The early rounds of this competition have always been poorly attended Eddie, even before the introduction of under 21 teams.

If there was a final where hardly anyone showed up that would send a message to the FA. If Rovers do get to the final and their fans want to go then fair enough, that’s up to them, but they can’t then complain if they find themselves playing our youngsters competitively in a few years time.

Maybe the message the FA would get would see them scrapping the competition entirely. Not a bad thing IMO.

Would prefer to see the EFL Cup just for EFL clubs, i.e. not the Premiership sides.

Bristol played 4 and won 2 are still a point behind Harlequins who have played 4 and lost 3, i'm sorry I still don't get that.

    From the Premiership Rugby website:

4 points for a win, 2 points for a draw.

Bonus points: 1 point to a team that loses a match by 7 points or less, 1 point to a team scoring 4 tries or more in a match.

"Resolution of allotment of securities"  - this document has been filed at Companies House, but is not yet available to view. Can any of the accountancy experts on here please explain what this may entail?

They're thinking about allowing people to grow carrots and cabbages on the Memorial Stadium 'pitch' and are worried that someone might break in.

But Wally`s going to have a word with his brother and has no doubt that his request for further essential funds will be granted.

He needs a bit more pocket money to do his Christmas shopping down Oxford Street.

.... but it's not that long ago that the family bought him a cowboy outfit for Christmas.

To be fair, I think that has been a problem for us as well. Finishing above the gas was acceptable. Now it's a given, we have finally moved on but I do think that's one of the reasons for our mediocrity in the past.

I'm glad we've finally got away from the 'better than them is success' but it's taken a very long time to get out of that mindset TBH.

    Onwards and upwards!

Are you sure? Always find it a bit odd that one of the most frequently sung songs is 'Stand up if you hate the Gas'. Then there's this thread and it's massive predecessor. Obsessive, you could say...

Saw a stat that if Middlesex had scored just 7 more runs across 2 games, they'd have got 2 more points - they made 247 against Surrey and 246 against Essex where 250 would have got an extra point.

... and if Somerset hadn't taken off the spinners in the home match against Yorkshire and Yorkshire had got 4 less runs as a result then Somerset would have had 16 points more and Yorkshire 16 points less.

3-0 and a sending off at Wigan is a good result for the scum. 20 years ago they lost 3-0 at the old Springfield Park and got three red cards. ;)

EDIT: Sorry, four red cards. It's hard to keep track - I'm sure they would've had 20,000 red cards locked out as well.

Remember that well. At the next City home game a new song appeared:

11 men went to play, went to play at Wigan

11 men, 10 men, 9 men, 8 men, 7 men went to play at Wigan

****king idiot. Why not just nudge it around.

A mistake certainly, but not where Somerset lost it IMO.

Was at Taunton yesterday watching Bess and Leach easily running through the Yorkshire second innings. By the time Yorkshire were 8 down 7 of the eight wickets had gone to the spinners (Craig Overton had the other). Instead of keeping going with the spinners they took the new ball and brought on a seam attack. Result was that the Yorkshire 9th wicket put on an easy 50 with no problems. Spinners eventually brought back on and brought the innings to a close leaving Ballance stranded on 98. A very stupid decision by Somerset that cost a completely unnecessary 40 runs or so and eventually the match.

Other thing I should mention was the form of Trescothick - look completely out of form, several near misses before being out for 7 and head down, shambling his way back to the pavilion. Looked very low on confidence to me - sad to see, because he's been a fantastic servant.

  9. This is awful. Every week I look forward to reading Hava's reviews - always interesting, always full of enthusiasm. The mood around the club now seems to have gone beyond anger. Just sadness, and by the time it's hitting good folk like Hava something is dreadfully wrong. SL should open his eyes and see what is happening. The club is losing people by the  bucket load at the moment. I won't be there today, or listening - I'll be playing golf. Hope the boys win today, but don't have any expectation at all. Just sad.

Freeman and Matthews seem to work well together with Matthews overlapping well. At least the impression I got from Brentford, they were our main creative outlet.

Agree with that but it's the other side that's the worry. If we're playing Tomlin on the left we'd be better with a good defensive left back (Golbourne) imo. Also, will be interesting to how Brownhill goes today - very much an unknown quantity. It might well work, who knows? Here's hoping....

So Leeds United came sniffing but this young and up and coming manager was given an upped offer and contract. So what exactly has young Mr Clarke done?  Taken Rovers from Division Two to the Conference and brought them back up again .. a quick promotion to Division One and now they're coming down again... And superb FA Cup results  ... Chesham and Barrow .. not a great deal really then (awaiting moderation of course).

Much as I don't like him or them I would have thought 2 consecutive promotions was a decent achievement. Don't think he could be blamed too much for the basket case he inherited.

That said, he's now callling for investment in the squad in January so that, with UWE, is going to be interesting. Am sure that Wally has wealth on paper - whether he's got enough liquid cash is the question. Methinks not and the truth will out fairly soon. More fun to come for us, IMO.

We'd do the same I have no doubt but yes it's close to matchfixing really!

Not at all. Match fixing is where there is some agreement to achieve a particular result. All Middlesex and Yorkshire did was get to a position where a declaration was possible and a result could be achieved for either side based on good, hard, fair cricket. All cricket teams do it, including Somerset. Don't see the point of all the sour grapes tbh.

Somerset have had a good season and a brilliant last two games. Their basic trouble was that they didn't do enough earlier on in the season and only went into the last round of games in third place. Middlesex have been at the top for most of the season, the best team and fully deserve their Championship.
