Cardiff City To Be Re-Branded

All I can say is that, it's causing a massive stir here in Catdiff and the vast majority of fans are livid. With 15,000 season tickets sold, I'd say it's a case of like it or lump it.

There may be trouble ahead.....

There is little evidence that the voices of fans have much impact at all.

Money and success are all that matter.

And whilst fans may spout disapproval, the same fans will still turn up. Who remembers the thousands of Man U fans who said they'd never return to OT once the Glazers took over? I'd wager a large amount that they quietly returned to their seats the following season without giving up their season tickets.

You can't 'kill the history of football'. Many teams have changed their identities and colours over the years. It's not a big deal. If the fans are happy with it then why not?

'I would rather my club drops to the bottom tier of football than change the colour, badge or name.'

Jesus, really? You would rather the club dropped to the bottom tier of football than change the BADGE?! What planet are you on? City have changed the badge at least twice during my lifetime and I don't remember any mass protests.

If you buy into football in it's present hyper-commercialised form, then you have to expect that the fat cats who own the game are going to exploit the commercial potential in any way they can. That's the nature of the game these days, sadly.

Its not the changing of the badge or the colours that bother me its the reason for doing it and the precident that sets. If foriegn investors think its ok to change the identity of football clubs to try and sell more shirts whats to stop that happening to every club, then the next step on from that would be to start having sponsered team names or moving the club to pleaces with bigger catchment areas, etc etc. I'm probably over reacting but it just seems wrong to me.

Changing our badge from a robin to the city's coat of arms is a bit different to changing our identity at the whim of someone with no historical interest in the club. Out of interest what was the reasoning behind changing our badge?

I wonder what Welsh dragon emblem will adorn the new red shirts, they've got a lot to choose from.

My french neighbour went to the Wales v France rugby international in Cardiff and was scared shitless, he said he had never seen so many young women, drunk, passed out, vomiting and wearing so little clothing at 7 in the evening. Mind you I did tell him if that frightened keep well away from Newcastle.

Standard fair for most young and old South wales lasses. Absolute shocker going there or meeting groups of them around the country. from 17-70 they don't seem to grow out of it. Most of the mouthy with it.

The Supporters Club have this evening been represented at a hastily convened meeting at Cardiff City Stadium, also attended by members of the Cardiff City Supporters Trust and reps from Cardiff's independent travel groups and messageboards. In attendance from the football club were Alan Whiteley, Julian Jenkins, Wayne Nash and Barry Macauliffe.

The meeting was called following internet rumours regarding a re-branding of the club which appeared over the last 24 hours and the following details were confirmed:

Cardiff City's home kit next season will be red shirts with a black flash, black shorts and red socks

The new badge incorporates a red dragon in a shield, with the words Cardiff City FC, est 1899

The away kit will be blue

The bluebird will not feature on any replica kit or official badge

The seats in the stadium will remain blue

A total investment of £100m by Vincent Tan, as equity not debt. This investment is on the proviso of agreement being reach with Langstone (agreement is very close). The investment will wipe out all debt as well as fund a state of the art training complex, stadium expansion to 35k and an increased playing budget

The club have no plans to offer refunds to the 16,000 season ticket holders who purchased tickets prior to this announcement

The meeting was told that the change to red kit and Welsh dragon badge was non-negotiable and there was no viable alternative for the Board but to accept the proposals as the club could not survive financially without the investment.

The majority of attendees spoke out against the proposals and some stated they would prefer the Malaysian backers to pull out rather than lose our identity and take whatever consequences, however some were happy to accept the change to guarantee the future of Cardiff City.

This is a fundamental change to our football club and now we need to canvass the opinion of our members as soon as possible to gauge the strength of feeling towards these changes, which are being implemented without any consultation of the fans.

Please email your thoughts to info@ccsc.co.uk and include your name and CCSC membership number. We will take all of your views on board and make any decisions based upon your feedback. Remember, this is your football club, so do make sure you let us know your thoughts, good, bad or indifferent.

I once braved a night out at a pub/disco called the black Prince in Llantrisant, i'm sure the baadiff fans who contribute on here must have heard or even been there. it is basically in the middle of nowhere but used to be packed most nights, the advice for the night from my welsh mates was "don't bother to chat women up, you won't need to" and it was good advice, my memory of the night was like the drug scene from Apocalypse Now, I still have flash backs.

My feelings are mixed over this issue. To see another set of fans have to suffer this happening to their football club is genuinely sad to see and my major concern is whether this will open up the floodgates to this type of thing happening to football clubs all through the leagues. I would rather watch City in the Blue Square South than watch us playing in Blue and randomly having a Giraffe as our badge.

On the other hand, it is happening to Cardiff and for that reason it is absolutely hilarious!

Is there any truth to the rumour that all the games involving Cardiff (sorry, I mean Malaysian Red Dragons) will be kicking off at 2:30 am to fit in with Asian time until such time as the new stadium in Kuala Lumpur is complete?

Yes 3.00 pm is unlucky !

I've heard a rumour that Lansdown is planning similar rebranding over here with City facing a name change to "Bristol Twenty".

The thoughts behind this change of name is that as long as we score one goal we may fool the FL into awarding us the points regardless of how sieve like our defence may be.

On SSN now over 1,000 fans have signed an on line petition to stop the shirts changing from blue to red and the nickname changing from the Bluebirds to the Dragons. I'm no Cardiff fan, but I'm with their fans on this one.

Presumably it's (yet another case of ) To hell with the fans and tradition etc; here's a new and hopefully money making venture.
