Doesn't sound like much enthusiasm for his current deal/offer but as long as he keeps up his levels and maybe improves a bit am sure he'll get a better deal. "We'll see what happens" sounds like he's open to staying longer for the right deal.

... and on a similar theme I remember that the players gave Scotty the nickname of Abdul for a short time when he came back for the new season with a deep sun tan.

Out of interest, did you pick up on Kellen Fisher (#35) the Bromley RB / RWB?  Getting a bit of attention from PL Scouts allegedly.

... forgot to add he was very good going forward as well and he's got a decent pass in him. As I've already said Bromley should have been 3 up in the first 15 minutes. All the trouble was coming down the right, including the set up for the early goal.

Highlights (but bear on mind Yeovil have also got a player called Fisher to confuse things):

Yes, he looked good - always positioned well and never beaten. Always difficult to tell - he was up against an opponent who had reasonable skills but always came inside before running into traffic. Not once was he tested by someone trying to get down the line. (Shumumni himself was that side as well and he looked better than National League standard).

Enjoyed watching Bromley but Yeovil weren't much of a test.

  6. Went to see Yeovil vs Bromley last weekend. Yeovil were dreadful. A couple of decent players and a number of new signings that hadn't even trained together, let alone played together. Defence look like they'd never met, going forward had no energy and carried no threat. Bromley should have been 3 up after 15 minutes.

Mark Cooper said afterwards in his interview that the new owner was buying the players he wanted (the owner that is).

Sadly, relegation looking very likely - a pity for the very pleasant fans I was sat with.

(On the bright side £5 in, good pasty and Bromley had a player called Shuwumni, which brought back the odd memory).

Yup, you don't need to get into the wrong part of that city. Driving around Naples is fun as well - lunatics who think red traffic lights are only advisory. Won't go back.

I appreciate its good to finish as strongly as possible, but do we actually want to be in the playoffs? I mean, would we want to get promoted with a squad that has spent half the season closer to the relegation zone?

I think I’d rather finish about tenth with a view to another improvement next season. If by chance we got promoted in the playoffs now, I suspect next season would be utter humiliation.

Am sure the same could have been said of Forest last year and they're now 13th in the Prem.

Opportunities don't come often and whenever the next happens it will be difficult.

Not likely we'll do it this year but if we can we should make the most of it. If we don't then we could end up losing some good young players and the cycle starts again.

    Sooner the better for me.

This is a deal that feels right to me for everyone, notwithstanding Bajic going on loan.

Wether you think Max or Bents are better, Max has the shirt and Nige shows no sign of taking it off him. As a result Bentley is an expensive sub, absent injury.

By selling (and getting a fee) we get more than we anticipated a couple of weeks ago when the Stoke loan was mooted. A fee and wages off bill for a reserve has to be good.

For Dan, he goes to the prem and probably gets an equal or better contract. Reading the Wolves forums they’re unconvinced by the current keeper so may be an unexpected opportunity to get in a premier league side and establish himself.

Long term, I remain unconvinced by Max. I don’t think he’s the answer at this level and would like a new number 1 in the summer, but in the here and now, the deal makes all round sense.

Good luck to Dan if he goes - as you say right for everybody.

I share your reservations on Max and curse the day we let Maenpaa go. Hope we've got a loan keeper lined up as back up.

I think the clubs growing connection with the past is a massive part of who we are. Nothing tinpot about celebrating your history, however small or less significant it is in comparison to your peers.

We should be proud of who we are and our past. It's ours.

I'd much rather we fixed ourselves on having a better future and celebrating something significant than clinging to the odd good day. 'Too easily satisfied' would be s good club motto for us.

Taking about a one off win as if it was a pinnacle of our clubs history is why we will never progress.  Yes, it was a fantastic night no doubting it, but to still be celebrating it 5 years later…..well.
So many equivalent teams have done so much better than us over the last twenty years - Cardiff - League Cup final, Championship title, 2 seasons in the Premier League.  Wigan - 8 seasons in the Prem, won the FA Cup as well as reaching another semi losing on pens, European football. Swansea - 8 years in the Prem and won the League Cup. Pompey in the Prem and Europe.  Brentford ripping up the Prem at the moment.   The list goes on and on.  We need to up our expectations.

