  1. Doesn't seem to be very effective, as well as dragging Kalas out of position - he should either be back in defence, or in their area being a threat.

That said we could do so much better with throw ins -  I have posted this but Klopp has employed a specialist throw in coach at Liverpool and he has produced some amazing results.

On the positive side, I believe that the shop will be doing Kalas autographed bath towels for Christmas.

I think the clue is the word ‘news stories’.

I can read your posts - if I wanted commentary or analysis.

I am not suggesting Piercey is not a good writer, or shouldn’t publish his view. I am arguing against the description of it as ‘top journalism’

as the local sports editor his job it is to move the story on - to find out information that is not currently in the public domain. To create clarity out of what is a very uncertain situation.

Spot on, I think. The article, whilst it is well written, doesn't actually break any news. It is a long rebuttal of the wild speculation that appeared on various social media platforms. If anybody bought some or all of the speculation then fair enough this article was news. Not everybody did though - sometimes we just don't know.

you cant sack someone when off sick

Not that simple. If he's no longer capable for doing the job you can. If he's not employed but on a contract it would depend on tbe terms of the contract. Lots of opinions on here, but unless someone has detailed knowledge of his terms and conditions it's all pointless speculation.

One of the things that puzzled me about Gould’s 2 interviews, (club one on YouTube & GT on Radio Bris) was his comment that our wage bill should see us “in contention for top six”.

    This surprised me for 2 reasons;

Firstly I’m pretty sure it was stated we cut our wage bill by a third in the summer when we released 13 first team players & also persuaded Weimann & Baker to take big reductions to stay.

Secondly I don’t know the exact number, but there are a fair few teams with parachute payments & clearly Bournemouth, Sheff U, WBA & Fulham to name but 4, will pay wages completely out of our league.

Is he really saying that after these 4 we pay more (or comparably) with the likes of Forest, Boro, QPR, Cardiff?

I noticed that as well and was surprised to say the least, but it would seem that he did.

So you think RG is being economical with the truth?

No, think Gould just doesn't know enough to give a definite answer at this stage. Difficult position for the club. A fit Pearson coming back would be good, but after two bouts of Covd and Long Covid there are no guarantees. Maybe some interim help would be a good idea.

We’ve gone through a pandemic which not only means we’ve lost ticket sales from last season but also the training ground took up a lot of money. That’s the reason for the low spending

Not sure that training ground spending counts towards FFP. Think our problem is more about what has happened over the last 3 years, made worse by Covid.

  7. The appointment of Nigel Pearson looked to me like the club was at last starting to address some fundamental issues. I was optimistic.

Having closely watched events on and off the pitch this season I can see that the club is in a very bad way and it's due to years of mismanagement from the very top. Sadly, I can see neither the ability nor any real ambition to change.

The Lansdowns selling up doesn't seem likely or even possible - the Bristol Sport organisation far too complicated to attract someone just interested in football.

The Lansdowns staying, with their model of selling anybody decent to keep solvent, doesn't look likely to bring any hope of a better future either.

Maybe I'm just told old know but just don't see a way to better prospects - and a football club like ours is in real trouble when hope has disappeared. Perhaps it's time for me to find something else to do with my Saturdays.

Jon has been given the football club to play with while Steve concentrates on the Rugby.  Trouble is that Jon now wants another toy because this ones broken. Dad wont help him mend it so Jon is having a sulk somewhere.  This is tongue in cheek mind.

One Christmas Steve asked young Jon what he would like.

'A cowboy outfit, father' was the young lad's reply.

    The rest is history...

He diluted the value of supporter shares by issuing more and buying them up.

He owns 99% of the club shares. He truly can do what he wants.

Indeed, and if he wanted to force a sale on the rest he could. City are now part of Bristol Sport and the whole thing seems completely unsaleable. The Lansdowns will be with us for as long as they want. No other opinion matters. Everybody should just get used to it.

He absolutely detested it here though, and I've heard that from people who would know, so it might be one of those chicken and egg situations.

Sorry to ask (and I know I know it's not relevant to the thread, so apologies) but do chickens detest eggs?

    Bloody substitutes ?

Back in my day you had to stay on and play on unless you'd been carted off to A&E in the back of your mates van.

Quite right too - no subs for me.  Bert Trautmann even played on in a Cup Final with a broken neck. Don't remember players having ham strings or metatarsals then either.

This will get taken as fact…..but I reckon we could spend increase costs by £20m (combo of fees, wages etc) in January.  I project we are inside FFP by that amount, but as soon as 18/19s profit drops out of the reporting cycle we are stuffed!  Hence we are being careful now.

I find it difficult to believe that no allowance is being made within FFP rules for the consequences of Covd and in particular the shortfall in normal income due to Covid. Meanwhile, parachute payments continue - which always were unfair but now made even more so by Covd losses.
