Gordon Low left in 1968. He was captain of the City side that lost at White Hart Lane in 1967.
Gordon Low was a  no nonsense defender , rolled up shorts and sleeves . He and Jack Connor were at the heart of City’s defence in the first team I watched .
    RIP Gordon .

Spurs went in to win the cup that year…. as I think they did after beating us in the semi final of the League Cup.

    if only….

    RIP Gordon

Like him too but our midfield failed to win enough 50 50s after their goal. Not sure we won much in the air either throughout the whole team.
When we get the ball down and play we look good but did we earn that right enough? Perhaps that’s where Knight needs another calm head ball winner alongside him rather than a somewhat frantic Williams.

Much the same against Rotherham, although this thread was something of a commentators’ curse.
Knight had a shocker yesterday. He gave the ball away every time apart from one back pass.

Fantastic player for us and suits our game perfectly. So good in the air too considering his size!

It’s been said many times but we need to be careful what we wish for. Better, in my opinion, to be regularly competing well in the Championship than failing miserably in the Prem.

I wonder if Sheff Utd fans are waking up this morning feeling that they’ve entered the promised land.

Give me entertaining, attacking football at 3pm on a Saturday and I don’t care about the balance sheet and the whys and wherefores of amortisation.

I care that some of our best players have gone and it’s probably bad that we don’t get the money for them up front but there will hopefully be another taxi on the rank.

I’d rather have a local owner; there is probably none of them that are really perfect. Bloom has probably got just as big an ego as SL (is that really an issue? Steve seems reasonably modest for a billionaire to me) and for every team like Brighton or Bournemouth there is an Oldham, a Charlton or a Barnsley.

Yes the communication leaves something to be desired but let’s get the game back and worry less about the business.

Too much of a romantic I suppose but……when the ball hits the goal, whether it’s Cheesley or Cole, it’s amore.

Oh and the proof of this particular pudding is the five week turn around at Spurs. Nothing has changed in the ownership structure but, at the moment, they have attacking, entertaining football so the hatred of the owner (all too evident a short time ago) fades into the background.

Why do other clubs all around the world have a CEO plus a technical director/dof yet we have decided we don't need one? Tins job revoles around talent identification and player recruitment.

A good CEO pays for its salary, just like Gould did with the cost cutting he overseen.

Quite right. Love Tinman. Legend for me with boots on. Knows a player. But…

But love me duck, he ain’t the one who’s going to take the club forward for n the way a Gould or a Scudamore could bits a different skill set entirely.

OK Alexander was less than visible. He wasn’t shit like Ashton either but unless the club is to be sold, you need someone really brilliant in that role.

  7. According to Wikipedia: ‘The use of the suffix -gate after an identifying term has since become synonymous with public scandal,[16][17][18] especially political scandal.’

    Therefore the following:

Ashtongate was named after the political scandal in Bristol involving the administration of CEO Mark Ashton from 2016 to 2021 that led to  Ashton’s resignation. The scandal stemmed from the administration's attempts to cover up its involvement in many spurious and hopeless football transfers to the Bristol City headquarters in the West Country.’

I therefore feel that the world famous home of Bristol City should be sponsored and renamed so that I don’t have any reminders of that donkey who dropped us in it from a great height.

It gets to me just too much I am afraid...can't watch it live on the feeds or even commentary...I go through a routine of taking quick score updates going for walks , watching old films and worrying. I actually enjoy the summer breaks and International weeks when City don't play. This is a result of many years of supporting an underachieving outfit...the elation when we win is crazy as is the despair in a loss.

I need counselling I admit, but I know there is no  known cure I am afraid I have to put the blame firmly on my parents who were City and being born and living in the better part of Bristol in my informative years.

How I envy those that watch City at the Gate who treat it as if it was a no more than a trip to the Cinema...for me it's as if my life depended on it.

This is basically me. I know that tomorrow I will stand at the back of the Dolman thinking ‘Why the hell am I putting myself through this?’ But even after ten minutes if we’re one nil up I will be wishing for the end even tho I love watching football.
sometimes I prefer going to other grounds because I can enjoy the football for football’s sake.
I am however safer emotionally at the gate than ‘watching’ on BBC.co.uk or radio5live because some fukin stupid thoughts make me feel I can influence the outcome.

I’ve never been able to watch City on the telly. Explain that one !!!

  9. Welling up as I read this. Wonderful support offered along with well crafted, heartfelt words. Like Ivan, I have a daughter who is really struggling and that affects everything. However she did eventually agree to having help and she is a little better now.
Robin may not want help now but that is a recognised stage. Help is available when that stage passes but it isn’t easy to find the right help as services have been so run down.
Wishing you all a better day!! Uredzzz

How to build a nest egg in football? Start with half a dozen eggs and a few nests.

oh and give some of them to a rugby club.

Seriously though: the only goose laying eggs is the Prem and although Luton have got there without much investment, their progress (as well as Sheff Utd) is a little more random than Brighton or Bournemouth. Brighton appears to be the only model that bears scrutiny.
They can afford to sell players now they have got there.
We can’t afford not to but with the likes of Scott and Webster, we are selling any chance of promotion.
Football is never a jam tomorrow profession. It’s all in the here and now.

So what happens when that nest egg is built up? Do we give the cash to another incarnation of LJ and Mark Ashton, who basically put us in austerity for the last three years?

I previously mentioned that the best approach would be for us to get a manager in who has won promotion from this division (by hook or crook) and somehow drag us into the Premier league.

NP has done this, and he needs to be backed, both where financially possible and verbally.

This is where I personally feel you are massively wrong. A number of our fans may not see Bournemouth as a big club, but they are an established Premier League club and it will give Alex the chance to prove himself in the Premier League, as well as being a good stepping stone to a big club, if he is as good as many believe he is.

A career in football can last 17-20 years if you are lucky, and stay injury free, but for all there could be more attractive opportunities in 6/12 or 18 months time, you are one bad challenge, or one unbalanced moment from a career ending injury, and he has to think about his own future and what is best for him.

Now, clearly he would like to be part of the England under 21 set up soon. Despite being key for the under 20s, this opportunity has not yet arisen for him, and if you are a 25-30m player, then one could argue, if you are good enough you should be in that mix and even pushing for a full international call up. Now that's not to say playing for Bristol City prevents you from the step up, but you stand more of a chance, if you are performing week in, week out in the Premier League, than you do in league one.

Whilst fans may not like it, it is a sensible move for Alex, and he stands to gain a lot more than he would lose. Also should he turn down a lower end Premier League club to stay with us, it may not paint him in a great light of implying he is better than Bournemouth, something which may put off other suitors in the future.

What an acceptable offer from Bournemouth would do is, make other interested parties put up or shut up, as they know it would be harder to prize him from Bournemouth than us, so we may find, just what serious interest in him there actually is. If he moves to Bournemouth and they were the only ones willing to pay 25m, then other clubs saw that as too much money right now, but it could see one or two clubs who've monitored him, be forced to play their hand.

One way or another, I would suggest Alex Scott is sure to depart, and he will certainly be getting advised by his suitors not to turn down Bournemouth, and certainly not to stay with us, there is too much at stake for him.

Alex isn’t currently playing in league one; he probably is better than Bournemouth and why would he listen to any advice from his suitors? That’s like asking Red Riding Hood to listen to the Wolf.