Agree with all that but would add the win at Anfield 30 years ago. Every time I walk past that wall in the South Stand celebrating that win and Tinnion's goal I think the same thing - Tinpot.

Very much doubt that was Cotts' preferred way of doing things without being asked to from above.

If not from SL, maybe JL?

It was no skin off Cotts' nose to put Carey on for a few late sub appearances to break the record if, in doing so, it generated what the club felt would be much needed good publicity.

    Always rankled with me though.

Yup, thought it was very poor - particularly the last appearance which had him larking about in midfield for a few minutes.

No doubt Atyeo appeared for many more minutes that Carey and therfore always the leader for appearances to my eye.

Come off it - how many times has there been a full body search of supporters before a game? Imagine what it would involve during the winter. People opening their coats and then having a pat down of their body to ensure nothing is hidden. I’ve been going to the grown since the 60s and that has never happened. The closest was occasional I was asked to open my coat, which didn’t prove much as I could easily have had a concealed flare

Clearly searching to that level can't work practically. The only way of stopping this is for good CCTV and very large punishments. Bans that aren't at all well enforced don't seem to do much either. If someone let one of these things off in Broadmead am sure the police would be involved and there would be criminal charges. Don't see why this should't be the case in a densely packed football stadium.

I’ve been in the Nige out camp for a little while (Lincoln in the cup scarred me) but I WANT to be swayed. I like him and I want it to work out. Beats the hell out of a Cardiff esque manager merry-go-round. A few more good results in the league and I’ll be over the moon to be eating a whole humble pie.

More on topic - the music thing is a great comment. Let’s bother the Jack ********.

Not an English folk song bit can I suggest Hit The Road Jack?

I doubt that suits his ego and the opportunity to leave some kind of legacy though. The Sporting Quarter, with all teams part of Bristol Sport,  very much fits the bill?

I'm sure that's true as well but, and I'm sorry to be brutal here, Steve's ego will die with him when the time comes. Not sure that Jon has the ability or even inclination to take on what Steve has built and would think that Steve knows this and won't want to leave his remaining family with problems. I think it's what native Bristolians call a dilemmal. I hope Steve manages to work all this out and lives many years yet - he's done many great things for the club and the city and his legacy is already secure IMO.

If it takes good performances to create positivity you are, quite literally, a customer.

Performances have been for the most part significantly better despite the myriad of challenges we have faced post covid. But its actually results rather than performances that seem to matter. Again, customers.

Lincoln was a dark day for this club. Not because we lost in a meaningless cup game with a young and inexperienced side. No, because our fans booed a 20 year old kid on his home debut because he made two mistakes in 20 minutes that got punished. In 25 years of going to Ashton Gate I've never felt more ashamed and downbeat about what the terrace culture at my club has become. So you know. Perhaps the mirror is good place for us all to start?

Nail on the head. The sense of entitlement from some of our so called supporters is ridiculous.

Jon Lansdown was originally present and interested. He has become uninterested in the last few years. I guess failure and constant attacks (some founded) can make you yearn for the playboy lifestyle that you could have.

As far as for Jons involvement with other Lansdown ventures who knows, but it’s pretty clear SL had to let something go. It’s unfortunate that we are where we are. As one of our Sag posters implied the other day. There are about 80 clubs that would be celebrating for a month to have SL safeguarding the future, and let’s face it, he is the second most successful principle after HD.

Steve has turned 70 and is, I believe, starting to think about what he is leaving behind him. At the moment City are a club that requires regular large injections of capital and a lot of financial expertise in managing his large and complicated portfolio. Maybe he's reached the conclusion that he can't just expect Jon to take sole control or handle a sale and is looking or someone to come in.  Perhaps his best route in attracting an investor will be to split the Bristol Sport empire up into saleable chunks. Wouldn't surprise me in the least, and if that happens there could be very nervy times ahead for the football club.
