  1. Ditto when I sat same place for the Blackburn game. (Hospitality?). I also notice it at just about every away game. Even at “tinpot” Luton I could hear every announcement clearly. You’re right about using the screens being one way to help. But even then they need to get it right. The other two things that really irritate me about it are - the visiting team line up: they read it out, which of course is inaudible, and also put it on the screen, but in a font size so small that you can’t read it. - substitutions: again, read them out, but only the City ones are displayed on the screen, and I know those anyway. It’s the away team I need!
  2. Fair comment Ole! I actually quite enjoyed the first half, but entirely down to enjoyment of watching Luton not City - and as they were kicking towards us we had a better view. Don’t give up the reports though……always enjoy them after an away game. And, you would have given anyone as much as a 5??? ?
  3. I wasn’t particularly aware of the wind Dave, either in the ground or outside. The rain was pretty unpleasant at times. I felt we just struggled with their pace and closing down and made rushed, poor decisions. Their game is quite high tempo and maybe that was a reason for them easing off second half - that and the fact that as you say our fitness is improving.
  4. I thought so too. I found it a strange match to watch. First half we were just so poor it was untrue. And yet I quite enjoyed watching Luton because I thought they played some really good stuff. Second half they inexplicably decided to settle for the 1-0 and to revert to a mix of time wasting and outright thuggery. Although our football wasn’t great, and largely long balls and %s, we at least got behind them a few times and caused a few problems. So although it wasn’t great football on show, it was quite enjoyable, both because of the possibility that we might snatch a barely deserved equaliser, but also the fact that it would have been just desserts for Luton.
  5. And I give you Middlesbrough. Quite a lot of Championship contenders, for sure! (Although I agree that the very worst of Stoke is P Vale (Burlsem?)
  6. I’m guessing this must now mean that our neighbours now have only the 7th richest owner in football? https://news.sky.com/story/proud-part-owner-ryan-reynolds-sells-mint-mobile-to-t-mobile-in-deal-worth-more-than-1bn-12835179
  7. Just the irony of it coming in a thread that’s about the Luton Chairman’s so say derogatory comments about us.
  8. But a “tinpot little outfit” who on the pitch were better than us in every single department last night.
  9. I can’t help wondering whether those legs match the head and shoulders of the guy from the flats that was in the recent ‘old picture of Ashton Gate’ thread ?
  10. Have a word with your namesake @Harry. Take the iPad…..even to Sunderland!
  11. I always remember him at Yeovil, right in front of the massed ranks of City fans, got knocked out cold and despite apparent concussion when he came round he went absolutely ballistic at the suggestion that he might have to come off.
  12. Agree. I can’t really see what the problem is with it. If it’s having a dig at anyone anywhere it seems to me it’s ‘the media’ - presumably local. If anyone is looking for graceless and bitter then the place to look would be to read some of the comments about Luton on OTIB.
  13. Thanks for posting this. Really pleased: as others have said he was a real hero of mine in my younger days supporting City. Very deserved recognition. Just to say though that like a good many others around me on Saturday the shocking state of the Dolman PA meant that I just didn’t realise this is what was happening before the game. I know we grumble and make a bit of a joke about the PA but at times like this there’s a serious side to it as well. For some reason I didn’t notice your post on Friday. I was aware something was going on, and knew that it was being explained over the PA but couldn’t make out a word of it. And all around me people were asking each other and looking equally blank. I know a photo went up on the screen, but that was fairly late on in proceedings, didn’t really explain anything, and the photo itself wasn’t entirely clear. Such a pity.
  14. The locals can’t have been too happy with the result that day either!! The film “The Hand of God” is well worth watching if you haven’t already seen it. Very much about growing up in Napoli.
  15. Absolutely this. I always thought that was his greatest strength. You hear outfield players being described as having “quick feet”. For me, Basso showed that it’s something that’s just as important to keepers.
  16. I didn’t think 16 was a cut off point in the pricing - which maybe why I thought your children were older than 8! (Probably don’t need a £1000 phone at that age!!!) I thought the thresholds were 12, 19, 22, something like that. And I’d bet most of those over 12 will have a phone.
  17. What context is your "thousands"? If you mean thousands of the entire population of the UK, the yes, but only a very small proportion of those will be buying season tickets at Ashton Gate! If you mean thousands of City season ticket holders then I think that's an exaggeration. (And incidentally, why this thing about OAPs. Not having a go at you on this, you're by no means alone, but plenty of OAPs are perfectly IT savvy and the % who own phones is catching up fast with the rest of the population) So, you've got a £1000 phone but you won't let your kids have one at all?!!!
  18. Weather forecast for Luton. Heavy rain, from 7pm til 11pm. Lovely!
  19. But that’s exactly the point. The norm. Not the only option. There will always be exceptions, but that’s what they’ll be, and the majority of us will just treat it as second nature to use the phone, just as we have those once new fangled cards!
  20. Oh, I get the point, and I’m not being entirely serious! I used to like the old books you tore a page out of each time. I like the card you wave over the machine. I still use a credit card rather than a phone. But life moves on, and I certainly wouldn’t refuse to buy a season ticket just because it had to be on my phone. That seems to me to be the definition of cutting off you nose….. It will become the norm very soon.
  21. I guess we neither of us know for sure! Although, as someone mentioned earlier, you’d assume the club have done some research. But I’d make a small wager that if we stood together for 10 minutes at an entrance one game next season we’d see more than 75% of people using their phones! (Unless, of course, the club make the alternative widely available - which is what the last missive from them above seemed to suggest. Then people will just stick with what they know)
  22. ?? OK: did you give up driving a car when you stopped getting a nice paper disc for your money……and in fact got nothing to show at all?!
  23. That will work by giving them another reason for trying to persuade you,……??
