  1. Achievements deserve context and perspective. Our achievements (and expectations) are different to other clubs. Norwich for example would be expecting promotion this season. If they get it, is it an achivement or is it the expectation being met? If Wycombe were in amongst the playoffs all season but finished 8th, then went on to sustain their Championship status for 3-4 years I'd say that's an achievement. Likewise, if Man City earn a Champions League spot but dont win the league, that wouldn't be seen as an achievement as such - but it would if West Ham or Everton made it. At the point LJ came in we were on our way back to League 1. We are a mid-table Championship side - and that's because of the work LJ did here. We have no given right to expect a play off place and promotion. We've finished higher than Lee's 8th place once in my lifetime. Not saying we shouldn't strive for better, but Bristol City fans need to apply some perspective and realise our relative place in the football league and punching above that consistently IS/WAS an achievement. He just didn't have enough to get us over the line.
  2. It's sad how people talk about him He didn't do much wrong here except talk a bit of nonsense and ultimately the football went a bit stale, as it does with every manager at every club in the world at some point. As a person, he's not done anything to make him a "cretin". He's a decent bloke who worked bloody hard to at least TRY and get success for this club. If he outstayed his welcome that's not his fault, it's the people above him
  3. and as above, just a couple of weeks prior we went toe to toe with one of the best teams in the world and had every chance of beating them. The wheels came off after that cup run, and I think the players put so much into those 3 big games that it all fell apart. We couldn't match the intensity of the games pre-Xmas. The Wolves game was a big turning point in the league too.
  4. Define achievements? He saved us from relegation and turned us into a solid Championship side, challenging in and around the play offs. He got us our best cup run in 30 years, beating the biggest club in the country and going toe to toe with the best team in the world at the time over 2 legs. We played some of the best football I've ever seen from City, especially when you consider the level we were at (Cotts team was fantastic, but it was L1 football) The end was shit, and it was probably the right time for him to go, but it's nonsense to say he didn't achieve anything here.
  5. Why even touch firsts, it’s unnecessary? Asked this earlier and didn’t get an answer, what does a “bubble” mean? They aren’t all in a bubble any more than I am with my work colleagues. We all go home to our families at the end of the day - and they mix with whoever they need to etc . It’s not the same as not hugging your family! You live with them. These players (mostly) aren’t living together. They haven’t been testing twice weekly in the EFL, premier league might have. Tbh though I agree, amongst everything else they are doing, the goal celebration doesn’t make much difference. Half hour in the changing rooms before the game would probably be worse for transmission. That said the celebrations have become more normal as it’s gone on, when the game first came back teams made a point of not celebrating together.
  6. It doesn’t matter where it’s from though really, if it gets in and spreads to the rest of the team it’s putting more people at risk through what is non-essential socialising. The players might be ok if they are fit and healthy, the coaches/back room staff and / or their families maybe not so?
  7. Increased it how? None of our players tested positive did they? that bit at the start wouldn’t have been any better or worse than all mixing at a corner or such like
  8. That's exactly what lockdowns should be, a short term measure to buy time to get plans in place. We screwed up the first one by not getting track and trace in place and then sending everyone out 3 x a day for cheap food and never getting on top of the resultant spread. THe second lockdown was a joke to enable Boris to "allow" Xmas. At least this one has a plan and end goal - vaccination of the most vulnerable. Obviuosly there will come a time we have to live with it, but not when 3500 extra people a day are being admitted to hospital. It wouldn't be long til we're at a point in some areas where if you have a heart attack, stroke, car accident etc you just wont get the help you need in time.
  9. I expect these big regional hubs are just to get the majority of at risk done ASAP. Eventually it'll be local GPs and hospitals I expect? Either way, cant see full crowds this season. Maybe start of next season at a push if we're lucky, the majority of people will be vaccinated by then
  10. Fairly obviously there wont be any fans in the ground any time soon, we're in lockdown. At least March I expect until we see most non-essential things open up again
  11. Hey? Think you mean @markcarter I'm not sure I've kept repeating anything that wasn't true - but regardless, at the point this was posted it had already been leaked that lockdown was coming, it was obvious.
