Cardiff City To Be Re-Branded

This is rediculous - fans of all clubs should protest this, it should not be allowed. If it happens to Cardiff it will only be a matter of time before other clubs follow suit killing the history of football, We will end up with some weird franchise system and every penny any of us have spent on football tickets will have been a waste. I would not support' Bristol Red Bulls' at the 'gives you wings stadium!'

Part of the problem is we are over a barrel here. Do as the owners want or risk them f-ing off to the other side of the world and picking any club to fulfill their ambitions.

Red or Dead potentially sums it up

They might simply come over the bridge to a team that already plays in red .

Unfortunately we slayed the dragon though.

So whilst bored in work (which is pretty frequent) i thought about how we would be re-branded if this happened to us...

Lacking any national symbols appealing to the Asian market except drunk brits abroad harassing girls and not so girls in Thailand...

And assuming the other half are still around to have first shot at Bristol Buccaneers/Pirates...

Then all i could come up with was the Bristol Mariners a take on the Central Coast Mariners over here in oz.

Our new badge could be an image of one of the super transporters steaming into Royal Portbury with a new load of Datsun's for the British public.

I don't know about you but i think it would be a winner with the Asian Market especially Japan having such allegiances to there car markets!

p.s. i know the club sometimes read the forum so i'm going to copyright my idea in the hope that when the franchising starts i get a nice cut of the royalties!

oh dear.....I knew football had sold his soul a while back, but this is something else. " if it means not having to go through another last gasp fail to get promoted he would probably accept it.". Not too long ago they were a division 3/4 side. This desperation for instant success will continue to put clubs on the brink...(Bradford City, Pompey et al). I'd be disgusted if they were my side....

Red bull already have 2 clubs. New york and one in austria? The austrian club is completely unrecognisable to what it was before they came in. Winning alot more for sure but no sole to the club at all. Only a matter of time before it happens here. At the end of the day money talks unfortunately

Plus one in Germany as well and all those hockey clubs, another two or three...

Why is that? Austria, a country culturally similar to Germany is one of the worst countries for things like that.

True, but German football laws / German FA rules do not allow name / crest / colour changes plus 90% of the clubs have a legal structure that do not allow it as well...

How did Cardiff become £72 million in debt and close to going to the wall when our dear friend CBL was telling us last summer that their finacial problems were at an end thanks to these Malaysaians? As someone has said, £100 mill doesnt go that far if it is to be used to pay off that debt.

What happens if 5 years down the line Cardiff are still in the Championship? Are these owners gonna stick around and see the club through or up sticks and buy another club they think will have a chance of selling shirts in the far east? Like more and more clubs, they saw a quick fix solution grabbed it and will now pay for it with their history and what (little) respect they have with football fans throughout the land.

What shocks me is that how the fans are agreing to this so readily (no pun intended). "Oh but it's exciting". I would rather my club drops to the bottom tier of football than change the colour, badge or name.

Once they get away with it you have to wonder who's next? Football is selling it's soul. City fans need to be carefull what they wish for, otherwise it could be us next........ not that i would be here to watch it happen

You can't 'kill the history of football'. Many teams have changed their identities and colours over the years. It's not a big deal. If the fans are happy with it then why not?

'I would rather my club drops to the bottom tier of football than change the colour, badge or name.'

Jesus, really? You would rather the club dropped to the bottom tier of football than change the BADGE?! What planet are you on? City have changed the badge at least twice during my lifetime and I don't remember any mass protests.

If you buy into football in it's present hyper-commercialised form, then you have to expect that the fat cats who own the game are going to exploit the commercial potential in any way they can. That's the nature of the game these days, sadly.

Well a chunk of the debt is owed to the Malaysian's, they have previously turned some of that into shares and I would imagine they would again and thus take full control. Having spoken to a couple of fans who are accountants who have looked at the latest accounts they firmly believe things are better than they were.

Nobody would really want to change the kit colour, the crest has been changed many times although one of the constants has been the bluebird which would be very sad to lose completely.

The problem we have is if they pull out the level of debt is such that we would likely find it hard to stay in existence let alone a decent level of football. The possible change would come with the clearing of the debt to Sam and of course the Malaysians converting their current debt to shares and thus making us virtually debt free.

To just change colour on the basis of going for the top flight I wouldn't be happy, I'm not happy now but when you take away the investment by these people it is more a case of change colour or we could end up completely going out of business. We are all attached to our club colours but the reason I love my club isn't due to the kit colour, it's my club and I love going with my family and always have, if it's a choice between no club or a red kit then it may be something we have to take on the chin.

The protests will be though that all this can be achieved while in blue, the marketing benefits are far from convincing and any superstitions are immediately ended when I think of what my national team play in.

We want to stay in blue but ultimately it will not be our choice, I do though believe this has all been leaked earlier to gauge the views of the supporters trust and fans, I think nothing is quite set in stone yet and there may well be a few compromises.

