  1. Rich list: How the wealth of Bristol Rovers owner Wael Al-Qadi and family was calculated

The compiler of the list, Ian Strachan, has answered some of the questions surrounding the price tag.

    • Yesterday the Post, for the first time, put a price tag on the Bristol Rovers' owner's fortune.

As you might expect this caused some controversy with many wanting to know how the figure was reach and also why it wasn't higher.

    •

It was thought that the club's owner Wael Al-Qadiwas a billionaire rather than a millionaire but looking more closely at the figures available it seems that may not be the case.

In our regional rich list, which we released yesterday, we put the figure at £400 million.

The article then went on at some length to explain the figure of £400 million was a complete guess but that it was a conservative guess and the actual amount could be a lot higher. I imagine the writer had benefited from the same kind of education as Mr Al-Quidi himself ( Oxford, Cambridge, Yale, Harvard, LSE, Sorbonne, Monks Park etc etc) but he had failed to learn the intricacies of the Google search engine. Had he done so he would have easily discovered  Mr Al- Quidi’s personal shareholding in the AJIB and Four Season Hotel Amman was worth, at the time, approximately £25 million. Which strangely enough was the amount our President had put into Rovers up till last August before having to be rescued by Alf Seed.

You just have to look at the way our views compare to theirs.

We are 4 points off the play off places & the general feeling on here (although very jekyll & Hyde, based on the last result) is that our chairman is a clown for believing we could be a top 6 contender & the general outlook from threads is frustrated & negative.

Rovers are 12 points off the top 6, closer to the drop zone than the play offs - yet they always seem to refer to their play-off push & how they are better than everyone that beats them..!

It’s some kind of collective psychological disorder.

We are a dysfunctional family club.

But Alf has experience of building a Best Western hotel so he’ll soon sort us out.

  3. For the ninth time this season Rovers were the better team but lost.

With those extra 27 points in the bag we’d be 8 clear at the top.

Young Martin wants seven thousand a week for an eighteen month stretch but the only contract Alf is interested in at the moment is a short sell on gas futures.

It might be to let the smoke out from the disposable barbecues in the 'concourse' catering outlets.

The narrow width of the concourse ( aka the Quidi Strip ) is giving Alf some major headaches.

Apparently there are safety concerns about it being the only entry and exit point for 3000 spectators.

Strange because in my experience it’s usually the length which gives rise to complaints.

Probably because you're too young to remember proper football...

It’s coming back though SDA just look at how my protege Angela Postecoglou is doing at Tottenham.

Rovers already have scouts working undercover in North Korea looking for the next Son Heung-minge.

They’re charging £38 a ticket in some areas for the Pompey game as they’re struggling financially. Manager can’t bring in his own staff yet, probably as they’ve spent an obscene amount of cash sacking off Barton and his crew. Matt Taylor will be on a huge contract relative to them.

It all stinks of “I didn’t realise we’d have to put THIS much in” from the new men.

If it’s found that Mr Al-Quidi didn’t make full disclosure of Rovers’ liabilities Alf Seed may be forced to call on the services of Nicholas Higgs’ litititigation team.

I have no inside knowledge whatsoever, but here are a couple of examples /rumours I've heard indicating money may be as tight as a gnats nadger up at the "Mem Stad".

    1. A manager with no coaching team of his own. Surely that would be a given?

    2. Rumour JCH "hated" P'boro and was desperate to return to Bristol, yet we all know how that turned out.

    3. A woman in work who told me her dad is a raving Sag but unfortunately wheelchair bound. Asked the club for a ramp (somewhere around the ground) for ease of access, only to be told to pay for it themselves! (Don't shoot the messenger please).

Surely Wael of Fortune and Alf have got sufficient resource? Aren't they the sixth richest club in the country?

It’s true there are some minor cash flow issues and our Disabled Supporters Association has been told it will have to fund the cost of the lavatories in our new showpiece South Stand.

Normal service will be resumed once Alf has grounded the Quidi drones.

We're a small club that plays in a big City. Our history is very very modest, at best.

We should expect better. Unfortunately, we've missed the boat on appointing the right Manager's, many nearly moments and an ownership that isn't ruthless enough to see us get to the top.

Rovers are much more modester than what you are.

City have always been a bunch of loosers.

To make matters worse, the tinpot outfit up the road have their entire club shop run by The Terrace Shop who produce some very tidy casual wear for a few English clubs in every division on a licensing basis (i.e. they don't have to take over the club shop in the way Rovers have lock stock handed this all over, they can just produce some quality gear for clubs under a licensing agreement).

