I always think history such as this is overstated as a factor. Personally I think previous play off failure under different management and an entirely different playing staff is almost irrelevant to the performance of the current team on the day. Psychologically I would say Preston's failure to gain automatic promotion this season, having looked almost nailed on at one point, is much more relevant.
