Pleased when I saw he was starting cos I was so looking forward to seeing him. Agree with @cidercity1987 that he wasn’t quite up to the 2018 matches against us - but that’s a ridiculously high bar - he was so good then. Didn’t disappoint tonight though: pure class. Yep, I’d go for a ‘former player’ section. To be fair, at least the discussion about former players generally relates to players who actually played for us. Unlike the section for future players which mostly discusses players who never get within 100km of Ashton Gate!

Agreed, but that wasn’t really the point I was making. I was talking more generally about the way the rules of the competition are applied. How many ‘big’ clubs put out their genuinely full strength side in early rounds? How many out out patently second string sides?

And when rule 15A states: “Each team participating in a match shall represent the full available strength of each competing club”

I always thought that it was less to do with transfer rules and dates, and more to do with the principle that you shouldn’t be able to continue to play in a tournament (and potentially get a ‘winners’ medal) when you’ve already been knocked out.

Yep, me too! And there was a similar one in the first half - don’t think that was Scott - when Mehmeti himself was in yards of space on the left and a free run on goal, and no-one spotted him. It looked to me like Mehmeti passed a few comments after that one! So, whilst I take the point that @GrahamC and @Silvio Dante make I think I’d qualify that in two ways. Firstly, Mehmeti has the ability to run into and through trouble and create an even better opportunity when he does release the ball, but it won’t come off every time. And secondly (as per the above) this is still a set of players who are relatively new to each other and it will take time for them all to read what and where their colleagues are and what they’re expecting. Wells and Conway have that understanding - but only after the best part of a season in the U23s.

It was 100% more a penalty than the one they got awarded at the end of the game up there. So good enough for me!
