This is excellent for this thread

new journalist at EP writing a well constructed and researched article

    A good read. Thanks BW.

Echoes the thoughts of some posters. The parts of the jigsaw are being put in place.

Keep the faith. We will have a team to be proud of soon enough. (Not soon enough for some?)

Living in this part of the world i know it took West Ham fans a long time to warm to him and many didn’t want him reappointed so is a much better achievement. Just goes to show some clubs suit certain managers and vice versa. He navigated a tough period where they weren’t playing well and the fans were on his back but slowly turned it round, i saw them a couple of times and they were dire and boring to watch

I see some parallels with Nige here at the moment and hopefully he’ll have the time to have a similar impact

A good friend of mine is a West Ham season ticket holder, and he didn’t want Moyes anywhere near the club second time around. Delighted now though!! I thought it helped that they played without the fans for a while, as pre pandemic it was getting pretty toxic. Gave Moyes time to develop the team without the extra stress/ pressure the fans would’ve brought. I would be surprised if things had worked out as well under normal circumstances.

Pure speculation from me but you wonder if the bottom right (C) is why we now have different coaches.

Could well be. It seems that we are working to align elements a,b,c and figuring which players fit. I’m certain there are several of the first team squad who won’t be here as soon as contracts, the market, ffp allows.

Put in a great shift & alongside Bentley, Kalas, Atkinson & Weimann (who wasn’t as good, but got our 2 vital goals) was a big reason as to why we won.

One point about Simpson though, as the players walked around the pitch afterwards he had his arms around Tanner & was clearly saying to him well done, a good team man, if not the answer now.

    Should have read this!

Perhaps GT’s efforts were enhanced by what happened last week. He has obviously shaken it off during training and proved to NP that he needed to be selected. Then a performance full of determination. Good man management??

At least Bakinson is very good on the ball. Just can get careless. He started last season very well, then was very poor but had a couple of very good games nearer the end of the season. Sheffield Wednesday he ran the show 2nd half as we had 10 men and he scored the equaliser.

But what Bakinson will show up? It's a gamble.

Not picking Scott is a very strange decision imo.

I am still hopeful as Barnsley are doing so badly. We still have to play well and win. If we don't then I think the team sheet will be the main reason for that. But let's see.

So, by your own logic if we play well and win that is also due to the team selection, or will it be because Barnsley are so poor??

Why not have a go at replying to one of my posts?  Tell me on each point why your view is different to mine. The thing is I completely get why you have your view.  You seem to have little inclination to understand why others have a different view to yours.

For info, I didn’t want to get rid of Dean.

Do I have followers?  Whoohoo….how exciting.  Maybe it’s because I articulate my thoughts into posts that allow discussion, rather than think anyone with a different opinion is wrong.

I wait for @Hampshire redsto write a constructive reply to a post where I’ve replied to him / her.

    @Davefevs is the messiah!!

     I should know I’ve followed a few.

  7. Wasn’t Nige’s success at Leicester built around successful recruitment? Identifying a profile of player that he wanted. Young, hungry, room for growth etc. Add Vardy and Mahrez and you’ve got something special.

I think he’s slowly doing that here. Too slowly for many of us, but he is hamstrung by losses due to Covid, FFP and the fact the last regime pissed a windfall away. If you look at the players he has brought in so far they have been a success (relatively). Simpson, King and James to set some standards and steady the ship. Atkinson and Tanner to develop into top players.

There are going to be some bumps. We need time for Nige to bring some players in and for some talented youngsters to develop. I would imagine he is as frustrated as any of us with the way the game finished. That said we were on the wrong side of a number of big calls.

Time for steady heads and to keep the faith.

(However, I am prepared to lose my sh** if we lose to Barnsley)

  8. A certain well respected poster, has decided to wear his lucky green gillet to tonight’s game.

Anyone else have anything lucky to wear / bring to help break this ridiculous run.

Gillet/ pants/ rabbits foot etc. A local shamen to bless / curse in equal measure?

Come on we need to throw everything at this. Tonight’s the night.
