  1. This. Results are completely secondary & loads of this side already know they’re being released anyway. If he gets half a game or an hour but comes off because it was pre-arranged that’s all that counts.
  2. Fair enough, though not sure I would believe too much Trundle says after he made up that crap about Styvar & wasn’t good enough at Championship level by the time we signed him.
  3. Isn’t the rumour that our man of many different roles, (one week he’s a scout, the next he’s a coach, then he disappears from view) Kalifa Cisse, has been over in France scouting? To be fair to him he does at least have the advantage of being a native French speaker. I’m not sure Manning’s single season in the Belgian second division helps us too much.
  4. I don’t think he’s bothered enough to speak to Radio Bristol again. His only interaction with the media in some while was at home in Guernsey when he wanted to say how much involvement he’d had in selling Alex Scott. Genuinely don’t reckon he gives a **** what we think.
  5. Good contributions, as usual you agree more with some than others but the overall mood was captured very well. What I did think was funny was the list of attributes this mythical number 9 we need was reaching “what have the Romans done for us” in Life of Brian levels by the end. Quick, strong, has good hold up play, can bring others into the game, decent finisher.. By the way the budget is around £3m, so good luck all you data analysts at the HPC..
  6. That’s sadly true & actually know the individual concerned..
  7. Well, I can certainly see at least one or two of that “type”. Whether they are a good fit, can settle in England & click* early on is much harder to say. *always thought the moment Kodjia thrashed the ball into the net v Brentford made him realise I can do this. He scared the shit out of defenders, all arms & legs, lightening quick & clever. Didn’t do his chances any harm at all that he had one of the best “minders” in Wilbs, either.
  8. What’s Keith Burt doing these days? Basically we need another Kodjia, don’t we? Really don’t think some appreciate what a signing he was, out of Ligue 2, couldn’t speak English yet scored 20 in a struggling side.
  9. It is also the first thing that crops up if you Google it… I swear there are loads on here who have no idea what a search engine is.
  10. Really don’t understand why Hogg doesn’t do some of them. It is almost impossible that he could be any duller and it would lighten the load, re-enforce the message it is a collective. I promise I’m trying hard not to harp on about the previous era, but I loved it when Curtis did them. Funny, engaging, passionate, honest (as a coach ever is). Spot the difference..
  11. So the appearance clause rumour was bollocks, then. Plenty to criticise anyway without people making stuff up.
  12. Squad player in a League One team that never got promoted, he played 39 games for us (only 21 starts) then joined Telford..
  13. Plus you can’t really say “even if he loses the last 8”. Firstly because on the balance of probability that’s almost certainly not going to happen. Secondly because if in the unlikely event it did, what would then be 13 defeats in 14 ends anyone’s time in charge, pretty much whoever they are. I still think he’s under more pressure than Latham believes & needs to show some signs of progress or a plan to continue in the role.
  14. Relatively yes, but you must have heard the myth that Newcastle have always had at least 30,000 at their games trotted out in more recent times?
  15. They were, they were really awful. Only visit there for me was the game after Louie Donowa’s goal that beat the gas. 0-0, 12000 crowd, they were booed off. Absolute myth that they have always had good crowds.
  16. Maybe, but that’s a totally different point, isn’t it? Crowds were low in the mid 80s for the reasons I mentioned.
  17. Absolutely not my thing but gaming, the Warhammer/ Dungeons & Dragons stuff apparently is. Trainspotting still exist? Maybe fishing?
  18. If you were around then (& I was), not really. This was the year of Heysel, the Millwall riot at Luton on TV. Pretty sure our one at Reading was the year before. Football was seen as violent, an almost exclusively male pursuit in crumbling, dangerous stadia. Definitely not cool. A lot of the 80s was like this. Whatever any of us think about the Premiership, Sky’s influence & the rest, the rose tinted nostalgia for that time is to a great extent, misplaced.
  19. Latham seemed pretty certain in the Podcast that James wanted to leave to spend more time in the week with his family & less time here on his own. Seemed a very specific answer which suggested he’d heard this from someone who would know.
  20. As per above in a thread this would be based on the rumour that Williams is staying & Bird joins to effectively replace James. If we bring in a “10” then this current nonsense of playing Knight there ends & we also see him competing for a central midfielder slot. King surely can’t be expected to be involved as a player at 36. Squad would be broadly similar size but with Stokes & Palmer-Houlden as bench options.
  21. Don’t think so for a minute. Before you factor in Conway staying or not, my hunch is we’re looking at a maximum spend of £7m, split exactly on a new striker & a number 10 (whether that’s Twine or not). Having brought in Bird my guess is that we will only make one other signing, a back up keeper with greater first team experience than Bajic, (probably someone out of contract). If Conway goes then £2.5m to £3m would be spent to replace him.
  22. Me too, pretty sure lengthier footage after Neville’s goal would have shown me on the pitch.. Just brings it back what an absolute dump that place always was..
  23. There could not be a greater example of the false equivalence that goes on in the local media than the fact that both City & Rovers’ women’s teams are at home today. City play Spurs, Rovers play Liskeard. Bet the chasm in standard doesn’t get pointed out once.
  24. That brilliant picture encapsulates just what we have deliberately lost, doesn’t it? Experience & credibility at Championship level, to quote the great Terry-Thomas, what an absolute shower we have in charge of our club now.
