I bloody love this place.

It never ceases to amaze me how many wonderful decent people there are out there who are genuinely willing to help someone that they`ve never met.

Indeed. @Tipps69 you made me cry, not out of sympathy but I'm so proud of you being able to come on here and tell complete strangers really difficult things which are hurting you so badly. Some of the replies have made me well up again, please take hold of the hands being offered @Tipps69, or keep them in mind until you are ready. I'm very honoured to be part of the Otib family sometimes

Tipps I can't imagine what you are going through as I have not had the acute physical pain as well but at least from the 'mind' stuff - I would echo all the sentiments about talking, and often to a stranger is easiest and a qualified one in terms of a therapist as they will listen without judgement, and that is as liberating as the advise they will then impart.

Look I am I long way from being able to talk from a position of recovery but please don't continue to isolate yourself, reach out and look for the good in each day - whether that is being able to positively impact somebody else's day or let somebody else impact yours. By that I mean just the very small but actually most important stuff - even just sharing a smile, brief conversation or situational joke with someone who serves you in a shop for example. It does wonders for the soul. There is always tomorrow to start again, and if that doesn't work out then the next day. Don't look too far ahead or give up on getting it right. Look at the help and support coming just from this forum to spur you on, you already have a date I mean new plutonic friend to go to a game with! (See 'She-Ra', you ARE a superhero;))

You must know me outside of OTIB to know I love She-Ra. Hands up, who are you... ffs. Another person on here who knows all my dirty secrets!!!  :laughcont:

@Tipps69, if you don't take up @Septic Peg's offer of actually going to a game, as a distant 2nd best pop into the forum chatroom on a match-day sometime. You'll find a load of us in there doing nothing but talking rubbish and whining about another defeat.

This is true. We do chat utter shit in chatbox. Remember the time we talked about bubonic plague and it's transmission in medieval times? (No joke, we did... think it was Preston away...)

Well last season had its moments that we sometimes needed to chat about "other" things on a match day! :fear:

Ha! I was thinking of a smart and funny ruse to deepen the mystery of who I may be, but alas all any OTIBer would need to do to discover this particular little dirty secret is to search your posting history - if they don't remember a particular post that is.  The thread in question turned to superheroes - I very much doubt it started that way, in fact now I think about it was probably around Holloway and the game against QPR, somebody then brought up the ad running on TV with Skeletor in it and away the thread went - including you coming out of the closet with regards to She-Ra!  Seems my memory isn't quite as shot as I thought it was!

It's always good to share and talk Peg as brilliantly demonstrated by this particular thread, so any time feel free to share any other dirty secrets that you'd like to get off your chest - we won't tell, and more importantly won't judge!!!

Holloway wants to keep him.

It's not up to him; the people who actually decide these things want him gone:

I know. Made the point to show that not everyone wants shot of him

Fair enough.

Though if I was Holloway I would say that whether I wanted to keep him or not because it's not his decision.

If he said he wanted him gone and the owners decided to keep him it would make for a difficult working relationship.

So he could just be keeping his options open.

He has been a total liability at QPR and they can't wait to be shot of him.

May as well sign Gazza or Billy Kenny.

There was a point that Tony Adams was in that category though and he turned it around. I think, when Caulker is ready to get help(and the interview suggests he might be), the right club with the right support could really turn it around for him. That said, I don't think it will be us. I'd love to have him back but I imagine he wouldn't want to go back to where it all began...

I would just like to thank all of you who have left comments or PM'd me with words of encouragement & understanding, I didn't share my feelings for a response or for any sort of gain, just purely having read Steven Caulker's piece it just came out.

All of your responses have struck a nerve & you will never truly know how appreciative I am, thank you.

There's been stories of his alcoholism quietly doing the rounds for 6 months now so not surprised to see this article at all.  Very sad for anyone to be suffering with what Caulker has and hope he can get the help he needs to kick it.

When any player goes on loan, both the parent club and loanee club must work closely together and I'd say both clubs have probably contributed in a small way to this.  Although I would also point out that if we had put him 3 miles away from nightclubs and casinos there is every chance he would have found them anyway.

I heard that at Cardiff it was alcohol and substance misuse, truly sad if true.

Mental Health is something that is now very close to my heart.  I was diagnosed with having a mental health condition 3 weeks ago which I am now taking the relevant medication for.  Unfortunately its somethings that people still have a stigma over which has been shown by the MOD's on here. I got banned for something I said, which now on reflection was completely due to my mental state and they don't even want to know about it.  I'll get banned again now, but work still needs to be done.

It effected my life without me really knowing, but its now completely under control.  Something as simple as losing my mother set it off. Certainly opened my mind to mental health issues anyway.

I'll await my account to be banned.

In defense of the mods, its hard to judge someones mental state from a forum post

Tipps69 , the lovely words from Bristol City supporters is to be expected , as a Northerner :) I have always found City fans at the game to be what I see posted when I pop on OTIB and this isnt the norm , also have a couple of good friends from Bristol and they are both decent chaps ( must be something in the air ) , keep strong and I hope you rekindle your friendships , take up the offers to go on the game and get the advice and help required , if you happen to go on versus Preston I will bore you about our underachievement for 45 years :) , Take Care

narhhh... reckon the overwhelming majority of people everywhere are decent Mortis. Its a dna thing that kicks in when others are in need. Only the bad sorts seem to be written about more because its readable, sadly.. we are wired for bad news because we are all essentially good.