For whatever reason City is (wrongly) convinced by their own ability to produce good looking merchandise. Yes a lot of English clubs just use Terrace Shop for on demand merchandise (i.e. phone covers, mouse mats) but Sheffield Wednesday are among those (like the Gas) to have lots of casual wear and clothing including vintage and retro stuff, produced by The Terrace under licence.

    Professional sporting clubs average attendances as it stands today;

    1. Bristol City 22,355 (ranked 12th in Championship)

    2. Bristol Bears 19,781 (Last season, can't find this seasons average)

    3. Bristol City Women 8,671 (ranked 4th in WSL)

    4. Bristol Rovers 7,820 (ranked 14th in L1)

    Says it all really.

They’re just trying to put a brave face on the fact that they’ve lost yet another potential new stadium after giving it the big un. It’s what they do.

    Unlucky da shit 🤣

    Cretins.

Hard to believe it Peter but 99% of the playing staff and officials at Rovers including the board of directors still call him Puff Daddy instead of Diddy.

I hate to think what David Hamilton would make of it.

I haven't read many of the comments, but I've just watched the interview and found it to be quite decent. I believe that as fans, we aren't necessarily seeking a detailed insight into the club's day-to-day operations. However, regular interviews with JL, perhaps on a bimonthly basis, could greatly help us feel more connected to the club.

Regarding the interview content, I think Jon came across well. He appeared to be a genuine fan of the club and clearly displayed his passion for achieving Premier League promotion.

Now, I understand that my following opinion might not be popular, but after reflecting on NP's sacking for a few days, I've come to think that it might not be a bad decision. While I liked NP as a person, he did not have a stellar track record let's not kid ourselves. JL also touched on this in his interview, emphasising that many City fans wanted NP gone not too long ago, and that's true.

I'm not convinced that NP single-handedly solved the wage bill issue. All he did was allow contracts to run down, which isn't particularly complex financial management.

Additionally, the style of football we were playing was rather uninspiring, and our home threads were filled with complaints about the lackluster play and poor shot on target statistics.

In any case, I'm just expressing my perspective, and I don't expect everyone to agree. It seems like fans had reached a point of frustration due to the club's direction, poor communication, and the need to vent their concerns. SL and JL bore the brunt of it, rightfully so, although I don't condone personal attacks.

From the video, it's evident that the club is headed in a new direction. My impression is that NP might not have been as present as JL would prefer, and they wanted to change that. It appears we'll have funds to invest, but they didn't want to allocate them to NP.

If JL follows through on his promises regarding communication, I'm fully on board and eagerly anticipate the next chapter. I won't be continually critical; instead, I'll support the team.

    COME ON YOU REDS!

If you appoint that Bo Svensson as manager I reckon you'll be in the Premier League within three seasons.

    You lucky buggers.

Property Natter - Prime suspects in a same-day delivery world

We want to buy your house and we'll pay whatever you like -  it sounds like a dream come true but it's rumored to be happening in Horfield, Bristol.

Notes pushed through letterboxes late at night is the preferred method of communication for a property investment vehicle which seems determined to purchase a number of homes adjoining a sports stadium in North Bristol. One recipient Mr Kenneth Pratt, who did not wish to be named, said the sums involved are astronomical and way above what our June got for her semi last year. We tried to get some local insight by pulling strings with the CEO of Bristol Estate Agents Association Ms Elsie Curtain but she refused to be drawn. Acquiring neighboring properties would certainly smooth the way for expansion of the stadium but prices in the area are already high and tens of millions would be required if this is indeed what is intended. Unfortunately we were unable to obtain a comment from Mr Alfred Seed the mysterious owner of the offshore truss which supports Bristol Rovers.

So @bert tann, who do you think the elusive "Gasburner" is who seems to have them all naval gazing? I looked at the statement he/she/they gave out over the supposed Gorringe interview, and my first thought was that Kachina has decided to try winding up the blue bit of Bristol this time around.

I think the elusive “Gasburner” is a friend of Mr Al- Quidi who goes by the name of Comical Ali.

He is not a friend of Alf Saeed.

  14. Talking about the proposed new Oxford United ground which is just about to receive something called planning permission if anybody knows what that is ?

Yes it is, very near the train station just off Kidlington, a bit like Brighton, outskirts of the city with a great bus network to it as well.

Very expensive area for the land, they have done well. To get planning it’s 16,000 for now, they can’t go over this but once built they can apply for 18,000.

Used to drive by there quite a lot in the past , quite a way out of Town . I wouldn’t be that happy if I was an Oxford fan .
Ps isn’t all land pretty expensive around Oxfordshire?

Basically like us moving to Twerton again.
