Bristol R*vers dustbin thread

It's the gas, we all know they will come up smelling of roses and somehow it'll end up being our fault.

I can't see administration happening, I feel that this appeal has some legs, even if it's just based on getting more time as even if they do overturn the judgement then sainsbury will end up counter appealing, granting the pikeys even more time to sort themselves out.

As mentioned above is say they definitely have a plan B.

If they are looking for a buyer then being in a media spun "high profile" courtroom gun fight could bring wanted publicity from a said party.

Administration sounds far away, more a case of wishful thinking on our behalf.

(I'm writing this as I'm always wrong, hopefully things won't change)

YorkshireSection, the only comment I would make re your post is as BCL mentioned above if Rovers do launch an appeal as they say they will it is possible that Sainsbury's may launch their own counter claim in respect of the judgment. I suppose the point being Rovers do not necessarily have to be the only party with an appeal if it goes to appeal.

It may seem odd to think of appealing a decision on which you were successful, but you might. The reason: whilst we won on these grounds we think we should have won also on grounds x, y and z. Otherwise you might have all your eggs in one basket.

Eddie Hitler - re Cobbetts perhaps an exceptional example. To add some context to your post Cobbetts went through M&A activity in the years before the recession and had taken on several new offices. It doesn't matter what sector or industry you work in, that could have been a recipe for disaster.

Re Burges Salmon your being far too simplistic. 'We get paid anyway' is way off the mark. What they have 'on the line' is:

- goodwill built up;

- damages - yes, you can sue lawyers and there are lawyers who specialise in suing lawyers;

- enduring relationship with a client who will have other significant concerns - contract law, employment law, commercial issues (sponsorship); Heath and safety, licensing... I could go on.

- winning the trust of executives who may have other business interests. Perhaps someone in the dairy indiustry which has complex EU quotas and regulations, land law, sale of goods, services. Perhaps someone in financial services. Perhaps someone in the construction industry.

To save time rather than suggesting you check, within Bristol City's accounts you'll find Burges Salmon as solicitor. If you look at Hargreaves Lansdown's webpage you will find Burges Salmon as solicitor. Im not recommending Burges Salmon (and if you're wondering no I don't and never have worked there), but they do have a strong reputation. If you wanted to check for yourself there's plenty of online resources rating and ranking lawyers - chambers and partners for one.

If you say so...

There isn't a shortage of investors lining up to purchase English football clubs last time I checked.

Clearly I'm not saying they're some outstanding investment opportunity but sellable, absolutely.

Orem English clubs yes but not league two clubs deep in debt look at the struggles Portsmouth and Leeds had trying to find suitable owners before the white knight rode in

In the case of Rovers, it would probably be a black knight. If the value of the ground is worth more than the debts, it could be worth buying by an asset stripper. Start off by selling the ground and let Rovers rent it, then gradually increase the rent until they can't afford to pay, so that they move out - i e what happened when they were at Eastville. However, if they win the court case and get reasonable compensation, then the outlook is better.

And having visited Burges Salmon's offices at Temple Quay several times, it is a lovely building inside and the canteen is spot on!
