And if you exclude the two old-fogey keepers (?), our oldest outfield player is Pisano at 31 (nearing 32).  We then have a few 28s.  I think LJ handles a younger squad better, as there is a willingness to learn / improve.  There is no need to change the squad through age.  Most clubs will have players who’ve seen better days who they will be trying to move on.

This is his squad.  Even Smith signed by Cotts was with LJ at Oldham.  Pack, signed by SOD, has had the style built around him.  It’s only Frankie (SOD signing), who you might argue LJ has tried to replace a few times, that isn’t an LJ player.

Perhaps he would’ve been better to not make his 3 windows comment (lessons learned), but in fairness had he said 3 years (anniversary yesterday), he might’ve been laughed out of town!

If, when LJ took over, (relegation zone, or as good as) he had said that on his 3rd anniversary we’d be sat in the championship play places and have disposed of 5 premier league teams in cup completions, including Man Utd, and only lost by 2 injury time goals, over 2 legs, to one of the best teams in the world, in a major cup semi final, I think everybody would have been very happy indeed, whilst seriously doubting if that was realistic.

Well, here we are, the week of his 3rd anniversary and that’s where we are.

It’s impressive to all but a few with an agenda.

The missing bit for me was that he talked about his footballing principles but rarely stick to them.  I think he has realised that these needed reshaping for life in the Championship.  To some extent injuries / limited squad options last season might’ve been an early incarnation of the 4141/4411/4231 (whichever way you lay your magnetic markers on the board) we are seeing this season.  It will need fine-tuning, it will need to evolve but not not revolution.  He finally has a playing identity.  That is the big thing for me.  Everything can stem from that, recruitment importantly too.

Valid points. I admired his outlook last season, as did most of the nation, but (in hindsight) its not possible to sustain that level of high pressing performance and, arguably, over performance of key players, throughout an entire season.

This season, after the 4 defeats, we noticeably decided to tighten up. Results began to be ground out, and on the back of that, we have grown more confident and able to improve our performances gradually. Certainly made easier whilst on such a great run of results..!

We look more of a “team” this season, in many ways. Not relying on 1 or 2 star performers.

We started making sure that everyone was producing 7/10 performances. Now that a few are hitting the 8/10 - 9/10 levels, we are looking sold AND a threat.

IF it’s sustainable, and I believe it could be, this could turn into the best season in many of our lifetimes, at this level ?

Coupled with the transition to defence when we lose the ball.  That is just as important....and that is where stifling / constraining Marlon Pack going one way (forwards) helps when we lose the ball, as he is in position to stop us being exposed centrally.  I didn’t like the effect of Pack playing in “the cage” (LJ’s words), as initially it meant we lost efficiency in our attacks...but as the other have adjusted to not having him there as a forward pivot, it’s become really effective.  Believe it or not, I think this is where Pato has benefitted (especially away) because he is now the pivot for attacks, e.g. Stoke - it was him getting the ball centrally and spraying wide to Hunt.  This allows Pack to sit in and us not get exposed.

Ignoring the red (misplaced passes), I think Forest away shows how the two are complimenting each other.  Not that I wouldn’t like to see Kasey Palmer in that role though!

Lock up your (80 y.o.) daughters.

Had a great night in Torquay once...

There was an older, but attractive woman at the bar. I thought I’d have a crack, so approached her and bought her a drink.

You could see how beautiful she would have been in her younger days, as she still looked half about now, in her mid 50’s.

You can imagine my delight when, after a few drinks, she asked me if I’d ever fantasised about having a mother/daughter threesome..!

I said I’d love too! She winked, took my hand and led me to a taxi ?

I was so excited and turned on by the thought, until we got back to her house, she opened the door and called out “Mum, I’ve got one who’s up for it..!”

Still, I was there by then, so...! ?

Welcome

Just a small comment, this season has not been a roller coaster. Lost 3 top favourite players pre season , a brand new back 5 in August and a consistent team selection policy all season.

Results and entertainment get better and better month on month and this is possibly the best season at this level to be a home And away fan since the mid 70s. What's not to like?

Nothing, apart from people on the forum moaning during this great season (so far)

Again, welcome.

11 points out of 36 available in September, October and November is not a big dip in firm and points gathering?

Yes, things have turned around but don't be deluded that the current splendid run will continue. Don't get me wrong, as I like every other City fan, want the good times to continue.

I  saw many a scrap in the 80s between the behind the east end bowlers, and the greville smyth park bowlers.

The bowling alley under the dolman also.

3 bowling greens in a few hundred yards.

Have you ever known 3 bowling pitches such close in proximity on your travels rob?

I saw a few in southport i recall.

Now that you mention it, I do t think I have.

Four clubs in Weston but all quite a distance apart.

Ashcombe has two greens, Clarence has three. St Andrews and Victoria only one.
