Just starting to get back into this after got injured early January. Taken about 3 months to get back to half marathon which I did in 1 hour 54 on Monday. On New Years Day I did my best of 1 hour 47 so still a way to go but amazed by how long it took me to get back to even anywhere close. 6 weeks out made a hug difference - starting to see why it takes so long for footballers to get back to speed after an injury.

Yeah I think you have two be running at least twice a week to maintain a level of running fitness any less and you start to drop off a bit..sounds like you are doing a decent job at getting back on track though Alex

I got cotswolds 113 which is a half iron distance on June 6th and that will lead me nicely in to outlaw at the end of July which is the full Ironman distance

Blimey thats good going I thought 50k was a long way!

I’ll look to get it in once we know fixtures.

And supposed to be doing it, yep. However booked for a night out with the wife on Friday now we can lose the kids and not sure exactly what state I’ll be in Saturday afternoon!

Good stuff. I've got a 50k race in 3 weeks so Westonbirt isn't deal preparation but both have been carried over from last year so I am giving it a go. I think this is my third attempt not been up there for it since 2016 though so hope I'm still as quick :)

It’d be fitting if all of us in the group, when restrictions properly ease, to do a memorial run. Pace irrelevant, time irrelevant. Just all get together, do 10k (I’m thinking start and finish at AG) and toast him for bringing it together. I get huge satisfaction from seeing what Tommy, Julian, Phil, Alex etc are doing and that’s down to OTIK.

If all goes to plan in the roadmap, one week before season starts provisionally?

I wasn't aware of this sounds like a good idea.

Are any of the South Glos runners doing the Westonbirt 10k this weekend?

  5. The Bears need a major overhaul (a bit like a certain football club not too many miles away) I can only imagine what idiotic trade up they have lined up for the 10th best quarter back when we have two already! It will be worth staying up for though ?

Date for for your diary - full schedule released on May 12th should get further info on the UK games at the same time.

Excellent. Good to hear you’re active.
Yeah, I’m just over in Charfield and have ran up Chase Lane a few times, then along toward King Lane.  It’s a lovely route.
I’ve only noticed a few dwellings up there - a row of houses just up from the entrance to Lower Woods, and then another row just by the turn to Orange End. Aside from that just a few farmhouses. Whereabouts are you?
I think I might run that route again this weekend maybe.
Silvio Dante is the other who’s run along there, having run from the Wickwar side of Yate/Sodbury.
I’ve yet to do the hill all the way up to the monument, which Silvio did the other week. Might have to try that this weekend, doing the route straight on at Orange End.

I'm set a bit back from Chase Lane down a track but there are about 40 houses on Inglestone Common but quite a few are not actually on the main road, lovely location but not great for deliveries or broadband !

King Lane is one of my usual routes, when I was marathon training I used to be run 9k to Chipping Sodbury parkrun then run home again usually into a head wind on Sodbury Common!

I do a lot with a group from Wotton-U-Edge these days (surprisingly brutal hills on every run) so actually run less on my own doorstep, but it you see anyone walking two dogs on Chase Lane that will be me...

  7. Good to see this post still going strong you've all given me the bug to do more. Weird to see the mentions of Chase Lane as I actually live on it! There are two routes up to Hawkesbury the one past the monument is brutal the other past Hawkesbury church is a little easier but feels longer. One day I will be able to get up either running the whole way .

    Keep up the good work!

Yeah I'm happy with an inaugural OTIB 10k either fast or slow.

Like the sound of a OTIB 10k, Yate Town do one in May possibly an option covid permitting?

Is anyone else using the 5K Parkrunner result app?

It's pretty good and the challenges add some fun to the Parkruns.

Currently trying to do the Tourist challenge (do 20 different Parkruns).

Not heard of that will look into it. The trouble I've got is youth football always seems to be the same time on a Saturday so might have to wait until the summer!

I see we have a newbie, is that you?

There's a dozen of us now. Great to see the OTIB runners covering 3 different Parkruns today.

My local parkrun is a bit brutal at the moment bit like running in an icey deep peat bog, managed to get around with two youngsters then went on my @rse on the ice in the car park much to their delight!

Just something to bring to everyone’s attention:

The Westonbirt “Run for the Trees” goes on sale at 9am Weds. For any of you who want a 10k in a really nice location which is also flat, and contains a real mix of abilities, it’s a great course and one of my favourites I’ve done previously. The race is 7pm on Thursday 7th May and in prior years sold out within a couple of hours.

    Highly recommended.

I'm in for this one will be my third time, sold out in an hour people obviously looking forward to the bank holiday Friday the day after!

  12. I'll just leave this here for any browsing Gaschat subscribers...

"Rovers made the quarter-finals of the Cup in 2008 (Yes they tell us all the time!) but have lost in round one in eight of the 11 seasons since and suffered defeats to non-league trio Barnet, Barrow and Chesham in that time".

  13. I started running 7 years ago my sons school had a 5k fun run and I though why not. Someone then mentioned just after to me about Little Stoke parkrun and I've been running ever since on and off although need a race to keep me really motivated. Done 170 parkruns, load of 10k's, 5 half marathons and 2 full including London. I'm a bit of a boring runner never been into that race buzz to me its just another race although to be fair who can argue with the atmosphere at London. I'd love to run abroad but its difficult when you try and plan something when you have a family and family holidays. I'm probably about average 1h44 half 3h57 for London marathon. I think anybody can do it if they put their mind to it health issues permitting, the key with a marathon to me was the training put the miles in and its not as daunting on the day as it could be.

My advice to any newbies, give up your gym membership get off the treadmill and run anywhere. If you haven't got a parkrun near you there are loads of social groups on Facebook (such as Lonely Goat) and the like springing up so you don't need to join a club. I now run every Thursday with a few people who live near me who set up a Facebook running group no fees and turn up when you want nobody judges anybody its great. Strava is another good free tool to keep the spirits up and getting the right footwear is a massive boost as is developing some exercises for your core its now all about your legs!

Good luck to everyone going forward with their running..

  14. Anybody else think these two WAG's just made this whole thing up between them to play a bit of social media tennis, get some likes, retweets, virtual hugs etc. and both get massive newspaper coverage and bucks from the outfall its fake news at its absolute best Donald Trump would be proud of them. Its still a fascinating read though off to google pringles now....?

Wow, I thought you were exaggerating, but no!

    1) A dig at Darryl Clarke

    2) An ad for Blackpool B&Bs

    3) A paragraph about Rovers

    4) A paragraph pretending to be about Blackpool but actually about him

    5) Hollowhead not getting a job

    6) Hollowhead not getting a job and it’s not fair

    7) Hollowhead not getting a job yet I’m really good

8 ) Hollowhead losing out on  a job to someone who can coach

    What an ego!

He's obviously got too big an ego to do what Gary Johnson did and set his sights a bit lower like he did when taking the Torquay job.

I would guess money would be very similar, I would say it says more about his relationship with his boss that he prefers to play with Clarke

He played for Salisbury when Clarke was there so obviously prefers him to the Irish Saviour
