Any idea how the seeding works? based on league position last year? 10 teams from this round will be seeded along with the 13 prem teams, Newcastle & Norwich.

Does that mean it's impossible that we'll draw Gillingham.

Bummer

I'm with the others who are pleased LJ isn't happy.

How many times over previous seasons at this level have we gone out, got done by a league two team (who often have played well), and our manager has brushed it off as nothing to be concerned about?

Delighted we're in to the nose-bleed inducing territory of round two, but also that our head coach thinks we can do better.

Think the concept of a 'nailed on' first eleven is maybe not something we will get this year, and that might be a good thing; clearly competition for places, be it through positive or negative pressure.

Just thank the stars for Tammy Abraham; sounds like we've got a real talent on our hands, and hard not to see him starting at Burton when he's already got a brace with only having around 90 mins of football for us under his belt.

Roll on Burton; a few days of getting the boys in to gear, perhaps the boost of a decent second round tie to motivate the squad, and hopefully a full 90 min performance.

I agree games like this are for squad members to stake a claim and it would seem that not for the first time in our recent history, that has failed to happen it must be frustrating to a manager.

Hopefully the team can learn a lot from the last two matches; it was telling when Frankie Fielding said when co-commentating on the Wigan match that we play our best football quickly and one- and two-touch.  I imagine getting that sort of intensity is hard, but I just hope we can find a formula for it, as the second period against Wigan has proved ol' Frank was on to something.

From tonights results and more fixtures tomorrow, it looks like we will not be seeded.

Teams will learn the identity of their opponents immediately after the conclusion of the match between League Two Luton Town and Championship side Aston Villa at approximately 10.00pm.

EFL teams that progress from Round One will be joined by Premier League sides not competing in Europe this season.

The 13 top flight teams – including Liverpool, Chelsea and Everton – will be seeded, along with the Championship’s Newcastle United and Norwich City plus 10 winners from the opening round of fixtures.

In the event that Liverpool are drawn at home in Round Two then they will be given special dispensation by the EFL Board to play the fixture at the opposing club due to the ongoing redevelopment work at Anfield Stadium.

If the draw dictates this is required then the EFL Board will determine a level of compensation to be paid by Liverpool to the opposing club.

An EFL spokesman said: “The Board of the EFL carefully considered a request from Liverpool and felt that in these particular circumstances it was wholly appropriate to agree to a fixture reversal.”

So as Cardiff play the Gas after the draw, I guess they will not be seeded :dunno:
