They finished 6 places above us in 88-89, 1 (painfully) in 89-90, 4 places ahead in 91-92, 3 in 95-96 and Malago is right, the only time they've finished above us since was by 2 places in 99-00.

    Loving that link TwoSheds!

    Poor, pitiful, almost!

Top man. That is a long time ago

So, back to my original point - is anyone scared by this lot!?

Think it was 15 years ago.

That's what it is in my head too, I know I was childless when it happened....

It's only once in the last 20 years, 99/00, when Pulis did for us.

What a tosser that bloke was. Even more reason to dislike the smug *****

I was just discussing this with my younger son - aged 23. He can't really remember us playing Rovers in the league, as we've not done so since he was at primary school. It's almost exactly 30 years since Rovers left Eastville…a footballing lifetime. In that time they've finished above us on just 5 occasions…and never by more than 6 places…which for local "rivals" is a pitiful record.

I've been going since 87, so getting on for 30 years too....is that true they've only finished above us 5 times, I'd have put money on it being more. Pitiful, I like that word when it comes to talking about the blue few

Someone will know when they were last above us, remember someone quoting how many days it was not so long back, anyone??

Well, we've got Bolton to be scared of first. Then the likes of Hull City, Derby County, Sheffield Wednesday, Blackburn, QPR - you know, clubs that were in the Premier League, clubs trying to get back to the Premier League.

You can only worry about so much at any one time.

If it's any consolation to them, I'll worry about Rovers over the summer when we haven't got trying to beat clubs like Derby and Wednesday to worry about. Then we can worry about little old L2 clubs up the road

What year was it we were last worried about them, from a derby / league table point of view?

No I'm not scared of them, but more to the point I wouldn't swop a single thing about our club for anything they have. The ONLY thing I can seriously come up with that might be slightly better is their pasties if they still have them. I wouldn't want their players, manager, chairman, ground, prices, kit, in fact apart from the pasties absolutely nothing.

Beautifully put, M. Can't argue with any of that. Not been there for a long, long time, but their pasties were good!

    Another gem from asschat.

Did anyone expect us to win?

As for the other lot, **** em? Wael has said how important a stadium is regardless of today's result. They've been backed by billions and achieved **** all except for bouncing between League 1 and the Championship, and are just making the most of the little time that they have left above us. They've mocked DC and he's turned out to be excellent and a breath of fresh air, they've mocked the way we've been ran, and now we're being ran well, they've mocked the way we have no money, and now we do.

They're scared and they don't want to admit it.

That is a whole lot of wrong

Quick poll - is anyone scared of the Blue Few? I'll start it off - I'm not

    Love this post on Gaschat

Not a surprise, still think Sainsbury's are also loser in this whole business as the store would have been a gold mine and they would have made good money there, shame they are too short sighted to see that. One thing is guaranteed I will never spend any money in their stores and I am sure lots of other people in Bristol have either cut back their visits or will continue to boycott them. If they buy Argos I will boycott them as well.

If only that Gashead would have told Sainsbury's that this new store would have been a goldmine they'd have never pulled out of the deal.

Despite them employing all manner of retail analysts who came to the conclusion that the store wouldn't be a goldmine some bedroom retail expert knew more.

That is brilliant. I'm sure they will look back and regret that they took on, and beat, a club with such a long and prowed history, and with a fan base the envy of many

Tell me, Mr Sainsbury, where did it all go wrong?

  7. Any idea what the legal costs could be on this? I know their owner is the richest man in the world, but that still has to hurt

Ain't it just ******* brilliant, though? All the Blue Few that have piped up on fb & twitter lately, relegation parties planned, the gap closing, Bill Gates in charge, the derby to look forward to again next season, then overtaking us....KA*******BOOM, back in the room my little sausages, back in the room

Wembley got built and is a great experience on a matchday. You had a good day out in 2008 so cant complain...

Oh my - is that the best you've got? Taking the piss because we lost a Championship play off final, a game you lot can only dream about ever playing in

Anyway, do us a favour - **** off

Do they really call it the 'Gas house', wtf is a gas house? Only think that comes to mind is a gas chamber, surely they don't want to be linked to those?

As for 'chasing you down' - that's been going on for some time now, not really working out for you, is it, baggins? I'd also pick you up on the 'achieved nothing' part, but I doubt you're intelligent enough to even start that debate

  10. Hoddle is my childhood hero, so I'd love to see him here. I can imagine one or two who wouldn't for the incredibly stupid crap he came out with about disabled people, and I would completely understand that

I don't get the feeling that GH is going to want to get his hands dirty on the day to day stuff now though. Maybe he could be in an advisory capacity with a younger manager, Justin Edinburgh, perhaps

From that list I've gone for Pearson. I don't think the board have the spine to appoint someone who will tell them what they don't want to hear though

I reckon Colin, until end of season, and see where we wake up come 1st July, will be more likely

For all you lesser counties

Gutted we are not playing up your way this season - always a great day out in Worcester, at a really nice little ground

    Thank you, kind sir!

The new ground looks really nice, haven't managed a day up there since the rebuild

I'm not sure about it at all, but at least they're doing it over both divisions and haven't just lumbered the second division teams with it.

Yeah, seemed an odd initial statement that they would try it in Div 2, presumably Div 1 teams don't need to doctor their pitch to suit their needs....!?

Good idea on balance, I think. It will stop counties taking a chance and fiddling wickets to their own advantage. The downside might be that we get more flat tracks designed not to do too much for 4 days and a lot of draws as a result. Worth a go for a year maybe....

Not convinced myself, though I'm glad they're doing something to try and breathe a bit of life back into the county 4 day game. You'll just end up with either flat, lifeless wickets or wearing ones that favour the team bowling last. It won't help create international-class players and won't help make results. I think it'd go down like a lead balloon, but perhaps limiting the overs in the 4 day game might help create results and excitement- perhaps 90 overs per innings? It'd undoubtedly be a nail in the coffin of the longer format, but that's dying all by itself at the minute anyway, so what do we have to lose?

As you both allude to, something needs to change. I guess anything is worth a go before we end up with 6 or 8 regional teams rather than the current county system, which is the only way I can see it going, unfortunately

  15. Was I the only one happy when this bloody thread was on page 3?  Can't stand seeing bloody basement rovers pop up again on OTIB.

Can't we just forget they exist?

We could, Kev. But they just give us so much
Marvel in their new 'matchday cabin'. I want to ruffle their hair and give them some chocolate before bedtime