  12. Miniscule? Hardly (relative to the history of cases in this country). 40k and accelerating. More people in hospital than in the worst period in April. 2000 people a day admitted to hospital. Oh please wise one, tell me what's actually going on
  13. It's not just one though is it. There's been 3? Prem Games, and there were 8 games in total Saturday across the football league Edit: 7 of today's league one games called off.
  14. It’s not just money though, you could go do that on the downs in an amateur football team and pay for the privilidge
  15. Well the WSL just found its biggest number of cases, 32 (4% of all tested) which is higher than the past 7 weeks combined I assume they must be tested regularly?
  16. This isn't looking so good, still believe it? I think my £50 is safe.
  17. Most team's terms I've seen are household only. Haven't seen City's though as I cant go but I'm sure it must be answered on the website Why? That was Xmas bubble, nothing to do with football rules. They shouldn't be, but that's another argument I guess. If we're told it's so bad that everyone's xmas plans need to be changed again then I just don't understand the allowance of fans returning to football. You can see your family on Xmas day only but the next day you can go to football? Madness. I was told on here football was "covid safe" because of the restrictions in place, but you watch on the TV and the distancing looks suspect, people have their masks off or round their chins and they're singing/shouting which they're told not to.
  18. Isn't cup gate receipts normally shared, dont know if that's still going to happen in this circumstance but if they have to do all that and share the receipts then you have to wonder if its even worth opening up to fans? I bet they'll actually profit very little from it
  19. It sounds to me like you’re determined to do what you want and finding a way to justify it. the guidelines we’re all living by are pretty clear. “I’ve decided what I want to do is low risk” is your name Dominic Cummings? I’m just glad not everyone is deciding to do what they fancy based on their own idea of what’s right.
  20. Latest version appears to be: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1374/contents In terms of meeting with your family as you've mentioned I would have thought it would be covered here: (2) No person living in the Tier 3 area may participate in a gathering outside that area which— (a)takes place outdoors in a place which satisfies the conditions in sub-paragraph (4) and consists of more than six people, or (b)takes place in any other outdoor place and consists of two or more people. IMO if you have to debate this much about whether it's allowed or not, purely based on intepretation of the law, than common sense says you probably shouldnt do. You're obviously going to, but if everyone made the same choices where would we be? Might as well let everyone do whatever they want? The issue is travelling to that tier 3 area, but I don't know if that's set in law. It's definitely against the guidance and again, it's not about what you can get away with, it's about what you should do. It would be covered by the fact that you should not travel from Tier 3 to Tier 2 unless essential, that's quite obvious. Even playing football locally we're not allowed to play against a tier 3 team and anyone from tier 3 in our team isn't allowed to play for us.
  21. As far as I can see, tier 3 restrictions are enforcable by law: https://www.legislation.gov.uk/uksi/2020/1105/part/3/made The guidance is clear, you should not travel to or from tier 3 unless essential e.g. work/education/care. If you're not sure, they are here: https://www.gov.uk/guidance/tier-3-very-high-alert I don't want this to come across like I'm personally attacking your decision, but just because someone's observed the rules that are in place doesn't give someone a pass to break one when they decide they've had enough. We've all had enough. That said, obviously common sense dictates that the exact scenario you described would be "safe" and you'd be unlikely to get caught. Also your note about the pub is wrong too. Someone should not be travelling from tier 2 to tier 3 to go to a pub. It may sound silly if it's at the end of the road, but if everyone did it then what would be the point of the restrictions? As for the distinction between watching sport and travelling for leisure, again, you're not allowed to do either from tier 3 to 2 or vice versa. Again, you can only cross those tiers for specific reasons and watching sport or leisure is not one of them. The note about following your own tier rules if you do travel is for those people travelling for the specific reasons. E.g. if you travel from a tier 3 to a tier 2 for work, you shouldn't then go to the pub or somewhere in that area that you couldn't do in your own. Tier 2 restrictions specifically say you should not travel to Tier 3, but that you can travel within your tier or to tier 1 (however you'd follow your tier 2 resrictions in those areas e.g. you could travel to cornwall but you couldn't go inside with a group of 6 people)
  22. You should avoid travelling into another tier except where necessary, so no you shouldnt be going from tier 3 to tier 2 to watch football You probably shouldnt be going to meet your family to exchange presentsif they are in tier 3, if it's tier 1/2 to 1/2 then you can.
