But Somerset will need a 23 point win assuming that it if its a draw at Lords Middlesex could get 13 points in a draw.  They'd then need to produce a wicket that's decent enough for 350 first time around but will allow our bowlers take 20 wickets.. the result pitches of late have given us more like 19-21 points.

Lancs pulling off a incredible result would be rather nice.. come on Jos, put them to the sword tomorrow.

Mmmm. For the first time in my life, and through gritted teeth: "Come on Lancashire".

    (Feel dirty now...)

  2. Not sure Middlesex can do too much to produce a result wicket. Bearing in mind that Yorkshire can still win the Championship and they'll have the choice of what to do first.

For a man like me with dual nationaility (Yorkshire and Somerset) it's what you Bristolians would call a dilemmal.

Somerset have a knack of getting teams 7-8 down and then letting them pile on a decent partnership. I apprecaite there are very few rabbits in county cricket anymore.  Think my frustation comes from getting in the car at Knutsford and listening to the game all the way to where I am now.. in Sunderland. I was in good spirits when those first two fell after lunch.. then it seemed like a million miles till Leach took the next just after tea. I think that interval was damn needed.

Interesting at OT.  Lancs couldn't.. could they?

I wouldn't have thought Lancs will win, but Middlesex are only 115 on so you can't see a declaration much before lunch tomorrow, leaving only 2 sessions to get Lancs out. Surely even Lancs could survive that....

Every ****ing game.  Can they ever finish a side off easily.

We'll probably let them get 150 lead and lose.

Relax for goodness sake, it'll be fine. Although given that you support City and Somerset I can understand you must be a bag of neuroses and disappointments.

Having been born in Yorkshire and being a lifelong supporter I still want them to do well. But, if Somerset do manage it this year would be great - it's ridiculous they've never won the Championship and they've deserved it on a fair few occassions.

Maybe it's just a training scheme for young Wael.

His family, despairing of him not having a proper job and just hanging around the house all day, asked him what he wanted to do and he said "I want to run Chelsea football team mummy".

Well his family had a meeting at 7pm after he'd gone to bed with his milk and biscuits and decided that there was no way that they were going to risk a huge chunk of the family money by buying Chelsea and letting little Wael run it so they decided that they would instead buy him a pretend Chelsea for a few quid for him to play with and which would let him wear a suit to football dos and meet his Chelsea heroes.

Young Wael was given the news the next day and was so excited he packed all of his Chelsea FC underpants into a suitcase and rushed off to Bristol.

No, that's not it. What the young lad asked for was a cowboy outfit. The rest, as they say, is history....

You know what it's like... one day you're playing in front of 8,000 people at Bristol Rovers, the next you're representing your country at the Euro 2016 semi-finals.

That's the story of Portuguese defender Jose Fonte, who has been at Southampton since 2010 and helped them go from League One to the Premier League.

"I’ve been down in League One and to be playing a semi-final means the world to me," he said. "It’s hard to understand everything that’s happening. It’s unbelievable."

So, playing Bristol Rovers at the Mem appears to be the low point of his footballing life. Not wrong is he?

  7. Would highly recommend a visit to Taunton. Was there for the Tuesday v Yorkshire and must say the new stand looks brilliant.

That said, really do think they could do with producing wickets that give a decent chance of a result rather than the usual batsmans' paradise. Yorkshire are historically a much stronger county anyway but Headingley has always produced results and Taunton hasn't. Would love Somerset win the County Championship but can't see it as long as the current Taunton wickets persist.

Well done Surrey, that dark horses title is going well. You useless shites.

Bad luck for Surrey to run into Yorkshire with their Test players available. Will be a different team that take the field at Taunton next week. Looking forward to a good day or two at the County Ground and a win for God's County. They do a cracking lunch in Taunton and there's a cider bar as well! Much to be recommended....

Indeed. According to a very old Irish lady I used to know you should always have a good pair of shoes and a good bed - if you're not in one you're in the other.

  10. All is apparently not well with the long standing show biz marriage of Mickey and Minnie Mouse.

So bad have things got that Mickey has, according to reports, visited a top LA divorce attorney.

After Mickey had told his side of the story the lawyer give his opinion:

"I'm sorry Mr Mouse, you simply cannot divorce your wife Minnie simply because you say she has buck teeth".

An angry Mickey replied: "I didn't say she had buck teeth, I said she's f'ing Goofy."

  11. I heard I nice thing about our gaseous friends yesterday. Was playing golf against someone who is a long standing Rovers supporter but now only goes very occassionally. He remembers going to Eastville for a game v Newport County but was (understandably) disgusted to hear Rovers' supporters singing about Aberfan. Possibly the lowest thing I've heard of at football...

Unfortunately, I see City staying up too (banter lads!)- we could well go up as well.

Whatever, I am pretty sure none of the gas would stoop so low as to paint the gates of Ashton Gate as I'm told some City idiots did (red obviously) recently at the mem...

Indeed, it's impossible to punch a horse if you're stooping. Anyway, I'm sure that if you'd been successful in stealing the ground in the 80s you'd have painted it...

Thoughts on the banning of the toss?

Good idea on balance, I think. It will stop counties taking a chance and fiddling wickets to their own advantage. The downside might be that we get more flat tracks designed not to do too much for 4 days and a lot of draws as a result. Worth a go for a year maybe....

  14. Our limited overs teams are very much a work in progress at the minute though. Great place for Fisher, Carver et al to learn the game though and there was improvement in both 50 and 20 over cricket this season IMO

Just need England to stop pinching all our players and we'll get a clean sweep!

PS fair play to Glos though, Klinger and Marshall were excellent and I think their bowlers did well to check Yorkshire after the start Lyth gave us

After the start we had I thought we were heading for 300-320, so much credit goes to Glos for pulling that back. The headlines will go to Klinger, but the Glos bowlers deserve much credit. Never thought that Yorkshire take the one day game, and in particular 20-20 all that seriously.

Having sat through the Ashes series am sure the rise of the 20 over game is destroying 'proper' cricket.  I lost count of the number of times that a team needed a batsman to occupy the crease and accumulate runs. It didn't really happen and I think I'm correct in saying that no match got to a fifth day. Maybe that's what spectators want these days....

  15. Don't want to tempt fate but Glos looking good against the Yorkies

This is like watching Barcelona getting turned over by Forest Green Rovers. Grrr!

A good performance by Glos though and Klinger in particular. .

Well done and good luck in the final (through gritted teeth, obviously).

  16. Anyone else really enjoying the game at Headingley at the mo? I think it's great...

In all seriousness, I don't want Somerset to go down, but Yorks are just unstoppable at the minute. If one player fails someone else steps up. And all this has been achieved this season without the worlds number 1 batsmen for pretty much any of it

The current Yorkshire team are going to be dominant for a few years yet I'm happy to say. They're starting to put me I'm mind of the 60s team that I used to watch as a kid - Trueman, Close Illingworth, Boycott, John Hampshire, Phil Sharpe, Jimmy Binks etc..

Still hoping Somerset survive though - a good gang down there and Taunton is a great place to go to watch cricket imo. I think they will (just).
