Lansdown is bloody lucky we had the shite history before him, fans way too accepting of mediocre and our place in the hierarchy

Given our fanbase and resources it's been 25 years of utter failure

Absolutely. Let us remember that also in those 25 years, Blackpool, Bmouth, Luton, Brighton, Cardiff, Swansea, Brentford etc etc have all tasted the Premier League before we have.

Bar the infrastructure it has been a complete and utter failure.

The problem was that FFFP wise the damage had already been done. Pep could have been brought in and the constraints would have been the same as Holden and Pearson were working under. Holden was just too inexperienced to work under those constraints.

Damage was done the moment Lansdown didn't cut his losses on LJ and just thought that throwing more and more money at it would be the solution.

Credit to Ipswich and if it ever was proof that Mark Ashton was never the real issue than this surely is it. Steve Lansdown is utterly clueless at running a successful football club at this level it has been proven time and time again.

After getting promoted together in the 2014/15 season, Preston have now finished above us eight times out of nine in the Championship.

A pretty embarrassing stat considering the tens of millions we have thrown at it in that time aswell in comparison to them..

  4. Im surprised people even still bother with the club shop or any club merchandise at all to be honest.

Been done to death on here over the years and it only looks to get progressively worse every year with nobody at the club seemingly thinking it is an issue.

You'd hope that if and when we get new investors this will be the first thing they will look at improving because the Lansdown's seem incapable of employing people that can.

  5. You'd imagine that behind closed doors and within the Lansdown family this one will be of particular embarrassment to them and in particular Steve.

Echo what others have said, Ashton was never held accountable for the over spending on bang average players. I remember at the height of the Ashton circus the amount of abuse he was personally getting from the fanbase.

It was only a small minority who could see the bigger picture that in actual fact it was those above him allowing him to have free reign that are the issue at this football club and shock horror they are still here.

Like i said its just yet another embarrassment for Steve to go alongside all the other hideous mistakes he has made here.

Hello. I don’t know if this is a good idea to post, but I’m the dad of the child - my son, Jay (not his real name) - that ran onto the pitch in the early stages of the match. First and foremost, I want to offer a profound apology to you all, to every fan, the players and clubs for Jay’s actions. I’d like to try and provide some context, if you’ll let me, to help explain what happened and why.

Jay has just turned 11. He has autism and is suffering from PTSD after 3 years of physical abuse at school, being restrained by teaching staff (which was concealed from us). Both of these conditions create complex issues for Jay, one of which is he is heightened to what he may (incorrectly) perceive of as a threat, causing he to flee. This is what we think happened on Saturday.

We were enjoying the game and then all of a sudden, he said he needed to go to the toilet. I asked him to wait and then before I knew it, he said ‘I’m going to the toilet’, for up and walked down the steps. I was about to go after him and then - out of nowhere, he turned and jumped the barrier. We were stocked and horrified. We couldn’t believe it. I tried to shout to him but he couldn’t hear me. At that point, I was really worried for him. He didn’t know what he was doing. As I ran to jump the barrier, I saw him fall. I (worryingly) thought he’d be tackled and - rightly or wrongly - I got protective of my little boy. When I got to him, he was petrified. I said ‘it’s ok I’ve got you’ turned to get him off the pitch but the Rotherham fans were shouting hateful comments, threats and abuse at him. Again, I should have reacted much better, but I responded to protect my child. I know it doesn’t look like he was scared - we do not condone he sticking his finger up - but this is a know protective response from children with disabilities like Jay. I felt exposed and vulnerable myself and so went into ‘fight’ mode. To be honest, it’s all blur. I was saying to him ‘it’s ok, I’ll get you out of here’.

The stewards tried to direct me off the other side of the pitch but I was worried about my eldest son, who was all alone in the stand. I just ran off and left him. He was so scared too. The stewards then grabbed me and I tried to say I’m just protecting Jay.

Again, I am sorry deeply sorry to you all. This shouldn’t have happened and I take full responsibility. I’m sorry. My family are devastated, for lots of reasons, about what happened. I’m worried about my job, Jay being identified and targeted. The ongoing social media hate is really hard to deal with. I get why people are so angry. Football is precious and match days are special and to be treated as such. What Jay did was not acceptable but I hope, by posting this, you might be able to understand it more. This was about disabilities and the difficulty of managing them daily. I messed up and let Jay down. It will take me a long time to get over this. As his father I must do better.

    Please accept my apologies.

Fair play for coming on and sharing that, as others have said takes a huge amount of courage to do so.

Certainly a lesson to many that as a society we really shouldn't be so quick to judge / condemn others without knowing the full story of such situations.

If they stay up, they will want to cut losses on him. And if they come down, they will be looking to chop squad generally and cash in a bit. And who would pay 5m for him (and I say that as someone who really likes him). Assuming his market is the championship, then not many will have 5m to spend on him - maybe one of the relegated teams I guess.

We obviously can't do 5m for him; probably not even half that. But if there was a chance at a price that didnt spunk our entire budget on one player, I'd be really keen to keep him.

Obviously purely speculation on my part but i have a feeling Manning will be backed fairly heavily this window, we have seen it before with LJ and i wouldn't at all be surprised if we did sign him for £5m or close to that the powers that be would still find plenty left in the infamous 'nest egg' to give Manning and Tinnion the other targets they want..

I particularly liked the bit where he said that we can talk about being ambitious (which is why he joined us) but we have to show that in terms of our actions re the squad in the summer. Over to you SL.

Yup, very interesting. I said on another thread a few weeks back that i personally feel he will get backed heavily this summer.

Very good interview with Dele Alli on MNF. He seems in a much better place now, mentally. Talking about wanting it again and being hungry. Only 28.  Will be interesting to see where he goes next.  Wants to go to the World Cup in 2026.  His priority needs to be going to somewhere where he will play.

I would be absolutely amazed if he is ever in contention for England again. We have far too much talent in the position he plays and even more coming through at u21 level and below. It would take a monumental turn around in form and consistency from Dele and also a manager who is willing to take a risk and block the pathway of a younger player coming through the England youth system. Cannot see it personally.

I think he realistically just needs to get back playing regular football again, i agree with @Fpcity actually that a move to Celtic or Rangers could be very good shout just to kickstart his career again.

Another class goal has to be on the plane.

    Just scored another!

Agreed he is such a talent.

In forward areas we are as strong as any nation in the world at the monent especially with the depth of talent we have.

It's defensively i worry and on tonights showing Pickford is not a goalkeeper that should fill us with any confidence going into a major tournament..

  11. It's a tough one, you can see glimpses of his quality but i agree with the general consensus that he probably hasn't done enough to warrant the quoted £4 million plus im sure a fairly decent wage on top of that.

As others have said, we have been down this road before with players like Kasey Palmer, Kalas etc etc. Big transfer fee's and wages for players that just haven't produced for us. Twine could be different of course but it would be a big gamble based on what we have seen from him thus far.

What i am intrigued to see this summer is what sort of budget Manning is going to have to play with. It wouldn't surprise me at all to see a LJ style warchest given to Manning this summer in which case it wouldn't surprise me at all if we did sign Twine..

Exactly this and those wins were both thrilling and we created numerous chances. Unlike the Blackburn game.

Performances and results? Are you joking? It’s been dire and scrappy!

Blackburn at Home was 'dire' was it? fair enough if you think it was but our definition of the word is obviously miles apart. Again Plymouth away was a hard fought victory where we were by far the better team for large periods and deservedly won. We got lucky against Leicester granted but we still won the game.

Look im by far the biggest fan of Manning and the absolute disgraceful way that Nige was treated but lets look objectively at recent results and give Manning some credit.
