  1. Thought Foden, Kane and Bellingham did well.

Now for the negatives…where to start. Clearly all has to go back to Southgate. He has seemingly lost the plot and taken us backwards over the past 6 months. What I liked about him on the tournament runs was that he was able to get the players and fans to care about international football again after the shambles of 2016. But he has always been out of his depth in the big moments - tactically outclassed. Nice guy and clearly managed to motivate (until now) but lacks a lot in other departments as a manager. Problem we now have the is the timing. They won’t get rid of him before the WC due to how close it is and the 2 previous tournaments. Real shame we have to write off a tournament with the players we have so late.

On the players…was Sterling drunk? Couldn’t control it. Saka looked uncomfortable. Pope couldn’t kick the ball to any of our players. Dier did ok but he’s not the level we need. Maguire looked ok too but he is way off any kind of 2018-2020 form. We missed Stones a lot. Rice was ok but not as good as he has been. James didn’t offer anywhere near enough which was frustrating as the ability is there. Thought Grealish looked good when he came on but that’s the same every time with him - never offers anything when he starts sadly.

Feel depressed after that! At least we weren’t held in the ground too long after.

  2. It’s much fairer than a free for all by queuing at the ground. Why shouldn’t those who go to all away games get more of a chance of a ticket? There is never a perfect system but this is pretty good.

If they brought back in person at sales at the ground there would be 99.9% unhappiness. I think you need to move into the 21st century.

  3. Nothing should be cancelled - it’s crackers they are even considering it. If you don’t want to go tomorrow then don’t go but the vast majority will and are happy to crack on whilst paying their respects before the game etc. Wont achieve anything by cancelling except hacking a load of people off who many have made plans and spent money etc.

Personally I think the royal family is an outdated concept etc but happy for it to continue as long as they bring in more in tourism etc than they cost (ie the taxpayer benefits and doesn’t really affect my life).

Perusing the BRs forum and the various opinions about where they are, which players they rate or don’t rate, the managers decisions getting questioned is just like any other club forum, including positive and negative views on the opposition - just as otib is………Football supporters are pretty much all the same regardless of which club they support.

    Once again - fascinating insight.

xG often gets mis-used to say that a team "should" have won a game or such. However, if you want to consider attacking effectiveness or threat as a whole and across many games, then it's about the best metric we've got. I'm quite happy to look at images like the one posted by @HappyClapper and at tabels and graphs that show xG, and say that yeh, we've got a dangerous attack. When you take that image and compare it to this table of shots and where they are taken:

    image.thumb.png.0cc116ca82fca482e793a92cdcfb20b8.png

Then you start to see that we're dangerous because we shoot in the box. We're bang in mid-table for total shots taken, but we're 10th for shots in the box and 8th in the 6-yard box, and we're 19th for shots out of the box. So we shoot from close.

Then you can look at individual player conversion rates and you see that of the 44 players to have attempted 10+ shots this season we have Conway and Weimann in mid-table for total shots taken (14 and 11 respectively), but they are both much higher up when you rank those 44 by things like shot on target %, shot conversion rate, etc. So the individuals are performing in line with the team, or perhaps it s the other way round. Either way it's not luck.

Why? The very good numbers posted so far have largely been without Semenyo's involvement. He's a good player, and fits our play well, but if he leaves I am confident we can continue scoring at a good rate. There's nothing in the stats that suggests we have really suffered in his absence. We saw similar this time last season when he was out with injury. He may improve us, but we're also more than capable of being dangerous without him.

They have but that’s over a short period of games and Conway hasn’t played a full season yet. That is why I would reconsider. We struggled a lot without Semenyo last season and if Conway doesn’t keep up form then I doubt we would be top 6 material. A lot of suddenly expected of Conway - he looks a prospect but it is still early days.

I’m not selecting the starting 11 - I’m just thinking that if everyone is available that he should go for his strongest team. Common sense really…………:cool2:

You said you are guessing. You’ve replied on so many other peoples guesses for team news. You need to just wait until 2pm Saturday and then look at official site.

Not sure Semenyo if yet fit enough for a start but the 20mins he got at Adam’s Park will have been beneficial. My guess is that Nige will keep a settled team with AS on bench, injuries permitting.

You shouldn’t be commenting on the potential team. Just wait until 3pm Saturday.

Wilson definitely looked better in the second half, harsh to say looked poor more of the game. Same as Pring, thought defensively was pretty solid and then was a key attacking output in the second half.

Wilson improved a little 2nd half but overall struggled. Really thought he’d give something for NP for to think about on selection but can’t see it yet. Hopefully will improve when he gets another chance.

  9. I’m not surprised he was a bit annoyed. Several players had a big chance to come in and prove them self against a league 1 side with 10 changes.

Wells, Martin, Wilson, Massengo, King all failed to deliver when expected. Some will say Wilson scored and got an assist but he looked so poor most of the game - really short on confidence. Can’t attach any blame to Kadji on his debut. Tanner and Pring ok but hardly showed why they should step up at the moment.

It took Scott and Conway to change it.
