The fiercest UK rivalry...

Bristol City & Bristol Rovers:

Looking at the current results, it's bullshit.

Not saying our rivalry is the 'fiercest', but just google both teams names together and you'll find a differing contrast of pictures.

Man U & Liverpool has the danger of throwing prawn sandwiches in comparison to how things are passionate and 'feisty' when Bristol City & Rovers meet.

So what I'm saying is that survey has got some well manufactured and unmeasured bias :)

Me, personally - from that list I'd say Millwall v W'Ham has got to be up there. None of this plastic 'rivalry' you come across.

Like I said I have been to both and Bristol is pretty tame.

Have some mates who follow Blackburn, they tell me the Burnley game is absolute bedlam. Quite tempted to go up with them some time to see what it's all about

Mark Hughes, who (as I'm sure you know) played in many big derbies for multiple different clubs, described it something along the lines of  "the maddest derby ever" when he was Blackburn manager.

People forget how close their grounds are and how much history there is between them, not only as football clubs but towns as a whole.

No mention of Preston/blackpool,  Blackburn/Burnley etc

Pretty nuts by all accounts.  But the papers don't care about those teams, as they're not in the Premiershit.

Man Utd vs Liverpool is frankly not even close.

As for the North London derby, that's a Vicar's tea party.  Went to a Bristol derby at the 'Gate in the 90s (the one on Sky, 1-1, kicked off at end) and the Arsenal fan I was with admitted the North London affair wasn't even close.

Now, some of the South London derbies - Millwall vs West Spam, pretty much anyone vs Palarse...hmmm

Oh - and Swindle vs Oxford is pretty fierce

But none of these compare to some of the Turkish, Italian or South American games

Think i would have to go with the Glasgow derby, a whole new level of hatred.......fuelled by religion suprise suprise.

Fuelled by a hatred of difference.

Put the average Rangers or Celtic fan on Mastermind with their specialist subject "My own religion" and they'd know **** all.

Absolutely, same could be said for any conflict based around religion. " My make believe God is better than your make believe God "

That makes it sound even more inviting. Nothing better as a neutral to watch other people get all wound up about something!

Southampton and Portsmouth is pretty tasty.

To many people's surprise so are Mansfield v Chesterfield and Southend v Colchester.

Last time Chester played Wrexham in the Football league, the Police moved the kick off to mid day and increased their presence at the ground.

Looking further afield; the Belfast rivals Glentorran v Linfield. It's usually shown on Sky and you see fans at one end waving Irish tricolours and Ulster Volunteer Force banners at the other.

Colchester v Wycombe is becoming tasty too!

Glentoran and Linfield are both proddy loyalist clubs, it's purely a geographical rivalry, you won't see a tricolour flag at that game...

The Bristol derby is certainly as fierce as pretty much any other in the uk. It obviously isn't as high profile as many of the "big team" games though.

If you are talking purely about the nature of the fixture, then it is up there with the fiercest.

Even the Gloster cup games were tasty when I was younger,in fact at times it was absolute mayhem.

Celtic v rangers, got to be. Unfortunately when you put religion into the mix you get pure hatred. Remember when rangers signed Jon Daly the Irish (catholic) striker 2 years ago. They booed him and made his life hell. Its on my bucket list to do before I die, Glasgow derby.

City v rovers games are bad but probably seem worse than they are because we don't seem to play them very often.
