The government did a very effective job in scaring people in order to keep them at home, unfortunately it’s been so effective that people have been led to believe that they won’t be safe until there’s a vaccine, but it’s worth noting the mortality rate from coronavirus is 0.04% of the population, that’s not much consolation to their families i admit but it’s unrealistic to stop all of life’s activities until a vaccine has been found

To answer the original question of when football should return, there’s no real right or wrong answer to that but this season is probably a write off as it’s just too complex with too little time to get it up and running again anytime soon

    That’s interesting.

What source are you using for the 0.04% mortality rate of covid-19?

    https://coronavirus.jhu.edu/data/mortality

John Hopkins suggests the mortality rate of the virus is far higher.

If you are referring to just the rate per 100k of the population, then any medical professional will tell you that’s not how you judge the threat.

The Sun, do you mean the paper with the largest daily circulation in the UK (apart from one other which is free) why apologise, either people are lying about reading it (due to its circulation) or there are a lot of hypocrites that read it but pretend to be outraged about it, personally I only buy it on a Saturday, but let's not play at being outraged by it's existence because of what went on about the Liverpool reporting, they made a huge error of judgment we now know with hindsight they were completely wrong, hold your hands up who hasn't done the same at some point?

Awful paper. I always find it depressing but not surprising people consume the tabloids and broadloids as they do.

I don’t think I’d mind as much if they presented themselves as magazines, clear in their opinion and agenda, but to present themselves as newspapers is deplorable.

If you had to publish your sports reporting and lifestyle magazines separately, the circulations would drop monumentally.

And yes, as a football fan you should always be disgusted by the way Bettison, the Sun, Ingham and Thatcher immediately began to cover up the police failings on the day by blaming and discrediting football fans. Their actions, lies, discrediting and cover up over the following years, is the real crime and evil of Hillsborough, not Duckenfield’s incompetence on the day.

It could have been any set of fans.

  3. What annoys me is how everything is driven by money. Football isn’t important, it’s just a game, yet somehow we’ve let money and greed consume it. The truth is it really wouldn’t matter if we just stopped this season and started again in August/September.

    It really doesn’t matter.

When you pose arguments for why we should finish it, the truth is they always boil down to money.

    Sad and depressing .

Problem is this government usually U-turns when public outrage blows up. Similar to when they wanted the elderly to pay for their social care by selling their houses.

Think about that for a second.

If people didn’t kick off they would have went ahead with doing nothing and letting the majority of the population catch it resulting in excessive deaths. So it isn’t as simple to say people are playing politics.

Truth is always somewhere in the middle.

I can only talk about grassroots live music, entertainment and arts venues, which including pubs that put events on and I can promise you they will be affected by this. They have taken the professional advice and they know they are affected and that they would have been covered by insurance if closure had been ordered, which is why I find it so odd that people who have not seen their insurance documents, nor spoken to their insurers are adamant the professional advice they have been given is wrong.

‘Shows and Event’ can be slightly different and offer cancellation cover akin to a travel policy. However these tend to be geared toward one off or annual events.

A small music venue hosting regular local bands would have standard commercial insurance and the vast majority would not have this cover.

What I’m finding is it isn’t the short sharp shock that can’t be absorbed, it’s the longevity of its nature.

We reviewed our own BCP 2 weeks ago and discovered that a major weakness was assuming that a longer shutdown would be ‘site specific’ and not nationwide.

Its these kind of unforeseen issues, never taking ‘human disease’ extension as we never thought it would be applicable, that are causing a challenge.

On a positive, we saved the banks 10 years ago (then paid for it through austerity) now they can save us.

    Funny old world eh?

I doubt many small businesses have insurance that covers such a scenario, so not sure how that is protecting insurance companies, it’s big one off events like Glastonbury that are likely to be insured, rather than a local pub or restaurant.

You would possibly need a ‘Human Disease’ extension under your Business Interruption’ section of your commercial insurance, obviously subject to policy wording.

The truth is very few will have this. Some will say they never knew, the vast majority just probably wouldn’t have paid for it as they saw the risk as so small.

Some people struggle to justify basics like ‘storm and flood’, let alone obscure extensions to BI.

Not sure it's for SL to do anything about.

It kinda smacks of 'the city of Bristol apologising yet again for 'our' involvement with the slave trade'.

Quite agree that it is a barbaric  bit of history, but at what point can a current generation be left to reflect without needing to apologise or try and correct the mistakes of forefathers?

Same with 82, the players have had a couple of testimonials and they shared a lump sum of money (which they wouldn't have got had it not been for the new saviors) but businesses across the City were owed money and countless other people impacted.

So keep singing their names, remember how far we have come since 82 and be grateful for where we are now.

I know what I would do.

I understand that people want it acknowledged, but ow many milestones/achievements/memorials are marked on the 38th,or any other random number, anniversary? I think the club will honour the past in two years time, but I understand why they wouldn’t every year.

I wouldn’t get to focused on the ‘38th’ but, the more relevant point is how this players are remembered or honored by the club.

Dare I say it, but I’d like to think if I was billionaire Steve Lansdown, I would have thought a lot more about this situation and what could be done for those players today.

  9. Starts with with wage caps from the top down.

Sick to the back ******* teeth of football and it starts with the c**** at the very top of the premier league and scummy clubs like Liverpool etc. who believe that foitball owes them a Devine right because Paul in Exeter or Dev in Hounslow buys a Liverpool shirt instead of just being proud of where there from and supporting there club.

I cannot tell you how annoyed I am when my kids are asked who they support and when they reply City, they are then asked, and which premiership team.

    C****.

Ive almost had enough, very close now.

Now Notts county are no longer in the league, who takes over there mantle of oldest club in league? It would seem Stoke (1863) and forest(65) are the main contenders, with Villa, Reading, and Weds not far behind, our neighbours are about 28th(1883)love em or hate em they seem to survive what ever, while MK (2004)AFC WIM(2002)Fleetwood(1997)Newport 1984 and City 1982 are the relative new boys?

    Ha, Brilliant.
