Twine won't do that will he let's be honest he's probably earning 5x the amount of money we would ever pay plus he has 2 more years on that very lucrative deal and is at a team who have a real shot at promotion back to the Premier leauge next season he won't let go of Burnley easily we have to hope Burnley want to cut there losses on him and lower there asking price because they want to reinvest the money for there promotion push.

    i preferred the original

I won't go Chapter and Verse but basically.

It goes down as a Fixed Asset Profit basically to offset Expenditure/Operating Losses.

A host of Championship clubs did this from 2017-18, in practice Spring 2018 to Spring 2021 ie the latter part of 2020-21. The loophole was resealed in Summer 2021 and was mostly Sale and Leaseback.

It isn't entirely if at all, a case of letting off the big club- it is basically a failure in Governance in keeping this escape route open.

i suppose clubs like Chelski and Man C have got those additional assets (hotels etc) to move about, smaller clubs like florist haven't otherwise they would be doing the same?

Maybe SL fancies a bit of it :)

  3. https://www.theguardian.com/football/2024/apr/19/chelseas-765m-hotel-deals-raise-questions-over-psr-compliance

it is staggering that the powers that be allow the movement of assets between wholly owned subsiduaries of the same company (BlueCo) plus there seems to be no actual market valuation done - thats Trump territory! -

Florist and the Everton lot must be pulling their hair out

it's so painfully one rule for most and another for the elite clubs, it's embarrassing

  4. we come back to the point that Steve Lansdown has had to chuck money at the problems he himself created.

this isn't repeated benevolence, more self interest.

His tenure started as financial director and much of the debt is entirely down to his dubious and some downright terrible choices

His driving ambition seems to be based around creating a complex and over priced business model which he hope to get a large pay day from, but I don't see that happening.

so either he lowers his financial ambition on payback, or we are in some eternal limbo.

I'll do one point at a time.

    1) Retro ? .... Exactly what I said on page 1 , I'm bored with it now. Lets have a new design.

    2) Design ? ....  I wonder how much freedom they would be given at ONeils to submit designs. Would Jon want to be in on it ? The rest they can do. The size , hard to please all the people i guess , but there's no reason ONeils can't do , minimalist , vibrant red and quality materials.

    3) Cost ? ... the Club must set the cost as we have been more expensive than other Clubs using the same  manufacturers . I don't see that changing . If they sell 5,000 shirts at £50 ( £250,000 ) then reducing the cost by £10 ( 200,000 ) they would have to shift over another 1,000 shirts . They obviously don't think it works.

My PoV is they are over priced for an average product that relies on the love of the Club over value for money.

    4) Badge ? ...  Well , with luck Jon would have been aware of the feeling about that and would have learnt a valuable lesson and wouldn't make that mistake again.

    5) Proper manufacturer ? ... As I put in my post, City ( Jon ) signed a multi year contract with ONeils . How many "multi" is I don't know , but I expect it's 2 years minimum , though IMO it implies 3 . I think we are with them for the coming season , but looking at the away , black kit , maybe they can come up with something good . I know that shirt has the logo from around 1974 , but if it was plain or patterned black it would be decent .

I think much of what we have disliked of kits recently has been down to Jon Lansdown . The Robin , over reliance on Retro etc . I don't necessarily blame him for going with ONeils in the first place. They had to find someone to do shirts in about a tenth of the time it normally takes to design and sully shirts . But unless they held him to ransom , why sign a multi year deal with a fairly small supplier ? Then I would ask why let yourself be held to ransom when you would be one of their biggest customers ?  The answer is it was Jon L !

In short , most of it IS to much to ask.

Do you recall the 'NIBOR' shirt brand - another example of one of the many doom loops we are so effortlessly capable of getting into. (money saving exercise by the club at the time)

as with so much with BCFC it comes down to the quality of decision making at senior management level, and we all know Steve doesn't like a challenge so we have inexperienced and seemingly inept people in positions of decision making. (not power) and then there's Jon...

