Burnley away match thread

Recommended Posts

It will be a difficult game, but we got the quality, we can put a nice effort for sure.

All I care about is to take less risks in defence and put a nice game like usual high up the pitch.

Is another game that wil show if we are capable of top 6 or not. Games like this and Norwich can make the difference. Of course Burnley is favorite to win but this league it is very competitive and we got our chances.

Still can’t believe we’ve been awarded Norwich and Burnley away in consecutive games days apart.

Both long journeys to last year Premier League teams. I know we’ve got to go to these places at some point but it’s a big ask for players and fans.

It felt so good to finally buy an away match ticket, Brum, this week. Some of the games so far have been further than I go on holiday.

Anyway, a point at the draw experts would mean we’ve come away from both games with even more confidence than we had going in. COYR

Good day fellow-Reds. While it’s always great to be a City fan there are times when that is especially true and I certainly feel that way at the moment. Our performances this season have been a joy to watch. Even in the games we have lost we were in the mix for at least a point.

For the first time in five years a trip to Turf Moor for City fans beckons. Here’s a couple of guides to the ground:

There is no pay on the day available.

Burnley have played their home games at Turf Moor since 1883, after playing at its original ground at Calder Vale for less than a year.

Here’s a flashback to 12/13 which involves late goals and even penalties!

On the final day of last season they lost 2-1 at home to Newcastle, while Leeds beat Brentford 2-1 away, which condemned Burnley to the drop, they finished with 35 points. https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/football/teams/burnley and https://www.bbc.co.uk/sport/av/football/61538173

Burnley used to have the record for the longest unbeaten run in  league history in 1921, having gone 30 matches without a defeat until the record was broken by Arsenal in the 2004/05 season.

Burnley’s mascot is a bee named Bertie.

Their claret and the blue kit was inspired by the great Aston Villa team of 1910.

Turf Moor was the first professional soccer ground to be visited by a member of the Royal Family when Prince Albert visited in 1886.

In January 2021 American firm ALK Capital acquired a controlling share of the club. Recent media reports suggest they have some questions to answer, https://m.allfootballapp.com/news/EPL/Burnley-face-EFL-investigation-over-claims-that-clubs-American-ownership-are-not-actually-in-charge/2903520

Earlier this year Vincent Kompany replaced Sean Dyche, who had been at the helm since 2012, this clip discusses how is changing things:

Kompany began his professional career at Anderlecht; having graduated from their youth system, he was with the club for three seasons as a first team player before moving to Bundesliga club Hamburg in 2006. In the summer of 2008, he completed a transfer to Manchester City, where he established himself as an integral part of the squad and was regarded as one of the bargain buys of the revolutionised City era, blossoming into one of the league's best centre-backs. In the 2011–12 season he was awarded the captaincy of City, leading his club to win the Premier League that season, their first league title in 44 years. Kompany was included in the Premier League Team of the Year for two years in a row in 2011 and 2012 as well as being included in the 2014 team, and won the Premier League Player of the Season in 2012, and is regarded as one of the best defenders in English football history.

Kompany earned 89 caps for Belgium in a fifteen-year international career, having made his debut in 2004 at the age of 17. He was part of their squad that came fourth at the 2008 Olympics as well as going to the FIFA World Cup in 2014 and 2018, coming a best-ever third at the latter. He was captain from 2010.

In 2019, when his contract expired after 11 years at City, Kompany returned to Anderlecht as player-manager. A year later, he announced his retirement from professional football and became the first-team manager.

In January 2020 we sold them midfielder Josh Brownhill who joined on a four-and-a-half-year contract for around £9m. Although City boss Lee Johnson was reluctant to lose his then 24-year-old captain, who he brought to Ashton Gate in 2016 after working with him at Barnsley. Johnson told BBC Radio Bristol: "I felt like I was selling my son, if I'm honest. "I'm very, very proud of Josh, signing him for the fee that we did, developing him in every element of his life - let alone his football game - and seeing him then flourish in to one of the best, if not the best, attacking midfelders or number eights in the Championship.”

In a separate transfer deal Nahki Wells moved in the other direction joining us on a three-and-a-half year contract, with City paying in the region of £5m.

The game will be refereed by Oliver Langford whose last Burnley game was the League Cup penalty shoot-out win at Newcastle last season. Fourth official will be Bobby Madden.

In the week they drew 1-1 at Deepdale. They have now drawn five times this term, with only goal-shy Preston and West Bromwich Albion drawing more at this stage (six.)  We remain the only team in the Championship to have scored in every game. Both them and us are on 14 points. They can be relatively satisfied with their position at present, but Vincent Kompany will be rueing several missed opportunities already this season, having dropped points in six of their opening nine matches.

They have won each of their previous three home meetings against us, scoring nine goals in the process. We have lost each of our last five .

With the International break coming up next let’s cheer the boys onto a victory and go into the break with 17 points from 10 games. A special thank you to all traveling fans, IMO our away support this season has yet again been superb. COYR!

I hope I’m very wrong but I can see us losing by a few today. Normally an optimist but Burnley have really impressed me this season to the point where they have been good but clearly have a high ceiling to get a lot better.  We had the majority of possession against Norwich but I’d be surprised if that happened today.  Hopefully this is being quoted back to me by loads of you at 4:50.  Heart says 2-2 though!

Can’t make it today, but went several seasons back (James’s last game in goal). Some of our friends are Burnley season ticket holders and we had a great time, post match, in the supporters club across the road.

May have been mentioned already but Burnley have a fan called Dave Burnley, who changed his name by deed poll back in the 70s. He named his daughter Clarette Ann Blue.

They dominate possession to the extreme, we have to be ready to break when the opportunity comes.

They play from the goalie into midfield a lot into Cullen or Cork's feet and can break lines from there and then overload the sides with wingers and fullbacks bombing on.

Feeling more confident about this one than I did pre-Norwich, think we can get at these more. COYR.

God, I’d be bored shitless watching Swansea every week.  Pass, pass, pass, lose tempo, pass, pass, lose ball.  Repeat.

Look at that Alex Scott video of Wednesday doing the rounds on Twitter. That’s how you pass the ball. Pretty patterns are useless and, as you say, boring after a while without end product.

I can see a change if we lose this one as well. They played well v Norwich so chance for same team to get the result this time, but 2 losses on the bounce has to mean a shake up for me, otherwise the rest of the squad will be wondering if what it will take for them ever to play

I think they'll be looking at the performances rather than just the result.

Or what it takes for Naismith to lose his place after gifting so many goals.

I watched the Burnley Blackpool game which ended 3-3. Burnley well on top in the early stages (hell of a Brownhill goal) but Blackpool got back into the game and Burnley's defence looked shaky. Burnley very good going forward.

I don't know if they have strengthened their defence since then but I am anticipating that our attack will cause them serious problems. If we cut out the major defensive errors, we will do well this afternoon.

Optimistic! ?
