Not specifically city related. But I'm watching Fa Cup on BBC and I'm bored.

Lineker must be coming up on retirement soon. 3 seasons time maybe? 5 tops?

Not since the final end of Big Des Lynam's reign will we see such a seismic change in football hosting/punditry.

So who next for you as lead presenter?

Jermaine Jenas looked like he was the favourite at one stage...

She will indeed, Is she your preferred choice? I think she's a pretty good choice, but then I'm not entirely certain who else is in the mix really.

Not my preferred choice but the BBC are determined to try and make Women's representation in football equal to men's. Not going to get into the politics of it tbh.

Fair play to Lineker still being able to work while taking in all those refugees

He’s far and away the best football  presenter, simply because he has been there and done it. And (admittedly in a field of cosy, bland, non-informative golf club types) he’s actually the best pundit too. He’s come along way and while I appreciate his ‘wider’ opinions aren’t to some tastes (though right up my street for the record), at least he actually has some and can express them intelligently.

As for who replaces him, Gabby Logan is the most competent but in terms of footballers? Hhhmmm.

Oh and a wild card who's still pretty new and currently only really on the podcasts and radio - Nedum Onuaha. Calm, funny, knowledgeable, played with and against some of the best, hates Joey Barton. A class act.

Colin Murray.

This is a great shout. And also, (I could be alone in this opinion) - he seems to have a soft spot for us? Granted we aren't in the prem, but when he was presenter of the football league highlights he always (to me) seemed to have a good word to say or spent slightly longer discussing us with their 'rent-a-pundit' than other teams.

Really like him on fighting talk on Radio 5Live as well. Top show.

Richards is fine as a pundit on Sky but I don't see him as Presenter material........certainly not yet anyway.

Alex Scott is the worst presenter I have seen fronting live football, she is only there because she is female and black. Fronting live sport requires a level of clarity and depth of understanding and she lacks it. In my view the perfect example of someone in a position due to her characteristics rather than talent.

Before people moan there are some outstanding female presenters out there, Balding is clearly brilliant as is Emma Patton, Emma Saunders and the Italian sky football reporter. They are far superior to Scott.

Easy to knock Lineker because of the politics and stuff, but he is pretty good at his job.

And anyhow, why is it such a crime to have left leaning views and air them?

I like the guy.

I was tempted to preface this thread by saying I wasn't wanting to bring his political views into it, but thought against it.

Just keen to chat about who his successor will be really.

Not keen for Micah Richards... yet.

Give it a few years and we could be in business.

Laura Woods was the best of the ITV world cup anchors. Put cliche factory Pougatch to shame in my opinion.

I’m not a massive fan but certainly a decent enough presenter, as is gabby Logan who I forgot. Both far superior to Scott.

Gabby Logan is a better "presenter" than all of them imo and that is the position that would be up for grabs.

Chappers has presented MOTD 2 so if it was a straightforward promotion you would expect him to be given the gig.

Pundits is a different ball game. To me Emma Hayes wins that one hands down. Presenting is not the same and Gabby Logan could do that job.

Trouble with Emmar 'ayes is that as a presenter we would have to listen to her voice. And that is an unpleasant thing to do.

A very patronising and annoying person.

Talks about football like no one else listening to her has a clue.

I find her very arrogant.

Gabby Logan is an excellent presenter on all sports covered by the BBC and she doesn’t pretend to be anything else. I find several of the female pundits (Emma Haynes excluded) voices irritating. They rarely contribute anything of interest.

Have to agree regarding Gabby Logan, i didn’t watch the World Cup so don’t know whether she’s improved or not but when Alex Scott started on soccer am she was pretty wooden

There’s just something about his style that really grates with me. But he is a pro.

He's a fine broadcaster though I have an irrational thing about him. Listen to him on 5 Live and he invariably calls Man Utd MANchester United with loud emphasis on the first syllable. Yet he can't seem to get Man City right, usually mangling it as Manchessity.

What's that you say, get a life? ?

He won't work Sundays for religious reasons, which rules him out from ever getting a regular gig presenting live stuff.

She still is very wooden and tries to compare the woman's game with the mens as if they’re of equal quality.

So you don’t think the 100+ international caps gives her a depth of understanding?

Regardless, the fact she actually does some research puts her above most pundits. Not a high bar you’d think, but too high for many.

Jesus wept I hope not. Has to be the most average pundit/presenter there is. She unfairly gets a lot of stick, she also gets far too much praise, mostly people over compensating because of the crap she gets. Truth is, she’s boring. Everything she says sounds rehearsed. Far too serious also. Need someone who can have a laugh with the other pundits otherwise you might as well watch sky sports highlights. Laura Woods literally outperforms her in every department, would much rather she get it if it “has” to be a woman because that’s the world we live in now.

100 international caps in women’s football, which is the equivalent of Bristol and Suburban div 4.

I think initially she felt she had to prove herself alongside the likes of Keane and Souness but the more she appeared I felt the more she showed that she has the football knowledge to be doing the pundit's job.

Well with repect, she does have to. We are talking about the men's game after all, and in the men's game, those are two pretty big names.

As much as she has achieved in the women's game, how could she possibly compete with those two when you're talking top flight mens football?

I want to hear from people who've been there, done it.

It doesn't BUT the rub is that if everyone is equal and gender is irrelevant then people have just as much right to express an opinion that Alex Scott is shit at punditry as they do Lee Hendrie for example.

I understand that but to be fair she would talk most of us under the table when it comes to how a game of football is progressing..........using your logic most of the other male pundits like Redknapp who talks cliches most of the time, despite both him and his old man having been there and done it, shouldn't appear with Souness and Keane!!!