I don't know what to think deep down though or how I will feel seeing us play in red home and blue away, all a bit out of the blue.

You must begin to wonder if you wanted any of this.

We all want to get to the Premier League but I'm not sure with all these strings attached.

Where is the romance of your local club any more? There is something just fantastic about watching your local club in a traditional, windswept stadium. A cup of tea and a meat pie. Good honest footballers kicking about in the mud. A whole experience to share with your own kids, and their kids .... you had all this a few years ago.

In the space of a few years you've moved to a (relatively) soulless ground, about to change to a red couloured, foreign owned play-thing with debts to make your eyes water. You all wanted Prem football, but I can't believe any of you wanted it on this basis.

Sincerely, I'd be really quite upset. Even though its Cardiff I think its awful. I want Cardiff City to be Cardiff City. I can't see that any of the tradition remains now. Its bloody awful.

It all reminds me of Trigger's broom. The handle and the head have been changed but he still insists its the same broom. Its not.

Unfortunately the obsession with getting to the Premier League has become the be-all and end-all of football. Fans seems to have forgotten why they even bothered to turn up to games in the first place. Surely it was for the matchday experience and supporting your local club. You don't need the Premier League for that.

Yes really. When i started going to City in the 80's we had the robin badge and then changed back to the original badge of the coat of arms of Bristol. Nothing wrong with that. Nor is there anything wrong with "tidying" up the badge. But to change it completley would really get my back up and mess with the traditions of the club that my Dad and his Dad and his Dad witnessed

Unfortunately football changed a long time ago as you say, the amount of money involved has changed the game forever and there is no going back.

Personally I'm not happy with it, they can still invest with us in blue shirts, however taking the idea of prem football out of the equation it is likely we need this investment just to have a club financially secure so that one day I can enjoy it with my own kids.

The history of the club remains in tact, my memories of Ninian Park and us in blue will always be there.

If this goes through completely I would be surprised, I think elements of the proposal will change over the next couple of weeks to allow some of the tradition to remain.

For me the main tradition though is that it is Cardiff City playing in Cardiff, if we do to change to a red kit though it is going to beyond surreal when most of the fans are wearing blue and chanting bluebirds.

If it happens and I hope it doesn't we wouldn't be the first club and we most certainly will not be the last, the latest FFP rules will change football over the coming years again, soon top flight status will be gained by applying over a number of years.

I'd have said the same yesterday. At this precise moment I find it exciting.

A bit like if you've had 4-5 years of let downs with your wife and Megan Fox walks into a bar grabs you by the shirt and demands to take you to bed..

I'd finish my beer mind. However, it's as if Megan walks into the bar and promises to take you to bed as long as you don't mind her shouting "Vincent" at you during climax.

It would take some thinking about. (Unless you're called Vincent).

People may be interested in the website below, which demonstrates how much strips have changed over the years. Check out Crystal Palace's various strips over the years.

Fascinating that colours were much more adventurous in the late 19th early/20th century

Great website! Thanks.

Am I allowed to say I quite like the Black Arabs first strip?

I were a Cardiff fan my biggest question would be:

What are they going to do next?

Changing the colours, badge and potentially the name, says that the board has no respect for the fans or more worryingly, the clubs history.

If it was us, I'd be crapping myself, as it's not and instead it's one of our rivals, I'll just sit back and enjoy the ride......

(the Annis Abraham/Carl Curtis posse)

Haha

This reminds me of the comment of my Cardiff supporting work colleague.

I can't even remember why we were talking about it etc but the comment was "Annis is possibly one of the biggest c*ckheads I have had the misfortune of meeting."

Lovely comment for one of 'your own fans' but he refuses to budge on that evaluation!

I hear the tattooists in Cardiff have been buying alot of red ink to 'rebrand' all the bluebird redbird tattoos!

Imagine having your club emblem permanently marked onto your arm and then this happens?

Whhooooopps!!

He's a cock living off his fathers reputation.

A wannabe thug, who always has someone "take out the rubbish" for him.

I could dig a bit further bit I'd prefer not to waste my time, TOOL.

Let's be honest here, many clubs now in foreign hands are being run in a very similar way, where the fans are just not consulted, just look today at Blackburn and Hull. The old farts in power at the football league and premier league need a overhaul of their 'fit and proper' owner rules and put more restrictions on what is and is not allowed as well as proper financial checks on prospective owners and the fans have their part to play, instead of just rejoicing in the fact that after years of dodgy dealings of their previous chairman and near death experiences in rides a foreign investor with a bunch of promises, they need to ask more questions and seek assurances, just ask Portsmouth fans.

Its Cardiff this time, so fingers crossed it goes tits up like the rest of the teams before them.

What will other clubs with autocratic owners do next if Cardiff fans are as weak and compliant as the views on here suggest?

Anything they can get away with.

So long as there are 92 clubs competing to have more money than those around them, there is no end to the gold rush.
