  1. I haven't looked, but it must be a club that that have beaten the likes of Harrogate, Sutton and Saltford. Probably a club with a long history that's been in all of the top 5 divisions but with recent time way down low.

    I'm guessing Luton Town.

To be fair did he actually save that penalty? I swear it hit the post.

Love the bloke though. I kinda get the ‘average’ sentiment even if I don’t necessarily quite agree. Out of all of our keepers he was clearly well above average but he wasn’t incredible, just a great bloke and a top influence on the club.

You are right, it did hit the post. I remember Basso coming out, offering a handshake to Watson, blessing him, taking an age to get back to his line and then stopping to offer up a prayer.  Am fairly sure all this didn't exactly help Watson.

Incidentally, it was later reported that he said that he had prayed to Holy Ghost, who had apparently told him to go to his right. No ordinary bloke was Basso.

A hero would’ve been saving a penalty in a championship play off final and getting promoted.

A cult hero is being remembered so fondly by almost all city fans despite being “average”*

*he wasn’t average by the way

There was the penalty in the semi play off final though...

And, lest we forget, he did a lot to help turn round Bradley Orr when he was going through bad times.

That whole team were legends in my eyes and Basso was a key part of it.. it was a a time when all the players and supporters seemed together. Great days.

I’ve been to watch Inverness a couple of times - the scenery around the area is incredible

Yup, loads to be recommended around there. Culloden, Nessie and, as you say, stunning scenery.

I've occasionally seen someone in the Dolman who wears a Callie wooly hat. Possibly considered summer-wear in Inverness.

    Worse?
Palmer £3.5m, huge wages, we still can’t get rid,

Engvall £2m, striker who never scored a goal for us, sold 2 years later for £200k.

Adelakun, Watkins, Walsh, Wells, El-Abd, Ryan Fredericks, Hegeler, Geifer, Diony, O’Neill, Jody Morris, Richard Foster, Mark Wilson, Gilmartin, Brunt, Nicky Hunt, Styvar.

    That enough for you?

Hell's bells, that's some list. Well done for winning the argument, but I'd been trying to forget that lot - thanks a bunch!

I would hazard a guess he still fully supports Putin.  He’s just trying to get as much of his “dirty” money out as possible.

Indeed, and if he is still close to Putin then the very fact that he is selling fast probably means that we are in for a long haul over Ukraine (and maybe even other places).

The absurd truth, of course, is that he can comfortably afford to write that amount of wealth off.

Yes, although think this is about him trying to get something for Chelsea before the whole thing gets seized. Bit of a fire sale in truth.

I wonder what skeletons he has in his closet to give up £1.5bn, just like that...

I'm not sure he's said that he's writing the debt off, but not asking for it to be repaid. Whether that's for ever or not who knows.

My general position is that, if a Nation is banned from sport or even from just one competition, then the ban applies to both the Nation and its competitors, without exception, so forget this nonsense of allowing athletes to compete under a new name and neutral flag, e.g. ROC.

On this occasion, however, I do have some empathy, perhaps even sympathy for the IPC and, in particular, for the athletes themselves.

As you say, it is likely the athletes themselves are apolitical and, of course, most of them would probably have already arrived in China to prepare before the horror of Russia's intervention in Ukraine began.

My overriding thought, though, is that we are talking about a small number of athletes only, who, by definition of the name of Games in which they are competing, have already suffered in their personal lives, and I think that, notwithstanding the action of their Country being taken in their name, we can afford them some compassion.

But then it allows the Putin regime to say to his public that our athletes are still welcome. I understand that the IOC say that they try to keep politics out, but they are bound to fail - the Olympics have a track record of being used for political propaganda purposes and there are more than enough examples.

From the way Pearson’s talking wouldn’t be surprised if he jumps before he’s pushed. He’s clearly unhappy with what’s going on behind the scenes.

Yup, certainly looks like the beginning of the end to me. Might take a while but unfortunately I think we'll eventually look back on this as when Nige's stay started to unravel. I doubt that JL has said anything that SL doesn't agree with.

Despite all the good that has been done I despair of the Lansdowns at times.

'Appen some of them might live in Devon. Kudos to those that don't though!

Oi, pack it in yer wazzock!

    'Appen?

Nobody says 'appen in Harrogate. Nobody wears a flat cap. Whippet racing is unknown.

Harrogate, let me tell you , is a genteel spa town, Georgian architecture. sweeping crescents etc.. Posh. All cream teas by the piano - that sort of place.

I grew up in the dark satanic mills part of Yorkshire and, to be fair, you will hear people say "appen there.

As an aside to this ramble I did have a mate whose family moved to Harrogate. The mother, trying to fit into Harrogate society, bought a set of fish knives and forks, which were first used to eat fish fingers. (True story sadly).

Oh well, enough from me. Consider yerself told off - I'm off to feed me ferret.

Dunno if its me, but they dont seem to have many regs, like the coopers on non football days.

I used to work 2 doors down from the sun in the 90s when pat ran it.

Was a well used pub on non match days then, plenty of regs.

I could get my wife's Uncle Reg to go if that would help.

Have any of the Ex Leicester boys been a success?

Think both James and King have been ok when available and fit although injuries have been a big issue, so probably not is just playing terms.

That said, I would hope that both are a huge help in developing our young midfielders who have all come on well this year: Massengo, Scott and Benerous certainly not looking too shabby.
