Why aren’t we giving Ecuador any credit, got some bloody good players…and are showing the “gulf” in class. Ecuador aren’t mugs, no doubt about it, but will fall short against the first quality side they meet imo. However they are leagues above the opposition they are playing….who must rank as one of the weakest sides I’ve ever seen at a World Cup. Waste of a place tbh.

Bolivia and Venezuela have European based players too. There aren't really any 'whipping boys' in the South American zone. Venezuela seem traditionally to be the weakest South American team. No obvious reason why though. Eight times the population of Uruguay. Edited November 20, 2022 by The Gasbuster

Weakest yeah but not necessarily an easy away game- compare to San Marino, Andorra, Gibraltar etc. I'd fancy a number of the weaker South American sides v Latvia, Lithuania and so on too. Bolivia and Ecuador were skewed a bit by altitude.

With the exception of Brazil, Argentina and possibly Uruguay the others seem to have times in the sun and then turn to crap for a while. Chile are the prime example and it normally comes down to whether they have three or four world class players at any given time or don`t.

Agreed on your post but it's definitely a challenging zone even at times for the big 2, less so than it used to be- Chile aren't a walkover in the main even if in a lesser generation of players. FIFA and UEFA don’t care if Qatar lose by 10, but fans of football should question why they hate the World Cup venue, but dote over the champions league!. ExiledAjax
Ecuador's next game is the Dutch on Friday. I'd fully expect them to ease off the press this half and make sure they get to full time fit and as fresh as they can be.
Harry
I’d confidently say, that if a Gloucestershire County team was able to train full time, over a number of years, by coaches from Barcelona, that they’d be a better team than these Qatari’s. 1
