Flint, Pack, Kodjia, Bryan, and Reid all had come through or were signed under Cotts.

Flint and Pack were signed by SOD, for absolute buttons. They were established players by the time Cotts took over.

Joe and Bobby both had first team experience. And Bobby had done very little.

    Rose tinted specs.

Munro was decent for our level at the time. he did have a night to forget when he was playing I think at CB against Stan Colleymore for Forest. young Stanley tore Munro and us apart that night.  I think he got a hat-trick and left poor old Munro on his backside on the half-way line late on to run on and get his 3rd

I remember that game <<shudders>>, Collywobble absolutely destroyed us. Think it was 4-1? We were lucky it wasn't double figures.

    I'll raise you

Gus Ceasar, Julian [40] Watts, Marvin Harriott, Nicky Hunt, Stuart Munro, Stephen McManus, Matthew Bates, Clement Zuwinenberg, Brian Mitchell, Roger Kenyon with Shaun Dyche as the cherry on the top

Nicky Hunt was in a world of problems, none football related, when he was with us - wasn't he suffering from some serious MH issues? I think we can give him a pass.

Stuart Munro I recall being reasonable, if not outstanding. Compared to other team members at the time, he was absolutely golden.

  5. I'd have been curious to see who would have got the job had he left, but he seems to be a calming influence. Increasingly, it seems that a 'club' manager is not necessarily a good 'national' manager. But he does have the advantage of a truly exceptional group of players.

Now, let's see some of the 'solid' old-stagers like Henderson (a player I like) and Maguire (jury's out) challenged or replaced.

    Bellingham, though, wow.

I'd counter those who understand economics aren't in massive debt, or need of food banks or shelter because they know how to manage things for themselves. Must be I was lucky enough to grow up in an era and area full of economics experts, for despite BS13 residents not having a proverbial to proverbial in no kid I grew up with went hungry, nor undressed, nor without a roof over their head. Odd that, given 50 years ago residents comparatively had less disposable income than their equivalent today.

If this nation is 'wealthy', as you say, how come so many claim to be needy and why does the government have to bail out many tens of millions who claim to be struggling with the basics? How come its infrastructure and public services are falling apart despite tax take being at historically high levels?

That's politics, not economics. There is a concept in economics called 'market failure', which is where the market fails to provide appropriately for all consumers - which is why we need government to correct it by restructuring the market (eg increasing taxes, raising benefits, wages, etc). If we have food banks, that's because of the market failing and govt not correcting it.

Don't blame economics for the failures of policy.

Wealth, odd concept. Debt is easier to understand, its that owing to be repaid.

Every man, woman and child in the UK is indebted to the Government to the tune of £38,500 and rising.

Every man, woman and child in the UK is indebted to cover future public sector pension liabilities to the tune of £30,800 and rising.

Every man, woman and child in the UK is indebted to cover EXISTING public sector PPP/PFI off book liabilities to the tune of £2,800.

Excluding student loans, the average person in the UK is personally indebted to the tune of £33,400 and rising.

So the average UK citizen has unpaid liabilities in excess of £105k. Whilst some have assets to cover their indebtedness the majority do not. My kids and their kids will be expected to carry the burden of debt repayment. Were we truly 'wealthy' I'm not sure we'd be that indebted nor hang that millstone around the necks of future generations.

How to say you don't understand economics, without saying it

Or the Falklands, that's the reason I want them to lose they cost us a lot of brave men defending them and for that out of the French or them much as I have no love for the French either they are the lesser of two evils for me.

    Happy wife happy life .

I think the Argies lost a few as well...and we didn't need to lose anyone, there was a diplomatic solution in progress, but Thatcher wanted the war to boost her popularity. At the time, almost no-one knew where the Falklands were.

According to someone in the RAF that I used to know who was posted there, the locals in the Falklands hate the military who are there, and treat them like crap. Frankly, I think the Argentinians are welcome to the pointless rocks, and their ungrateful inhabitants. We'll take the saving on defence spending.

I quite agree. It is a disgrace that things have come to this. However, it’s the right thing to given the grossly inflated price of heating, let alone the homelessness crisis.

I don't disagree, but we shouldn't need 'warm banks'. And don't get me started on food banks...

Your point is correct when you refer to THIS England team. We are almost there but not quite. Previous England teams including the so called Golden Generation have not been close despite all the hype. What’s missing is that extra 2% of quality and belief that the very best have. France made their two spells where they were on top count, we only did it once. That’s the game and the difference at the very highest level in a nutshell.

Don't start me on them. The real 'gold' in there was Scholes, but all the focus was on Gerrard and Lampard. And Captain Moneybags.

Where was Carrick in that equation? HE was the answer to the "Gerrard and Lampard" question: instead it should have been "Gerrard OR Lampard plus Carrick"

My feeling is he's someone who managers and players will like more than fans in that, based off the impression given by managers, what he does well is execute the manager's tactical plan is the way they want it implemented but without being especially spectacular in doing so. But you could say the same about Jordan Henderson, who was racked up over 300 Liverpool appearances, a Premier League and Champions League medal and an international cup final without most fans working out what he is good at. (Mount obviously has the Champions League win and tournament final appearance too).

In Bristol City terminology, I think he's a bit like Matty James. James' contribution during games isn't always obvious but it was very obvious how much worse we were tactically when he was injured.

An 'engine room' player, then, like Carrick was?
