I enjoyed the first few podcasts they did but they are dreadfully ill prepared and Jon Parkin really doesn’t have a clue about anything. Plenty better similar shows out there.

I don't mind it but eventually felt that many of the stories were "We went out and got smashed." and so it felt a bit samey after a couple of series. The Kevin Campbell one was good and I like that they have focused on Lower League players.

  2. Good to see this thread here just took me a while to post. As we know people who are struggling can really struggle to access advice about money, housing, services and other helpful information.

It might be helpful to have a list of services and support that are available for people to access in Bristol. I will have a look as there are likely already resources like this, but if not I am happy to put together a small list of organisations I have used and then we can add to it as we go if people feel this would be helpful.

Caring in Bristol actually have a great survival handbook mainly aimed at homeless people but is very useful for this.

    https://caringinbristol.co.uk/project/caring-handbook/

I'd also really recommend the North Bristol Advice centre if anyone has questions about money or benefits - http://www.northbristoladvice.org.uk/

There is also a really good guide on turn 2 us for claiming PIP:

    https://www.turn2us.org.uk/Benefit-guides/Personal-Independence-Payment/What-is-PIP

If there are general questions around access to services and benefits/housing then I'd be happy to help if I can with the caveat that I'm not an expert though have some work and personal experience of both.   Don't always drop into threads so feel free to PM.

I don’t think I’ve ever seen a more inappropriate comparison! How is TM like Tomlin? The latter is more like a poor man’s Gazza - innate talent but too thick to have any self control.

He explained it as he would be to good for league 1, but maybe not make the grade at Championship level.

    That's where the similarity ends.

Tbf I thought that victimless crime comment was obvious as to the context, though may have been better left unsaid

The comments about violence are odd, he’s been convicted at least twice of violent crimes and his career is littered with violence. If that’s their stance and their values why did they employ him in the first place?

Why focus on that point when apparently not wanting to make any comment though? I think they didn't fully understand what that meant and used it to suggest that no crime took place. Regardless they knew the implication of what they said and wanted to throw doubt on the case though apparently didn't want to comment.

They have banned this poster and pretty quickly so fair enough. Awful post and views.

It was originally, but as the thread was about podcasts and nothing specifically political I moved it to here

The first podcast is pretty political and I was particularly interested in what that section of the forum listen too, but fair enough. At least I didn't imagine it. :)

If you like history podcasts then Dan Carlin's "Hardcore History" series is amazing.

They are VERY long episodes (6 hours per episode isn't uncommon!) but are so amazingly detailed.

Yes like the Carlin ones too. His voice is very settling. I struggle with the episode length as I usually listen while going to sleep and lose my track.

  7. Edit - meant to post this in the politics forum. Ah well.

Searched for a thread but couldn't see one yet so thought I'd start one.

I am currently listening to the The Lazarus Podcast which looks at North Korea's attempt to steal $1 billon from Bangladesh. I'm only one episode in but it's fairly good.

    Others that I've enjoyed are:

British History Podcast - Produced by Jamie in America it's a pretty broad look into British History. Currently into 300 episodes and only just getting into 1066. It really encouraged me to look more into pre 800 British History so I owe it a lot.

Revolutions Podcast - Produced by Mike Duncan who also did a Roman Podcast. The Haitian and Mexican Revolutions have been particularly great.

BBC History Extra podcasts - I tend to listen to these on and off. Cover a wide range of subjects. Also History Hit get some good ones in but I can't stand Dan Snow.

    Football Based:

Tifo Football occasionally, OSIB of course, and Undr the Cosh though I found UTC a bit samey after a while.

Realise some of those aren't political but I am always interested in finding more so thought I'd ask the fair minds of OTIB.

Having listened to managers that have experience of going in and changing sinking ships they describe the opposite approach. Go in, build confidence, make it enjoyable in training and every point earned is to be encouraged. It seems Barton is the opposite.

An old Gas friend of mine giving it large on Facebook until I asked what division Darlington were in.

In fairness to them 6-0 is a good result    against any team in professional football.

Still It sets them up nicely for the next fall.

    Are Darlington not semi-pro now?

This has been rumbling on for years and allegedly involves youth players as well at previous clubs

Yeah account on twitter "Craig Branson" constantly posting about it and having digs at DC. Obviously upset someone and maybe a few others.

Shame. He was utter quality as a youth player.

I would have thought that they would have been more upset that this was coming from a "meader", further evidence of their dwindling influence in previously assumed home territory.

There has always been plenty of City in The Mead.
