An absolute prat isn't he. How the hell is he still in the job 5 years later, he is one of the reasons match days at AG have gone downhill so quickly as well.

Needs his marching orders as I'm sick of hearing his annoying man child style voice

I think they intentionally recruited someone who will appeal to kids so you're probably not supposed to like his man child style.

Unprofessional behavior full stop and he's made it worse by reacting to fans suggesting they meet him 'for a coffee at the stadium'

He should have immediately deleted his post and realised his actions.

He is on thin ice imo.

All he needs to do is apologise if any offence caused, then don't do it again. Why be stubborn?

Probably a good time to share the true story behind the appointment of Simpson & Downing.
Obviously the talented Mr Ashton was looking for someone to assist his project Holden.
He approached the FA about Simpson & Downing. With the intention of appointing ONE of them.
When the FA confirmed they could both go, and both had been spoken to and were happy to come, Ashton found himself in a quandary.
He’d approached TWO coaches to fill ONE position, expecting only one of them to be available and accept. When both accepted, he did the only thing that Ashton knows to do - make shit up and create two positions and just ******* wing it.

The man is a total ******* dweeb - but of course, you all know that now.

No no no Harry... "Deano the good human" knew both coaches intimately from the VIP football coach circuit and when he was offered the role of Head Coach he swiftly identified them as the men with the exact skills needed to implement his footballing vision. Then Deano rode a unicorn onto the pitch to introduce them to the press.

I’m all for looking for positives but Bell went off injured then after 16 minutes!

Not exactly the greatest sample size & I don’t know what it says about the side on that day if they “suffered” because a kid on his full debut lasted so little time. Hardly like losing Kalas, is it?

I must admit I haven’t seen anywhere near enough of him to comment but would want a bit more to base it on than the first 15 minutes of one game.

Having seen far more of him I do like the look of Conway, though.

For me, Conway looks to have the better game and brain (and a bit of edge)….but haven’t seen enough of Bell in all honesty.  Most of my view on Bell is based on his pace coming to the fore when I’ve watched, not the rest of his game. But we will see if he gets a chance.

Bell was very much outshone by Janneh in the FGR game.

Other than being enthusiastic and a bit nippy, Bell didn't really show what his strengths are in that game. He just seemed a keen young player that needed to work on physical strength.

Improve next season: for me a realistic outlook is a very moderate improvement on a variety of things….league position, maybe 3 places, young players getting a bit better, wage bill equalized, and team cohesion on the pitch, perhaps looking like we deserve to win maybe 5 more matches than this season. I can’t see things improving as dramatically as people would like (we're I think at least 3 seasons away from playoffs and that’s assuming the above happens). Just my take of course.

    Sounds pretty rational to me.

The big disappointment with these two guys was the complete lack of quality loans for the England players they knew and worked with.
Many of us thought that we’d get one or two ‘ Tammy ‘ type loans in.

Yeah we were all hoping they had connections but we didn't see any evidence of it.

Plan: stay up and improve next season

I agree that is the plan (depressing as it sounds), but I worry about the 'improve next season' bit. How?

I presume we will improve by making some inspired recruitment (after all, we don't have money to spend), and by coaching our players to perform better (minus two coaches!)

It places a lot of pressure on our recruitment (see other thread!) It also requires the continued development of our U23s as they will inevitably be part of the solution.

The other part of the plan is to reduce the wage bill, which Nige and Gould should be able to do over time.

I’m really not sure whether this thread:

    a) reassures gays that they can talk about their sexuality openly, or

    b) dissuades gays from ‘coming out’ because they’ll know it’ll become the topic of conversation.

I’m from the viewpoint, that a person’s sexuality really doesn’t matter, and shouldn’t be a talking point. The fact this has become the subject of a thread is disappointing.

We need to transition from taboo to normalisation and that will take some people being the pioneers in the public eye unfortunately. I can perfectly understand why they wouldn't want to though.

Do we really need to know about anyone's sexual, religious, food, ethnicity, etc preferences?

