  1. Long shot but if anyone has a spare ticket for sale please PM me.
My wife and I are both members, but I found out today that both memberships are in MY name, which meant I could only buy one ticket. I was on the phone queue for 90 minutes and then cut off when it sold out.

If anyone finds they can’t make it then I’d be really grateful if you could bear me in mind.

Of course I’m aware there will be loads like me, so I’m not holding my breath - it’s a very long shot!!

  2. I had one of those footballs and loved it.
I lived opposite my local primary school and me and a few mates would go into the playground and play football at the weekend when the school was closed.
Ah the 70s - City in the top flight, plus some decent music around back then too!!

  3. Every manager has contributed in their own way on the Bristol City journey.
Sacking Pearson and appointing Liam was a big gamble and I admit I was very concerned, but right now the signs point to wards it paying off. Of course there are a lot of games ahead so it’s early days, but I’m really enjoying the football again and the last 3 games have contributed to me and my family having a great Christmas.
I really hope we can carry the momentum on into January.

  4. I seem to have reopened old wounds by mentioning those offsides!

My point was 50 goals is great for him, but he would have been credited with even more if it wasn’t for poor officiating.

Ah yes I remember that season.

Aston Villa, Derby and Nottingham Forest away minimum.

All at best sketchily disallowed. Maybe one or two others that probably were on balance correct.

That Villa game in particular was a refereeing disgrace.
LJ received a written apology from the referee’s association. Ah well that’s ok then.
Villa won the game they should have lost. Who knows what might have happened if we’d taken those (deserved) points.
I think Andi was simply too fast for the officials - they assumed he mush have been offside because they couldn’t believe anyone could run/react so quickly.

  6. Not to mention all those perfectly good goals he scored under LJ which should have stood but were wrongfully ruled out for offside - about 10 - so rightfully he should be on more like 60.
Top professional and I love the guy. Always gives 100% and I’m delighted for him getting his goal today.

That's some terrible defending to let Tommy get a cross in. poor bloke knew he Had a city player behind him

I thought that at the time. Their defender had to go for it because there was a city player there waiting for the tap-in. Unfortunately for him it hit the back of his own net. Great for us though!!!

I had a TR6 (great, but it started to rust) then grew up (not) and got a Stag (Rover 3.5 engine). Also had a Dolomite Sprint at some point which had the head gasket shaved a couple of times before scrapping it. Happy days...

I wanted a Stag.  Beautiful looking and sounding machine. Put a deposit down on one from a reclaim yard in Risca - a Mk1 - J reg 1971.  It had the original 3.0 Triumph V8 which was running, but needed loads of other work.
i chickened out and lost my deposit. That was when I lived in Bishopsworth in 1989.
I would still love to own one even now.

You owned some great machines. TR6’s are fetching big money now.

Just checked, you're right, it was a Consul 3 litre GT.

In a poor attempt to get this football related, I think Jack Regan would have made a great manager, proper hair dryer at half time even if winning.

He should have managed Oxford after retiring as Inspector Morse.

There you go, back on topic.

Either him (Regan) or George Cowley from The Professionals - my other top TV watch from those days. Either of them would have made great football managers !!!

The Sweeney was on TV on Monday nights at 9pm. The strict deal was that if I finished my maths homework before 9pm I was allowed to watch it as it was one of my favourite programs.

If you were getting home to watch it from football then it is perfectly possible that it took you 2 days to get home because you had broken down in said Leyland car!!

I would watch The Sweeney and beg my Dad to get a Ford Granada, cos that is what Regan had and he was cool.

You’re right - on reflection I don’t remember Saturday evening TV being much unless you were into the American series. Magnum PI? Hawaii 5-0?
Starsky and Hutch were Saturday evenings I believe - which I used to enjoy.

Was it a Granada or a Consul? They were the same (really cool) shape and I’d love to have one of either model now.

Sorry I am ruining the thread with my reminiscing…..

  11. Seriously we won’t be able to compare them properly until LM has spent 5 years with us.
Even then, the setup that existed when LJ was at the helm (Deano, Ashton) will be very different to Liam’s tenure.

My Marina cost me a fortune in filler. I tried to tell myself it was worth it as some form of homage to the Dolman family but that theory didn't work any better than the car.

Without wishing to hijack the thread; in the 1950s a third of the world’s motor vehicles were manufactured here in the United Kingdom. One in 3 cars worldwide were British. That’s incredible.
Then in the 1970s Nationalisation and Leyland ruined the reputation of all their brands - and finally the industry was broken up and sold off to foreign buyers during and just after the Thatcher years. I don’t believe there is now a single British-owned car manufacturer left.
    What a demise!!!

Back to football - at least back in the 1970s you could drive your Marina, Metro, Maxi or Allegro to Ashton Gate to see top flight football - then watch an episode of The Sweeney to end the evening… it wasn’t all bad!!

My 1st car, unfortunately, was a 1974 Morris Marina.

No one who was connected to the terrible BL cars of that era deserves my sympathy.

I had a Triumph TR7 convertible. Loved it - but it was a rustbucket. It was as much a hobby for me back then at 21 as it was a form of transportation.

And rovers ,         And now us by the sounds of things 😂😂😂

They’ve always hated us - Swindon are their main rivals though, partly due to location but mainly due to the ‘car wars’ British Leyland industrial strikes in the 1970s (similar to the ‘dock wars’ between Portsmouth and Southampton).

Some of you may remember the Hartcliffe Riots back in the early 90s, where cars, shops and houses were set on fire - the majority of arrests were people who bussed in from Oxford to have a pop. I remember being astounded at the time.

When people think of Oxford, we tend to think of highly educated dons, swishing down gothic corridors in their gowns, talking like they did on Pathe newsreels - or Inspector Morse esq pretty pubs and villages - but in fact Oxford plays host to one of THE most violent and crime ridden estates in the UK…

Well that’s clearly a far better source than Shags and Kid.

It popped up so I posted it. It may or may not be true.
I haven’t seen any announcement from any source unveiling anyone else - or saying Eustace will NOT be the next manager, so this is all I have to offer.
