The game I will never forget against them was the 2008 play-off final….. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/2008_Football_League_Championship_play-off_final

A game which even inspired a birthday card (see photo)

They had a very busy deadline day, they signed Mali international Adama Traore on an initial two-year contract, plus Chelsea midfielder Xavier Simons and Fenerbahce midfielder Dimitris Pelkas on season-long loans, along with Harvey Vale also from Chelsea. In January they also signed highly-rated teenager Malcolm Ebiowei on loan from Crystal Palace until the end of the season. The 19-year-old joined Palace on a free transfer from Derby last summer after the Eagles saw off competition from Manchester United to sign him on a five-year deal. Brighton striker Aaron Connolly also joined them on loan after struggling at Italian side Venezia. The Republic of Ireland international joined the Serie B side at the start of the season, but only managed five appearances for the club.

On the last day of September they sacked head coach Shota Arveladze after a run of four successive defeats. The Georgian was appointed in January and guided the Tigers to safety and a 19th-place finish in the Championship. When they sacked him they were 20th in the table, with only three wins from 10 games, and chairman Acun Ilicali said their views "weren't aligned". The decision was announced just hours before the Tigers played Luton Town, with Andy Dawson named interim head coach.

In early November they announced Liam Rosenior as their new head coach. The 38-year-old signed a two-and-a-half-year deal at the MKM Stadium. The former full-back returned to East Yorkshire having made 161 appearances in black and amber during a five-year spell from 2010 to 2015, winning promotion from the Championship in 2012/13.

As it happens Nigel Pearson signed the former Bristol City academy product as a player on an initial short-term deal in October 2010 when he was manager of Hull. He became an important player under the City boss with Rosenior spending just under five years on Humberside. The duo also worked together while Pearson was working as a coach for the England Under-21s in 2007 but this match is the first time they have come up against each other as managers. Rosenior has impressed since his appointment in November, winning five and losing four of his 16 games in charge to steer them away from the bottom three and into 13th.

Rosenior was a key member of the Tigers team that secured their highest league finish of 16th in the Premier League and reached a first FA Cup final in 2013/14. The ex-Bristol City, Fulham and Reading defender took up his first coaching position at Brighton and Hove Albion in 2018 following his retirement from playing, working as assistant coach with their Under-23s. Joining Derby County’s coaching set-up in July 2019, initially as specialist first-team coach to Phillip Cocu, he was promoted to assistant manager under Wayne Rooney in January 2021.

We lost 2-1 away in a game that included a controversial penalty,

Head to head we have won 37, lost 29 and drawn 25. Last Saturday they were home to PNE with both teams starting the day on 41 points, it finished goalless.

A remarkable game back in 2018 between us and them finished 5-5:

Harry Cornick pre-match:

They have lost two in the last twelve games and in their last six games they have won two, lost two and drawn two, while we have won three and drawn three.

On September 18th, 1973 we beat them 3-1 at Ashton Gate. We went ahead 2-1 in a wet and windswept second half when City's goalkeeper, Ray Cashley, scored with a freak clearance from 98 yards!

Danny Coles and Liam Walsh played for both clubs.

On 29 June 2010, Nigel Pearson was appointed Hull City manager. Here he is, having just achieved a two year anniversary in charge of BCFC, ahead of this encounter:

Well known fans include John Prescott, who served as the Deputy Prime Minister under Tony Blair as part of the Labour government from 1997 to 2007. Sinitta, the American-born singer grew up in England, where she became a die-hard fan of the Tigers.

They have recently announced plans for a £25m sporting village https://www.hulldailymail.co.uk/sport/football/football-news/hull-city-unveils-plans-25m-8121075

I am in for tomorrow.

I'm usually exceedingly disappointed when I go to Ashton Gate. The team is somehow always misfiring and the referee is always, always an abslolute AUNT. But. I'm taking a young adult from South Africa who has never been to a football match. What could possibly go wrong Anticipation Popcorn GIF

NIce one on the thread (as ever) COYR.

Definitely think there will be some thinking into tomorrow’s line-up with Cornick and Mehmeti being cup-tied Tuesday.

Nige might go:

Cornick / Wells / Mehmeti

Think he’ll play Wells both games? Ultimately we can’t take our eye off tomorrow a bad run of results over next couple of fixtures , Hull, Cardiff , Huddersfield and Blackpool and we’re looking over our shoulders. Would be amazed if Pearson allowed any complacency to kick in but the players are bound to be looking towards Tuesday

From their forum; https://www.not606.com/threads/bristol-city-v-hull-city.405494/page-2

Could Bristol City lay claim to the biggest underachievers in England?
Big city and catchment area. Of course, they share it with Bristol Rovers, but I see Bristol City as the bigger club (although Rovers have a decent loyal following too).
Surely a city and area the size of Bristol should have a decent PL side?

I hate that Windyarse bastard.

Apparently Windass is quoted as saying scoring THAT goal was the worst thing he ever did. Wherever he went people bought him drinks and his drinking became a problem. It cost him two marriages and the relationship with his son was severely strained.

This certainly made me think, hearing the other side.

Liam Rosenior was having a pint and talking tactics with his two head coaches in the Greenhouse on Park Street at about 7:30 tonight.

They must be staying at the Marriott.

Boozing before the game... Must be nervous.

In Greenhouse talking tactics?

Liam Rosenior doesn’t strike me as that sort of guy?

That strikes me as so not what I would expect modern managers and coach's to do. Did they send the team on a site seeing trip of the kings street pubs.

He meant, we going up park street for more beers, or down the waterfront….that kind of tactics!

I did wonder!

In all seriousness I do like LR. He’s a respected coach and decent bloke I think. Some nice words in his press interview for the game too…

Can’t make tomorrow, last time I missed a Hull game because I was away it was the 10 goal thriller.

Thought my phone had broken when I was getting goal notifications what seemed like every 5 minutes.

Let’s hope today is a ten goal thriller too.

And a clean sheet. ?

No members of the team there, just Liam.

I googled their staff trying to figure out who the other two were but can't find them, so I am wondering if it might be friends from his time in Bristol.

He only seemed to have one pint and was gone by 7:45 so as I say, suspect he was in the Marriott and just had a quick outing away from the hotel.

Nothing to do with him then.

Those stupid other people.
