Did we just imagine the massive bids for Gayle and Gray then?

No, but everyone knew they wouldn't have come to us because of the wages that SL pays.  I'm not saying he should go back to the GJ days, but if he wants quality players to come to AG then he has to think about paying more.

Bidding for players is one thing but then they told us what they wanted in terms of wages and guess what?!!!

So Cotterill was targeting the wrong players who were not realistic for our wage structure. Doesn’t mean he wasn’t backed. LJ has to work with the same limitations.

But without the successful half season or cup run.

Slight difference there....

An extraordinarily successful full season and half season before that though.

We will never know if Cotterill would have turned it around had he been supported in the January transfer window.

And when did a manager ever keep his job due to a good cup run.

But the fact remains over the last half season, not just a few games, Johnson's record is relegation form.

The fact is your facts are wrong.

Our form over the last half season is actually:

26 points and 16th in the table in the form table since the half way stage:

That's 5 teams between us and relegation form FYI

We won't ever know but he showed zero indications that he would - or indeed that he'd even change a formation that was out-thought and out-fought by virtually every team we met.

I won't ever slag the guy because of the wonderful L1 season he gave us, but neither will I get misty eyed about him and think he might ever have guided us to Championship success.

Like the SOD loyalists,  the Cotts-is-God folk just need to let it all go...

I make it 24 points from the last 23 games.

Relegation form.

26 x 2 is 52. Blackburn were relegated with that last season.

And even that is generous as our form from game 25 onwards is disgusting.

SOD was stitched right up & the arrival of Cotteril & the loosing of the purse strings showed that

Abysmal is what it is

Well that is an opinion, not a fact.

It's not been good enough, no where near. It's an 'opportunity' lost for sure.

Am I defending that 16th placed form? Hell no.

BUT - I'm tired of seeing time and again people peddling fake news, especially this lazy relegation form stat, as fact.

Argue your point with the right facts at least.

Rubbish performance. Only really looked good once Diedhiou came off and Korey moved into midfield. But then we had no height in the box to get on end of high balls.

And Flint up front for the 10 minutes made me as nervous as hell when he had to stay up and not help the defence. How we didnt conceed i dont know

Yet some will defend the absolute shower we've endured since Christmas regardless!

Meaningless stat. If we're going to compare table places now with previous seasons perhaps we can say if we were in League One we'd be 8th and still in with a play-off shot...

Who cares about last season - this season, with the teams we play and which we are compared to.

This season there are 8 teams with less points over the 2nd half of the season.

= Not relegation form.

He inherited a threadbare squad full of loans, which came close to relegation, and he is working in a transfer market vastly more expensive than ever before. No one was paying £10 million for strikers last time we were in the Championship.

If he has spent more money it’s because he was starting from a low base and absolutely had to just to get the squad up to size, let alone make us competitive.

Of course this is all rather inconvenient for those would just prefer to say “he’s been backed like no manager ever before!”

The purse strings didn't loosen when cottscame in, he just bought the right type of player and didn't waste wages on journeymen like SOD

The SOD war is over. Let it go.

In my view he was the most boring crap boss I've ever seen at AG and I include Pulis in that list.