As long as they do their job to the best of their ability, obey laws ofthe country, be a decent person in relation to others, why do we need this information.

In the context of an equal society no we don't.

In the context of our society whereby footballers feel they have to hide their homosexuality because of perceived consequences, it really could help.

It is, but the idea that he has to "come out" is the saddest thing, it shouldn't matter what his sexuality is in a normal society.

It is sad, but until people come out it will remain taboo, and so long as it remains taboo there will be the negative attitudes that hold society back.

  10. I think we can put to bed the theories that Tyson Fury will retire now. His good lady wife has been quoted as saying that she expects him to continue boxing for a couple more years.

Hopefully that means that we can have confidence that the Joshua and maybe Usyk fights can be made.

The good news is that Arum has asserted that a homecoming fight is due. He namedropped Dillian Whyte (I guess if they have no choice), and also Joe Joyce, who is a Frank Warren fighter and therefore is a very easy one to schedule.

IFL TV are releasing an exclusive interview with Anthony Joshua today which I'm sure will be filled with talk about 'the process' and 'I'm still learning with every fight' and 'we go again'.

A friend of mine who is a Norwich fan scouted for them in the Southwest. This came about after Norwich got relegated (possibly early 2000’s) from the Premiership. He actually made contact with them to offer his services, which they accepted. They then sent him to various games to watch certain players & he had to fill out a report on these players. Which included strengths/weaknesses, & marking individual components of each individuals game. He would then hand in the reports & the club took over from there. It served as a base for the club to move forward or not on each individual. He enjoyed it, bumping in to various football people as well as helping his club. COYR

    Thanks for sharing buddy. ?

It's the kind of thing I'd love to do if I didn't have bloody family life! ?

And my point is exactly this. We probably have plenty of fans across the country who might get to National League/other games when they can’t make it to City. Why shouldn’t we have a fan be able to enter a Chesterfield fixture under an official scout badge and write a full report on the chap. We need to expand the scouting network. What better than having fans, with a huge personal interest in our clubs well-being, to be out there providing reports at zero cost to the club. You personally should be encouraged to go to the next Chesterfield match and report on this lad.
There should be a facility for you to be able to contact our Head of Recruitment and say “I’m going to the Torquay Chesterfield match on Saturday, I’ll provide a report on Tshimanga”.

    Does that happen Harry?

I used to work with a bloke who watched games for Rotherham in his spare time. I suppose that makes him an actual scout but he didn't know any more about football than me as far as I was aware and certainly wasn't much of a 5-aside player!

I never understood how he ended up doing it.

Cannon fodder is that refering to us or them. Barnsley have to see this as a great opportunity of 3 points. I am not really sure this squad have it in them to handle the pressure of it A defeat for me would signal the real chance of relegation.

I think Barnsley will be talking now about how we are mentally weak and that if they keep us at bay and get the crowd on our backs it's there for the taking.

I had a huge axe to grind when Ashton was here as I knew exactly what his game was and that it wasn’t healthy for this club. I had personal dealings with him and knew he was a rotter.
And now I have an axe to grind because Lansdown has let the club go from 1 man controlling everything to no one in control of recruitment at all.
I don’t have anything against the data analysts whatsoever. They are a perfectly normal part of the modern game.
But I do have a mountainous problem with a data analyst running the whole recruitment department and not taking phone calls from agents.
Do you agree that a proper Head of Recruitment is needed?

Ashton might be gone but there is still so much weirdness at our club.

    Recruitment is one good example.

The search for significant investment is also a weird elephant in the room. We know it is an active concept but we don't know any detail around it.

And why are we refreshing the coaching personnel 3 months into the season?

Are there issues behind the scenes as one poster suggested?

Gould and Pearson seem like the types of people we need to get us on course but I'm still confused by much of what is going on.

I consider that the worst one was the Doherty management in 1958 when he created a totally split squad due to an inability to understand that a promise from HD was sacrosanct. Relegation followed that event and it is possible that the same will happen this time.

Sounds like an interesting time, feel free to expand on that ?
