It’s the modern world mate - the younger generations wake up every day now and their first thoughts are “Right, what I can be offended by today?” - “Who can I implore others to ‘cancel’ today?” - “Who can I encourage others to ‘pile on’ people on social media because their views and opinions are different from mine?” - “Whose career can I attempt to ruin because they stand for different stuff than my views?”

... and they go through the day full of angst, pent up anger and misery because the world doesn’t necessary agree with everything they think and say - they can’t handle it, even though they’ve populated our planet for less than 20 years, yet in their eyes everyone who has been through loads of real life stuff and who have proper perspective on the real issues, should be cancelled because their views don’t necessarily reflect the stances that the loud leftists have been taught to believe at universities etc ...

I fear for this country over the next few decades - the generations coming through are weak and indoctrinated... and if they had their way, we would have had to go though Brexit, a global pandemic and the Ukraine / Russia crisis with Corbyn, Abbott, Thornberry, McDonnell etc at the helm - and true to form, Corbyn has already blamed the UK and the US for the horrendous situation in Ukraine ... I need a Malbec ??

Mate, you need to spend time with my three boys and maybe you might not think in generalisations?

I’d imagine Boro are already here?

Probably not yet.  the wind is going from South West to North East and they are travelling in the opposite direction.  If my excellent physics and mathematics is anything to go by, when considering the wind speed (allowing for variations at different times) and comparing that to the number of MPH they will be driving/flying down at, they should be with us by next Thursday.

  3. We were in the next block if memory serves.  There was a bloke near us who had on a pair of dungarees.  On the impromptu display of norkage from our adjoining block, he decided to dispense with his dungarees and show all and sundry that he had gone commando that day.

Why do I always end up in the wrong block?

  4. I was due to see him in Cardiff back in 2020 just as Covid hit so it was postponed (and not rearranged).  Sadly, I am not planning any gigs for the time being (I don't go to the football either despite having a season ticket) as my wife's cancer is progressing otherwise I might have looked at either Bath or Swansea as options.

Some things though are more important.

My interest in our Dec took an upswing after I read his autobiography Unfaithful Music & Disappearing Ink a couple of years ago.  Although quite a bit of the book is about his father and EC's relationship with him, he comes across as a man who you'd like if you met. His philosophy on life, his love of all types of music, his humour and view-of-self are things you would look for in a friend.

I bet that his phone must be full of brilliant musical contacts!

  6. Saw Van Morrison a few times in the late 80s/early 90s after being wowed by his performance at Glastonbury back in 1989.  He is always tight but very grumpy in general and I've heard that he's a stickler for perfection a la James Brown (fines the band for any little mistake).

But he has written some brilliant stuff in his day, Moondance, St Dominic's Preview and Avalon Sunset being 3 examples.  Based on your review, I might give his newer stuff a go.

Fair comment but it was just strange that the OP chose this time to complain about it with no fans allowed. IIRC our game at Blades last season was free to watch on the BBC website.

Yeah, it's a weird one isn't it?  This season seems to be a bit of a patchwork of broadcasters for the FA Cup with the BBC having some, ITV others and possibly BT Sport as well.  @Never to the dark side, is this a new thing?

The fact that no fans can attend might have had a bearing on the decision? Seems fair for the Welsh TV companies to show them under the circumstances.

BBC Wales have been showing Cardiff/Swansea and sometimes Newport live in the FA Cup for some time - I live in Wales and it seems to have been ever thus.  I guess that it's because BBC Wales covers the whole nation/principality (delete as appropriate) and the rest of the BBC works on a regional basis.

    Bloody annoying mind...

Why the hell would we want to announce the appointment of a poet to manage the team in in Nigel's absence?

p.s. I doubt that the Bard could do any worse.

Comedy of Errors etc etc etc

  11. There's a very (ahem) vocal young woman who sits behind us in the South Stand who expresses her opinion constantly throughout the game.  She has been known to shout "SCORE" at random points of the game - I'm glad she does because I don't think that the players thought about that.

Anyway, every now and again, she shouts "GO ON CHRIS MARTIN, THE LEAD SINGER OF COLDPLAY".  I'm confused as I'm sure Chris Martin is - why is she cheering on someone who isn't even in the ground?

Thought you'd like to read that even though it doesn't say anything about him as a player...

Sorry to read this @Mattredrobin.  It sounds horrible and I hope that the pain is now under control.

I understand how the uncertainty about what is going on is tortuous. Is there a District Nursing service you can approach locally about the bandages?
