  1. Last time I went in the Tap and Barrel I ended up in a ‘scuffle’. The brother-in-law is a regular around those pubs and he’d obviously upset somebody because a bloke deliberately barged him whilst he was singing Karaoke. I jumped up and separated them, then we left. It was a very tense atmosphere. Back in the day (mid 80s) though it was one of my regular haunts - as was the Black Cat. Does anyone remember when Gerry ran the Black Cat? I’m going back to 1985. I think he took it on just after it reopened. His mate Steve ran the Yew Tree in Bishopsworth for a while too. Nice guys but didn’t stay in the trade for long.
  2. I know that person. She’s been around the pub scene for many years. I’m not surprised about those pubs struggling given the cost crisis, but I am surprised they are all going at once.
  3. Same as others on here I was underwhelmed by Cotts's appointment. I thought Semenyo was godawful when I first saw him play - got himself sent off vs Leeds (or it might have been Derby) I seem to remember I thought Caulker would go on and become the next 'Tony Adams' and play at the very highest level I thought Danny Rose was one of the worst, most useless players who ever donned the shirt - spent most of his time sat on his @rse wailing for a free kick. I thought Nick Carle was going to be brilliant and I was gutted when he went to Palarse I thought Matt Smith would be a 'donkey' signing I thought Aaron Wibraham was past it when we signed him There are undoubtedly many other footballing mistakes I've made. Basically it seems I know very little about the game......... ?
  4. I think that’s lost on the youngsters on here…!!!
  5. I used to enjoy watching the showboat back in the day Not really bothered now though - hardly ever watch it these days and NEVER from start to finish.
  6. I thought that todays rules were if it hits your hand in the box it’s a penalty - whether you have your hand out or not - you could have your back to the ball and it hits your hand it’s still a pen. The old ‘ball to hand’ rule no longer exists. A red card is for when the referee thinks it was deliberate. If it’s accidental then it’s just unfortunate - it’s still a penalty- but at least you won’t get sent off!!! Thats my understanding anyway - I might be wrong…..
  7. I’m a bit torn really. I liked the thought of the new stadium - with its train station and easy access, but I also like to go for a beer or 2 before and after the game and although I don’t mind the bars in the stadiums I do like the choice around North Street. Parking is and always has been a nightmare around BS3 on match days and I’m travelling from Swindon so I was really hoping from a selfish perspective that the new stadium would have triggered investment in the rail link that was planned. I live in hope that the Ashton Gate halt will one day be reopened. In the meantime, Ashton Gate is perfectly adequate for hosting Championship and mid-lower Prem games. We only need a 40k stadium if we break into the top 6 European places and I can’t see that happening any time soon.
  8. Did Chelsea just attempt the ‘Weasel’???
  9. Sent them to Tenerife and Lanzarote - apparently they want Germans more than Brits over there…..
  10. Players have bought into the idea that our season is over.
  11. Not claiming to be an expert, but I posted on another forum that we should take a few pops from distance, as we seem to try to twist and dance it through a congested box every time - it seems that Andi and/or Nige read my post and acted accordingly!!!!? Well done Andi - great goal from a great pro.
  12. Ffs how did we get caught up in all that? We’re Somerset (and Wiltshire in my case) - why didn’t we let those northerners settle things without us getting dragged into it?!!!
  13. It’s a resort on the Costa Del Sol and I’m flying back tomorrow evening… ?
  14. You may be right I’m open to correction
  15. Maybe not motorways but major roads possibly? Football crowds are definitely nasty through the ages. We are probably the nicest generation in football history. the 70s were the worst - our parents/grandparents - shameful.
  16. From a purely football angle, IMHO Man U could consider themselves unlucky. 2 of Liverpools goals were from lucky deflections (ok they still had to finish) Also I thought one Man U player was unlucky to be yellow carded after he got the ball with his tackle but the Liverpool player got caught up in the follow-through. That said it would still have been at least 4-0……..
  17. I’ve been told (and I’m open to being corrected) that the reason Man U and Liverpool hate each other is nothing to do with being local rivals, nor religion or politics - apparently it was after the Munich air disaster when many of the ‘Busby Babes’ tragically lost their lives, Liverpool fans draped piss-taking banners mocking the tragedy from motorway bridges around the area. Man U fans have (understandably) never forgiven them for this and the hatred has grown. Like I said - I’m open to being corrected on this, but this is my understanding from what I’ve been told.
  18. Amusing and entertaining watching here from Fuengirola. Don’t like either side (don’t hate them either). Battle of the Plastics. Liverpool Plastics get bragging rights today - you can hear them in pubs and bars all across the south of England teasing their Man U plastic counterparts in the same regions.
  19. On one of the Cardiff forums, one of the regular posters on there (who I’ve enjoyed banter with over the years) said before the game that they(Cardiff) should go in hard and aggressively, intimidating our lads with loads of shithousery because he thought if we were allowed to play our game then we would take the points. Maybe their manager was reading that forum?!!!
  20. If we’re charging them extra to cover the cost of their behaviour then fair enough (although I was under the impression we charged CCFC for the damage..?) I was given to believe (possibly incorrectly) that we charged ALL visiting fans those prices, not just the violent Neanderthals like Cardiff and Millwall??
  21. They have a point about the pricing.
  22. Last time I was in Cardiff on a match day, the kick-off actually took place in the pub!!!!!
  23. Me and Mrs R&W will be watching the game at Ibenza Square Benalmádena if anyone fancies joining us…….. ?
  24. Prewett was my grandmother’s maiden name and her father was the builder. She married and became a Robson. One of the Robsons played cricket for England - and played in goal for Bristol City (around the 1920s) !! BCFC really is in my blood!!!
  25. Ah Prewett St - believe it or not that was named after my maternal great grandfather who was the builder who built it!!!
