Quite, although I got my hopes raised for a second. More chance of Lord Lucan romping home in the Grand National on Shergar.

Ridiculous - Shergar has only ever raced on the flat.

  2. Huddersfield - was born up there, they were the first team I saw and have no option. Btw, always very good prices from them. I paid £10 for my geriatric ticket on Saturday and they're only charging £20/£10 for their playoffs..  (Also think we need to do their half time penalty thing - hilarious).

  3. The other thing about us is that we don't have many close fixtures, at least nothing like some areas. If that table was on man-miles travelled (I know that's a very nerdy idea) then I'm sure we'd be much higher. All credit to those that travel regularly - very expensve and not at all easy. Well done chaps and chapesses - the team certainly appreciate your efforts!

It's not Shakespeare's birthday today. Nobody knows when he was born, but it's generally celebrated on St George's Day, not the day after.

As for the rest of your post, nobody has told you to shut up and sit down. Nobody has said you can't celebrate the day. This weird need to feel like a victim is bizarre.

It is known that it was around now. He was baptised on the 26th,.at a time when people were baptised shortly after birth. That said, it is always celebrated today.  What is definitely known is that Shakespeare died on the 23rd April.

History does not record whether Shakespeare had opened his presents or blown his candles out before he died.

Really don't understand this - we would only be 3 points from the drop if they hadn't had points deducted.

Then again, if Derby and Reading hadn't got the players they managed to keep though financial rule breaking where would they be? Much worse off I reckon.

Nigel Pearson has managed to get through the season with no threat of the drop whilst slashing costs. Unfortunately for us it looks like he'll have repeat the trick next year.

Well done to him - think we're in very good hands and I hope he's here for the opportunity to build a competitive  team.

Very interesting, especially the bottom right hand corner.

I had two lines left, with only the second letter missing, and chose a smelly American animal as my last but one choice.

I hesitated for what seemed an eternity before completing my final guess, thinking surely not, but it was the only possibilty left.

Ha! Never forget that It's American, so that word means something else. You sometimes get words like color and savor on Wordle - always worth bearing in mind.

I once remember watching some US TV programme with my mother. One of the characters said that she liked it when her husband patted her on the fanny. The expression on my poor mother's face was priceless...

Bears is being driven by the bloke at the top who is in control. The man the Lansdowns trust because they know they know nothing about Rugby and listen to Chris Booy who does know and he told them to appoint Pat Lam.   Turn up every now and then to watch and that's about it.  There's also a nice salary cap that keeps expenditure in check and more money taken on matchdays as supporters can drink in their seats.  It probably makes a profit overall or at least doesn't haemorrhage money.

Unlike football, with which SL has been involved for 20 years, and hasn't delegated anywhere near as much control.  He thinks he knows the game.  He also knows that financially it's insane so he wants to keep financial control but this slipped recently, having let the club be 'cuckoo'ed' by a bluffer.  He used to tell him what he wanted to hear though.  Not like this Pearson chap who is beginning to remind him of that awful Cotterill that he let Keith appoint.

One of the little noticed factors has been the departure of Keith Dawe. Not a man for public displays, but quietly, sensibly and competently going about his business under the radar. When SL went to Guernsey Keith Dawe has there to keep an eye on things for Steve and be a mentor for JL. Not sure of how Keith's health is these days but think we've definitely missed him and could do with someone similar as Chairman (if not the man himself).

Fair point Joe. Ave wage in the Prem is 60k so that was just an example. Judging by yesterday's performance we  need at least at least 6 new players to compete in the Championship!

My original point about SL not being able to afford the Prem, I still stand by though. Its why he is looking for additional financial input into the club.

Prem is a long way off for this club though. Div 1 looks more likely at present.

Agree with all that, but why on earth should anyone put money into the club if SL is still the final decision maker?

And, by the way, what would they by putting money in?  Just football? Just the ground? Bristol Sport? Bears? Basketball? The thing seems to be unsaleble to me as a whole and the individual sports elements uninvestable.

    A gurt mess...

That might not be 100% verbatim but he basically said, get rid of me, you'll still have the same problem.

Yup, and he ain't wrong. Can't believe the Owner and Hereditary Chairman are going to take too kindly to it though. We might be in the end game for Nigel Pearson now. Rinse and repeat.

  11. I haven't looked, but it must be a club that that have beaten the likes of Harrogate, Sutton and Saltford. Probably a club with a long history that's been in all of the top 5 divisions but with recent time way down low.

    I'm guessing Luton Town.

To be fair did he actually save that penalty? I swear it hit the post.

Love the bloke though. I kinda get the ‘average’ sentiment even if I don’t necessarily quite agree. Out of all of our keepers he was clearly well above average but he wasn’t incredible, just a great bloke and a top influence on the club.

You are right, it did hit the post. I remember Basso coming out, offering a handshake to Watson, blessing him, taking an age to get back to his line and then stopping to offer up a prayer.  Am fairly sure all this didn't exactly help Watson.

Incidentally, it was later reported that he said that he had prayed to Holy Ghost, who had apparently told him to go to his right. No ordinary bloke was Basso.

A hero would’ve been saving a penalty in a championship play off final and getting promoted.

A cult hero is being remembered so fondly by almost all city fans despite being “average”*

*he wasn’t average by the way

There was the penalty in the semi play off final though...

And, lest we forget, he did a lot to help turn round Bradley Orr when he was going through bad times.

That whole team were legends in my eyes and Basso was a key part of it.. it was a a time when all the players and supporters seemed together. Great days.