I guess depending on what way you look at it, I think my money earning days for walking the streets maybe sadly long gone. :sad26:

And similarly, at 45 & recovering from a broken back etc, sadly (no matter how many times I dreamed it as a kid), I don't think City will ever be so desperate as to need me to come on against Preston (or anyone for that matter).  :sad26:

Sorry Mortis, I couldn't help picking up on these two typos as they actually made me smile & that hasn't happened very often for the last two years plus.

Thank you for your kind words, it really is appreciated.

Gambling is easy nowadays, you don't have to live on a casino's doorstep or be in a bookies 24/7, it's there in your home, on your phone or tablet or pc & there are so many ways to gamble, from the sports betting on just about any sport you can imagine to the casino games & slot machines!! Hell, you can even play bingo from the comfort of your own home!!

You no longer have to physically hand your money over, put your card details in to any hundreds of online companies & just press a number & you've transferred money into your account!! Press another number & you've magically bet all those numbers on a spin of a roulette wheel or on the turn of a card but you lose BUT you don't feel like you've lost because you never physically handed your money over, it was only numbers typed into a phone!! That's until you build the courage up to look on your banking facility on that very same phone, tablet or pc that you've just typed some numbers into to discover that those numbers were actually ££££'s.

I like a flutter, I can do it from my own home & I don't have to go out & actually see people which is great because for over 2 years now I've been suffering from depression!! I have been left feeling let down by mates who I had made friendships with for over 40 years in some cases & all because I broke my back in an accident & my world then started unraveling, from my fiancée who wanted nothing to do with me only 2 months later to then losing my job because I was unable to physically work!!

These mates were the same people who I've been best man at ones wedding, two who are my daughters god-father, lots who I'd played football, cricket & pool with for over 20 years & gone through school with & a fair few with who I have travelled the country watching City with from about the age of 14!!

But I have none of them or that anymore, I have no social media & a mobile phone that consists of 4 telephone numbers!! Everyone else has been deleted because that's how much they've made me feel!! ALONE!!

I can no longer visit the one thing that has been there throughout my life (BRISTOL CITY FOOTBALL CLUB) because I can't physically do a match day anymore!! I'm 45 in a little over 2 weeks & as sad as it may sound, this is the only thing that I can rely on!!

I've had some dark days!! Very dark days & I'm lead to believe that I'll never be the person I once was & in a way I don't ever want to be the person I once was because that former me gave a shit about my friends & mates but it has been proved that my friendship was misplaced & it's left me feeling like I'm unable to trust anyone again because if one of my friends or mates had gone through what I have, I know for a fact that I wouldn't of allowed them to go through it on their own!!

And while I sit here crying while I write this out on the same phone that enables me to have a little gamble, I realise this is the single hardest thing I've had to say for a long time!!

And please, I don't want people's sympathy or sorrow or anything but having read Caulker's piece, it hit a nerve with me!! While writing this I've deleted it, rewritten it, deleted a piece of it & rewritten bits of it!!

I didn't choose to have this happen & I've blamed myself more times than I can remember & I've hated myself even more times!! I am better than what I was but what I realised is that the recovery from this is going to take a lot longer than how long it took for me to get to my lowest but I'll do it without the aid of any 'mates' because I don't believe I'll be ever able to trust anyone enough again to really be able to call anyone my friends or 'mates' again!!

Tipps,  it must have taken some guts to post this and tell all of OTIB what your going through, but I sincerely hope it helps you to share your problems with others, even though we are all faceless forum members.

If it's any help and consolation, I strongly suspect that there are many other posters who, at one time or another, have been through some sort of  problem in their lives. I know that I have, although nothing like you are going through, and it wasn't until I talked to others about it that I was able to turn things around, in particular how I felt about myself. Thinking I could sort my problem out on my own was my biggest mistake.

It's great to see many posters offering their help, and I hope you can take up the offers of attending games, as this might be just what you need to start changing things for the better.  Mind you, if we play like we did between November and February, it might make you feel worse! :)

Look after yourself.

Personally I still think @Tipps69 should have come on at Preston. Really struggle to see how he'd have done any worse than our players on the pitch!

Take care Tipps and hope it works out well for you. Good for Caulker that he is on the right track again. Remember when he was in City, hardly one miss. One of the best defenders Ive seen live. Even if you are a good footballer or a doctor or whatever gambling, alcohol and drugs can take you anyway.

Hi Tipps, most of my close knit circle of friends were made through recovery (I won't go into the details).  They have all been through really dark times, they are all the better for it.

I was wisely told at the time that what I was going through would certainly determine who my real friends were - it turns out I didn't have any.  I'd put my friends now as my greatest blessing.

Hold on dude, things will get better when you learn to trust again.  Healing occurs through relationships.

No pressure, though.
