funky monkey
I love threads like this....great to read for a giggle. Plus it reminds me of that neighbour you get when your young who threatens to pop your ball the next time it goes in this garden.
East Yorkshire CideRed
Having managed social media accounts for retail brands, I, more than most, understand how difficult it is develop a brand personality, whilst trying to appeal to your whole target audience. Whilst I felt the tweet in question was a little out of the ordinary, it obviously appealed to, and was easily understood by, a certain section of our audience, and was picked up by other popular Twitter accounts and followers of other teams, which can only be a good thing. Twitter should be a fun and engaging platform, not bland and dutifully informative all of the time. I agree the City account should take a professional line, but it should, when appropriate, use language that evokes the passion, enjoyment (and often downright despair) of being a City fan. I've got more of an issue with Adam Baker putting his name to this sentence: "Youngsters will be able to City’s home clash with Derby County on Saturday (3pm) for just £1." I just think when it descends into being labelled unprofessional, when that's clearly an overreaction, it's a bit silly. Unprofessional would be "this kid is shit", surely? Just said goal scored by Joe Bryan. I asked bcfctweets why no graphic of our Joe and I had a response from Lewis Hancock. He has been on the media team with Baker and Perrow for some time. Having looked at his twitter profile he only looks like a young un himself. Wouldn't surprise me if he posted it... Seems down with the kids man. Safe yeah!! @ColeCiderRed Lewis no longer works for Bristol Sport, which is why I have a feeling the tone of the tweets have changed since last week 12 hours ago, ChubStixx said: "This kid is a joke". If trying to be cool every once in a while on twitter is part of the plan for appealing to a younger generation and getting more young fans interested, I don't really think it's a big deal. 99% of the tweets on our account are professional and serious, don't see the issue with an occasional bit of light relief. Someone should warn middle aged football clubs of the dangers of "trying to be cool"....... And if bitches really are trippin that could explain why the top of the new stand can't get safety clearance. It's a disgrace. Sort it out, SL. It's unprofessional. Nogbad the Bad
13 hours ago, Selred said: Not everyone sees every tweet. Furthermore our win against Villa only garnered 256 retweets and that was our highest in weeks, so yes actually over 1,000 retweets do show something. I work in media and engagements is a key performance indicator. Why would it not be retweeted favourably? The only people finding fault with the tweet are our own fans from what I've seen on Twitter. Why dislike it? It's a compliment to our player, you took it the wrong way so move on and accept how it should of been taken. Seriously your reaction is very narrow minded and over the top. 12 hours ago, Robin1988 said: Oh my God. This thread was bad enough without microanalysing every aspect of the tweet. Who cares who it was RTed by? People liked it evidently. Seriously. If it's not your kind of thing, fine. But stop being such a bunch of boring sanctimonious (ironic I know but I'm telling you to chill out so shush) whingebags. Seriously, (is that a trendy Twiitter buzzword which actually means something entirely different?) you two have your opinion and me and others disagree with you. My opinion won't change that it was out of place nonsense, especially with the revelation later in the thread that the largest number of twitter users are actually in the 30-64 age group, so the majority are not kids and young adults as asserted earlier, who for some reason would apparently need to be pandered to with occasional use of an immature and, to the majority, mystifying choice of language. There is a possibility of not liking something, but appreciating others do and in the year of our lord 2016 that more informal PR is the way of the world. Could you really not guess what it meant? We went 2-0 up, he scored both. Hopefully that's enough clues. Remember when Ashton Vale was on the agenda and we were all moaning about people being stuck in their ways? There's a difference between having an account and using Twitter. My boss at work has an account. He's never tweeted. And I can quite confidently say he's unlikely to have signed in since signing up. Stats on active Twitter users would be more relevant: a very quick Google finds pages suggesting "Twitter has over 15 million active users in the UK and over 65% of these users are under the age of 34." Bar BS3
As someone who doesn't "do" Twitter. I don't understand it, don't like it and just generally don't get the point! I came across reports of the tweet on here and certainly didn't think there was anything wrong with it. I did however think that it didn't really sound right and wasn't in keeping with an official club Twitter account. It hardly lives upto John Motson's "he's not just from another country, he looks like he's from a different planet"

As we both seem to work a lot with Twitter in our professional lives we could have this discussion all day, this probably isn't the right platform. We undoubtedly rely on different sources of usage stats and we probably have different target audiences for the accounts on which we work. The global accounts I oversee certainly don't seek to engage with younger audiences. Anyway, I appreciate your views but I'm sure we don't want this to hijack the main theme of this thread - whether our club is professional enough when engaging online. It's a minority. Even then we don't know if they were re tweeting favourably, or taking the piss out of BCFC, and it seems a large number were Chelsea fans anyway. To know if it was really popular there would have to be a 'dislike' button for comparison for those dumbfounded to show their disapproval. I'd have pressed it, and who knows how many others would have pressed it too? And how would you know who had disliked it due to specific unhappiness at the wording, and how many had un-liked it due to not liking the player, the club (rival fans) or the scoreline? Talk about a fuss about nothing.