I agree entirely about the 'retro' thing - are we not capable of finding a contemporary kit design that also translates into the leisure wear?

and while we all know kit manufacturers are more than happy to appear to reinvent the wheel in order to up their sales (Burnley wet look anyone?) there must be a strong designer out there who knows their stuff.

ONeils seem to trying to break into the mainstream Football market having got the Irish stuff and some rugby under their wing but look at their catalogue, its a sea of indifference and a lot just looks cheap and nasty (our yellow shirts for example, how can you get a colour wrong?)

I think we all want better, but have no one at the club we can hand on heart say is capable of delivering. kind of sad that.

Take it up with the EFL. They and their TV deal calls the shots re pricing and games shown on RTV. It's not the clubs decision.

It's always been like this, ever since RTV became a thing 5 or 6 years ago.

its definately worse though nowadays - perhaps we should be grateful for more SKY coverage ? but it makes having the RTV subscription a waste of time.

  7. i always recall a story i heard about Jack Charlton speaking at a footballers dinner event at Ashton Gate

apparently he opened with the hilarious line

"it's good to see Bristol City where they belong...19th in Division 2"

    (obv old divisions then)

    thats always stuck with me.

    sadly remains pretty accurate.

The non-availability of games selected for international broadcast was highlighted in the information put out at the start of the season and is included within the Terms and Conditions.

It was your choice to purchase based on the published details and Terms and Conditions so I don't see why any reasonable person would expect a refund.

thanks for that judgemental load of bollocks. have a nice day.

No refunds needed if you haven’t bought the game. If you pay monthly or annually then you take a chance I guess.  Bearing in mind most robins tv users are in the UK anyway I don’t blame the club for not refunding

i subscribe to the annual package, so not having games available (without prior warning)  should mean a refund.

if you buy a car and they take one of the wheels away, you'd expect recompense.

Both times the problem is the structure behind the manager. McInnes knew he was out of his depth and asked for help from the board and got none. Albeit in Scotland, McInnes has gone on to have a good career in management.

SOD seems to have had similar problems to Manning in style of play. SODs Donny teams were superb and great to watch. Despite some trying to diminish his previous achievements, Manning got both MK Dons and Oxford playing very attractive, attacking football. He was "fairly hot property" as you describe and likely would have been picked up by another Cship club this season, if not us.

The problem is both were/are operating in an empty vessel. Behind the scenes there's no structure, no plan, and frankly a couple of people out of their depth in the most senior positions.

It's the same as it was 10 years ago, and it's just become completely laughable.

SL never wanted a 'board' , thats been a problem for years that there never was a group to call out his selfish and often flawed decision making.

everyone in post at the club is a sock puppet or a lightning rod which is damning. at this time the senior management is woefully underqualified.

as you say SL has had a very long time to see the mistakes he's making, but keeps on doing the same shite again and again.

you'd think he might learn. but no, it  points at his vanity and his need to get a return on the 'investment' he has put in.

Bristol City head coach Liam Manning: ref todays game on BBC report...

"I didn't think overall in the game there was a huge amount of quality which is something that's not new to us. We have been speaking about it too much.

"There's a reason we are one of the lowest scorers in the league. We had 17 shots, 12 inside the box, and we don't really test the keeper at all. We have to improve.

"We have to have everyone stepping up and taking responsibility because again it wasn't good enough.

"Possibly it's confidence. Being good enough is the next bit. Players have to step up and deliver and execute. We have done it before but we haven't done it consistently enough.

"In 30-odd games, our highest scorer is six goals I think. When you look at it, we haven't scored enough goals."

We all see this but his thoughts and explanations are down to his team selections, I think he is deluded to think playing the way he sets us up can be anything other than BORING and we will never change the above unless HE Changes.

when you set up the team to play like he does, it's no surprise the shots on goal are minimal. when you play your right winger out of position on the left and then bring on a left sided player and play him on the right, even when it's crystal clear  Sykes is struggling out there. when the instructions are to try maintain possession & only play sideways and clearly no sense of how to get the ball forward.

how does he expect the players to deliver when the game plan is fundamentally wrong.

i would rather let in 3 and score 4 (simplistic i know, but you get my drift) than watch this shite

  13. you might consider another option

Would like not to, but cannot kick the habit.

i was trying to recall the last truly DULL manager we had when it went to shit - i suppose LJ , but even then there seemed to be a bit more about the club.

The Lansdowns have really truly f ucked this.

To quote Liam “That’s the biggest bit isn’t it”?

What @Cowshed accurately describes is the process of a rebuild. (And for gods sake nobody respond with “top six squad” etc etc).

In the process of a rebuild - if utopia is your only aim - then things can go wrong. Often. And in a lot of ways this is just another angle on what’s already been said about Liam - can he adapt his approach to stop those things going wrong until he reaches somewhere near utopia in all the sectors you identify.

Eg you replace Williams with Bird - you move a touch more towards ball retention, but it’s not the model Cowshed suggests. How do you play then?

You then replace Conway with a different type of front man - more physical - but it’s still not utopia. How do you play then?

You replace Mehmeti with someone with more nouse and game awareness - it’s another step. How do you play then?

(NB at any point this is not a mass change, but a tweak - going from A-B as opposed to the whole alphabet)

From the way Liam wants to play we are probably 2-3 seasons as I said from seeing results. What he has to do is not rip up the base and he has to be able to play at each stage. So if he thinks he has 40% of what he needs now - that’s fine. Play as close as you can to your principles in a way that utilises that 40% in the best way. If the summer gets you to 60% - great, tweak again. But you’re never getting to 100% so you always need to compromise.

In a nutshell, I think that’s what we saw with Nige. The annoyance is that I think we’d tipped over the 50% mark in the way he wanted us to play and from there it’s generally an upswing. We’ve reset though - we are where we are.

I’d repeat - there is a bit of a misconception over people’s misgivings around Liam. They are around adaptability, in game management etc - in short what happens when the plan doesn’t work or you can’t implement it as opposed to anything else. And getting from where he is to his utopia is pretty much just another strand to that - but if he can’t manage those transition periods - irrespective of what we can see the intent is, he won’t be here long.

and just a note regarding the potential level of squad 'churn'.

assume you can actually shift 1 or 2 players for money, (?) but given the state of the market this would mean we would be - once again - writing off a lot of players by terminating contracts or letting them go. Otherwise we will  end up with a Russell Osman size (and style) squad of overwhelming indifference!

not exactly a sustainable way of operating

So many of these threads begin with 'Posted Saturday 17.05' or similar.

I fully understand the frustration but I think LM deserves more time to work out how to get points out of a game, during the game, when we are being tactically out played.

he had a full 45 minutes on Saturday to see where the shortcomings were. he didn't get it fixed, he didn't change it  (enough to make a difference)

if you are suggesting we just give him 'more time' across the remainder of this season (where we were meant to be 'pushing for the play offs' - JL/SL/BT)  look at our points tally - we are heading in the wrong direction and will be very soon potentially worried about staying up.

Just ask yourself, which other professional football club would choose Jon Lansdown for their Chairman or indeed Brian Tinnion as their Technical Director.

    Maybe League 2?

They are both rank amateurs and should not be in post.

Incompetence is one thing but they take it to a whole new level!

both are only in post to serve as lightning rods for the owner.

Steve Lansdown has had all the time in the world to prove himself, but has only managed to oversee mediocrity and indecision, with the added bonus that this rudderless ownership has saddled us with considerable debt (which we are somehow grateful that he supports??) sadly he thinks he is building a sporting dynasty in the form of Barcelona,  not so Steve, not so.

    Step away.
