We drove past there last Monday and were discussing how lovely it would be to have a balcony above the A4! :)

Seriously, I think developing brownfield sites is better than using green belt and that affordable housing is always going to be in less desirable positions, but a building that size anywhere near the water system is always going to be a risk. You would think that the history of Coronation Road and Cumberland Road would act as a warning sign for these developments.

There are so many other brownfield sites that are more suitable for development, but I think that's for another thread.

No, the discussion of brown fields is quite appropriate on this thread.

The staff at the Mem were so moved by Mr Gorringe's explanation and excuses for Rovers huge losses that today the sanitary facilities at the Mem quickly became overloaded.

  2. Rovers head of fales Mr David Dim has today announced the capacity of our proposed permananent temporary wrap around stand has been increased to 4000 and it will be renamed the South West North East Stand.

The news that construction is to be completed in July was met with incredulity by supporters and the Bristol City Council planning department alike but Mr Dim is standing by his story. He told reporters gathered outside the Atomic Bugger on Gloucester Road that  contractors have assured him the minute this season ends he will feel the earth move under his feet and the sky come a tumbling down. Later adding that his heart starts to tremble whenever he hears the words new ground.

As per the title Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al Thani, the chairman of one of Qatar's biggest banks, has confirmed a bid to buy Manchester United.

    https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/64684703

He also owns a 9% stake in the Arab Jordan Investment Bank where the Al-Quidi family retain 27%.

By my reckoning that makes the Al Quidi's considerably richer than him.

And Rovers three times as valuable as Manchester United.

    You know it makes sense.

    Borderline unreadable.

"...hope, which for some has trickled into expectation." What? What on earth does that mean?

"undoubtably"...sorry do you mean the relatively common English word "undoubtedly".

"...a desire by them all..." surely the desire comes from them all?

"...discussed within the Board minutes..." I assume it was discussed at the Board meeting, and then minutes were produced.

I cannot be arsed to read further. What a load of rubbish.

    The man is completely illiterut

I don't know him. He seems quite canny and I'd imagine he has always known that football club ownership is money-losing, but local prestige building, exercise for the vast majority of owners. We've bumped around the second tier for yonks now, but with parachute payments and FFP rules it's a tough step to take to progress. Much harder than it was prior to the PL era of TV millions.

For him, it is a hobby, that has taken a small percentage of his substantial fortune. Be interested in how much of his dosh from being 15% owner of Jordan's third largest bank has been invested in the Gas by Wally.  He was carried down Gloucester Road by the ecstatic Blue Few in 2016, think he's disappointed that you're being turned over by Accrington Stanley and have only three more points than we have, during a shit season for us?

Face it, you're going nowhere, nor are we. But we're not sitting in B&Q seats and drinking out-of-date Fanta.

Mr Al-Quidi Jnr is listed as being the owner of an 8.5% stake in AJIB worth £ 18.7 million.

But there is speculation over this having been pledged to cover the £ 22 million contributed to Rovers as capital and that no more will be forthcoming.

You’ve got to hand it to Joseph in one way. He’s come in and worked the Fewers fanbase right out from the get go. A bit of bullshit here and bluster there and they are literally on their backs begging for him to tickle their tummies. Exactly the same with his Employers.

Gorringe was the one who came out with the Peoples Club bollocks but does anyone believe for a second it didn’t originate from “Evertonian” Barton? The fact is the Few lap up this “romantic” fiction……it’s what they do and always have done, aided and abetted by the local media in Bristol.

As for the Boca Juniors comparison………..that in itself will ensure this thread reaches 10k pages. Unreal and astounding bullshit that, again, will be lapped up.

There are establishments on Whiteladies Road that charge you £90 to be abused and it only lasts for half an hour.

    ( according to my nephew)

As a boy I remember the half time scores elsewhere were on a board marked A to Z and you had to check your programme to see which game related to which letter. Or did I imagine that...? Very exciting.

One of the reasons we used to call it Eastville for Entertainment.

That system was a forerunner of my later invention the personal computer.

Why do they literally fall in love with some of their managers, its really odd. I guess i can understand Clarke for getting them out of the Non League but really. Grown adults in awe and inspired by a wife beater sums that lot up.

The Horfield medical community is split on this issue.

South of the Common the unanimous verdict is Celebrity Worship Syndrome but North of the Common, particularly around the skatepark, the consensus is Obsessive Love Disorder with a touch of Erotomania.

  9. I know what you lot are like.

You're not just looking forward to the Rotherham game and the England game are you ?

You're manically straining at the leash because you simply can't wait to see pictures of the big screen and the hordes of Gasheads crammed into the Thatchers end on Saturday night.

    Well here's a sneak preview

  10. Joey Barton has revealed how ex-England captain John Terry welcomed him to the national squad with a classy phone call.

The former Manchester City midfielder’s international career lasted just 18 minutes when Steve McClaren brought him off the bench for a friendly against Spain in 2007.

Now manager at Fleetwood, Barton recalls a phone call from Chelsea legend Terry which left a lasting impression on him after he was named in the squad.

“I thought I should’ve been in the three or four squads before that, so I thought I was never getting in,” Barton told talkSPORT.

“Then I got the phone call from the FA, which was closely followed by a call from John Terry, who was the England captain at the time.

“He was fantastic on the phone. He spoke about what was expected of an England player, welcomed me into the group and said, ‘Look, you should’ve been here earlier but it’s great to have you in the group’.

“It really made me feel at home. I didn’t feel like the new boy on the school playground.”

Terry, now assistant manager at Aston Villa, was stripped of the England captaincy twice following his affair with Wayne Bridge’s ex-girlfriend and racial abuse of Anton Ferdinand.

But Barton, who saw his fair share of controversy during an eventful playing career, still holds Terry in the highest regard.

“Everything I’ve seen about John since, I’ve never changed my opinion of him. I just remember that phone call and I thought it was a real moment of class.

“It was everything I expected of the England captain and it really helped me settle. It was phenomenal.”

Barton was subsequently ignored by Fabio Capello and the former Newcastle man previously told talkSPORT he deserved more caps.

He said last year: “Capello had never met me and at the time we’d just come back up to the Premier League with Newcastle and I believe I was playing as well as anyone in the country.”

But now Barton reveals a drunken incident may have affected his England chances.

“Unfortunately for me, that was the only squad I got in,” he added.

“I actually played brilliantly against Spain who went on to become world and European champions.

“But because I went out, had a few pints and got in an altercation in the city centre, I was never called up again.”
