It doesn't really work like that tho... a manager isn't going to change his philosophy/formation to suit one player.

I'm sure people will correct me but i can't name many sides in the top 2 divisions that play 2 central strikers, so Tommy needs to adapt his game, not the other way round.

FWIW i think he's a decent finisher but his all round game is lacking at present, and its a position we need to improve in my opinion.

As has been suggested earlier, why not play him behind and close to Wells (or whoever), maybe in a 4411, for instance. If we aren't going to get the best out of him, for his own sake he needs to hold off on signing a new deal and look elsewhere.

Manning seems pretty stubborn when it comes to the lone striker formation

He needs to get flexible! Personally speaking I quite like a bit of counter attacking football!

Probably because you're too young to remember proper football...

Ahh yes, jumpers for goalposts, barging the keeper into the goal, lace in the sodden leather ball, games on xmas day & return on Boxing Day, WM system. Those were the days............

All our midfielders had a poor game, millwall just did what millwall do against us season after season. I thought they condensed the middle of the pitch sat in a low block dragged us into an ugly scrappy game and because of there physical and hight advantage and workman like attitude also won all the 50/50s they were also hitting us on the counter to good effect with there willing runners. we then played straight into there hands by passing the ball backwards and sideways constantly allowing millwall to regroup and get bodies behind the ball we didn't have any solutions atall for it,  even when we went wide to try and play around them Mehmeti just lost the ball or we turn backwards and played the ball back we have absolutely no craft what so ever no composure on the ball in that final third of the pitch this conway uptop on his own is becoming so painful to watch aswell you cant expect to hit the ball long and conway to do anything with it as it will just come right back at you. we seriously need a big physical striker who can make the ball stick up there and an attacking midfielder who can play the passes into space and pick out those little pockets of space the opposition leave when coming at us with there press or help recycle the ball further up the field.

Tommy needs to ply in a 'two' if he's to play, preferably with Wells, until an alternative is available.

I felt the referee didn't help. The fight at the end was the most exciting thing for the whole game, but it would never have happened if he'd taken action over the constant cynical fouls throughout.

I'm at a loss to understand what a foul is now! Shove in the back no foul, tackle from behind no foul. WTF.

How much of a say he got over signings is also a matter of debate.

Yes, I agree. It seems they had no actual set policy and just signed random players. A bit like the recent Chelsea recruitment 'system'!

Can we up football wage budget to £37m, splash out another £5-6m on additional fees/loan fees and have a entering peak Brennan Johnson we turn down 2 substantial bids for..

    Their recruitment has been shite!

Think you both raise perfectly good arguments and I agree.

I constantly come back to - if we’d spent another £3m plus wages in the summer on TWO players of the calibre of Knight and Dickie, might we be a lot closer to the top 6 than we are?

Off the back of £20-25m for Alex Scott.  I don’t buy the “budgets set in March / front loaded the signings” bollox.  That was retrofitted because they’d moved into “sack Nige” plans.

Wasted opportunity, and going over old ground, to spite Nige, or at least make it more difficult for him.

Spot on Dave. Our glorious leaders knew exactly what they were up to. Nige was trying to evolve the team into a more possession based side, so what do they do? Sack him to bring in a 'bright young thing' to turn the side into a ...err...possession based side........overnight!
