in the way he was handling the one boy. The kid was trying to run and the steward needed to use quite a bit of force to keep holding his arm. The boy was twisting his arm, so the steward held on even tighter.

What I don’t get is they seemed to run from the lower South Stand and if they were with parents I don’t understand why it took so long for the one boy to be reunited with a parent, seeing as they were so close to where they got on the pitch . So makes me wonder what adult was with them.

Fantastic player, only fault I can find in him is that occasionally he'll carry the ball a little too long and get himself in a bad position but even then, it's his carrying the ball that often gets our midfield moving and allows him to start attacking plays that aren't always down the wings.

We really do need that engine midfielder who comes to collect and can turn on the ball to create movement forward though, that would really step up our options.

Yes this is what I like about him, his not being afraid to take the ball forward and get people moving up. As you say gives us something other than the wings, occasionally gets in a bit of trouble, but usually sorts it out by himself.

Pring has been injured and at Portman Rd struggled particularly against Burns and I was surprised to see him start again today. He looked decent enough for the first half but visibly tired and eventually got replaced by Roberts - Pring isn’t 100% fit imo - Starting with Roberts and then giving Pring a 20-30 mins run out may have been a better option.

Yeah I agree not fully fit, but there was more than that today in my opinion. Swinging his arms about and just not looking happy.

Yes, TGH didn’t get into the game for 65 mins.  Looks like he’s lacking a bit of confidence, and not wanting to get on the half-turn to receive, instead is going “safe n straight”.

    Or backwards too now 😮

Ok for fans to slag players off for 90mins

but how dare they give a bit back!!!!!

God we have some precious fans

I have to say he did look angry and raised his arms up but I don’t blame him. Just imagine it from his point of view . Would you be happy playing that sort of football and then get fans booing at you to boot?

I’d actually rather see that than no reaction.

As @Davefevs will know from our WhatsApp chats, I’m not a big fan of TGH.
He’s a player with decent technique but I don’t see much more than that.
He’s not very quick. He doesn’t tackle well (he’s often easily manoeuvred past and resorts to attempting to grab or pull or soft fouls). He often switches off in terms of defensive positioning (there’s been a few goals conceded from this lately). He gives the ball away very easily too often - there’s been a few incidents lately where he’s not played the easy pass in an attacking position and the opposition have broken away and had a chance or a goal).
His set pieces are kind of okayish. Not brilliant but acceptable.
He occasionally sees a good forward pass but it’s all too rare and he’s mostly just a very ‘safe’ passer.

Think about this - West Brom were willing to pretty much swap a 22 year old academy product for a 34 year old ageing Weimann.
I think there were some who suggested that West Brom sold because they needed the money - but what’s £1.3m? They could have made that sort of money up in numerous different ways.
Ultimately, Corberan plays a high tempo style and TGH simply didn’t fit. Corberan was happy to sell.
I personally don’t see TGH as a regular in any other top 12 team in this league. Sorry. I think we could have spent that money better.
He’s not a ‘bad’ player by any means, but he is rather ineffective and just very ‘meh’.

I may be mistaken but I thought he showed promise in the first games he played for us? There was certainly a lot of comment about him here and I’m sure he’s dipped a lot lately.
Even he’s started doing the back passing now, that frustrated fans so much.

It just feels at the moment that there’s no one who you think, ah well at least we’ve got so and so who’ll come on and make a difference and I for one felt that about him in the beginning.

For me, possession football needs to be FORWARD INTENT. That move today when we sent 60 yards back and there were boos around the ground shows you that what we are doing isn't working. It's ok for Liam to reference the "negative mood around the place" but when that many people are booing it is usually with good reason. Have a think Liam - could you tweak things and do them slightly differently, be a little bit more forward thinking?

Reset, forwards, sideways, sideways, sideways, reset, forwards, forwards, backwards, sideways, reset and 45 minutes without a single shot is actually PISSING PEOPLE OFF.

Yes and the most telling thing is booing during the game, that speaks volumes. It says a lot that even when you score, you don’t feel like you’re winning.

I'd agree if I saw evidence of him getting a tune out of more than one player in that squad today.

The only one is Mehmeti for me - Conway, TGH, Pring, have regressed since he's come in. But that's merely my observation and therefore an opinion.

Yeah Pring’s body language today was sad to see. He looked completely tired out and fed up. There’s no passion, no ideas, no spontaneity.
We know they have more to offer than that, so it must be frustrating for the players too.

  17. I think it said it all when I actually forgot that we were winning. Yes better second half, but the problem is better, is still really poor.

I think we saw JW suddenly wake up in the second half and that passion of his came to the fore, but really all felt like they were going through the motions. It actually makes me feel quite sorry for the players, it’s like they’re wearing lead boots.

Dickie the best of them today and Joe in the second half and thank goodness they couldn’t make anything of their chances.  Where are the boys who ran through walls?
